*Watch my latest history documentary here* :- ruclips.net/video/c3Hq6UaFQqk/видео.html Hey guys. Thanks for stopping by and welcome to History Time... If you enjoyed this video then don't forget to like, subscribe and share. More than 50 new videos coming this year.
You didn't mention the Sakas (Indo-scythians) whose descendants the Jats have strong cavalry and martial traditions. Also a footnote about the Scizone poison supposedly used by the Scythian archers is missing. Would dearly love to see a video on Hepthalite invasions.
Any sugestion for Bulgarians ?Most Evedenses says that bulgarians came from Baktria, some says that we are tracians ... Protobulgarians were Sarmatians but .. i dont know ;d if you have some look for us Bulgarians share it :)
History Time Out of curiosity have the African Americans claimed them yet As in "They were Black to" They have claimed just about every civilisation/nationality/nation there was or is. I'm expecting it any time soon if they haven't already 😕 Fabulous video by the way 😊
History Time nice video... You have put your sweat in it! Sarmatians are royal scyntians.... My people came from there... Can you make a video about croatians? I would but i dont how... I will try to do it. We are 5500y old nation!
Peter the Great, as he is known, is an impostor who was sent from England. When he got back in Russia: (i) he did not recognise people well known to the real Peter before he went to Europe (WHY?); (ii) his wife was sent to monastery without ever seen him (WHY?); his sister, Sophia, was incarcerated on his return in Russia (WHY?); (iii) he couldn't remember anything that happened with the real Peter before he went to Europe (WHY?); (iv) he couldn't speak fluently Russian (WHY?). In order to have control on the real history (i.e. to falsify it as needed), the impostor known as Peter the Great, "upon realizing the magnitude of the finds, decreed by pain of death that every discovery should be taken directly to him", which policy towards all historical artefacts, especially the written ones, remained after him even more vigorously by Catherine the Great. Further, don't you see a very, very strange similarity between the "mysterious standing stones, bordered by hundreds of ancient burial mounds" (1:56) and Stonehenge (which, as we are told, is 4,000 y old) ?!?!?
*_Aryan peoples such as the Medes, Persians and Scythians have an exquisite history and culture which is still present within their descendants, Kurds, Iranians, Afghans and so many to this day. What a magnificent people full of potential._*
Herodotus wrote that the Scythians ( or Saka ) were a heterogeneous group , having different customs and languages ( Minns 1971 ) The Scythians were an Iranian or proto- Turkic steppe nomadic group that inhabited the southern steppes of Russia during the ancient period. They were gradually replaced by other nomadic groups. The Byzantines, however, commonly referred to all nomads regardless of location as Scythians, even during the medieval period. Timothy May. “The Training of an Inner Asian Nomad Army in the Pre-Modern Period.” The Journal of Military History, vol. 70, no. 3, 2006, pp. 617-635. Second Theory is True, because Scythians were genetically %0.00 iranian Contemporary descendants of western Scythian groups are found among various groups in the Caucasus and Central Asia, while similarities to eastern Scythian are found to be more widespread, but almost exclusively among Turkic language speaking (formerly) nomadic groups, particularly from the Kipchak branch of Turkic languages (Supplementary Note 1). Unterländer, M., Palstra, F., Lazaridis, I. et al.Ancestry and demography and descendants of Iron Age nomads of the Eurasian Steppe. Nat Commun 8, 14615 (2017). We observed particularly high similarity between the Tagar and Classic Scythians from the North Pontic region. In a comparison of our Tagar series with modern populations in Eurasia, we detected similarity between the Tagar group and some modern Turkic-speaking populations (with the exception of the Indo-Iranian Tajik population) (Fig 7; S2 Table). Among the modern Turkic-speaking groups, populations from the western part of the Eurasian steppe belt, such as Bashkirs from the Volga-Ural region and Siberian Tatars from the West Siberian forest-steppe zone, were more similar to the Tagar group than modern Turkic-speaking populations of the Altay-Sayan mountain system (including the Khakassians from the Minusinsk basin) (Fig 7). Based on our results, we can preliminarily conclude that there was genetic continuity, at least partially, between the Early, the Middle and the Late Tagar populations. We did not find evidence of extensive gene exchange between the Tagar population and any genetically distinct (with respect to the mtDNA pool) human groups. Maternal genetic features of the Iron Age Tagar population from Southern Siberia (1st millennium BC) Pilipenko AS, Trapezov RO, Cherdantsev SV, Babenko VN, Nesterova MS, et al. (2018)Maternal genetic features of the Iron Age Tagar population from Southern Siberia (1st millennium BC). PLOS ONE 13(9): e0204062. Arzhan-2, the archaeological site of world significance, a national treasure of peoples of Tuva and Russia, located in the «Valley of Kings» (Piy-Khemsk District, Tyva Republic), was investigated in 2001-2004 by the Central Asian Archaeological Expedition of the State Hermitage Museum headed by K.V. Chugunov. The sites has been dated to the 7th c. BC and attributed to the Scythian-Siberian cultural community. When exploring the «royal» burial of the early Scythian site of Arzhan-2, the scientists faced the questions of the origin of the buried, periodization and chronology of the monument, its archaeological-cultural attribution, the autochthonous nature of the population that left it, and its relationship with other Eurasian early nomadic cultures. The present study is addressing the most important issue of the appearance of the buried people and characteristics of their anthropological type. The material for the study was comprised of male and female skulls from burial 5 of Arzhan-2 mound. The article describes in detail the process of reconstruction of the physical appearance of the deceased and provides examples of calculating ante mortem parameters based on craniometric measurements. The complex stages of preliminary work related to the restoration of skulls and manufacturing of their exact copies are highlighted. The results of the physical appearance reconstruction are presented in the form of visual museum objects - sculptural portraits. The scientific reconstruction of the ante mortem appearance on skulls of the «king» and «queen» was carried out in the Laboratory of Anthropological Reconstruction of the Institute of Ethnology and Anthropology of the Russian Academy of Sciences by anthropologists Drs E.V. Veselovskaya and R.M. Galeev. In anthropological terms, the buried show a peculiar mosaic of Caucasoid and Mongoloid features. They are characterized by brachycephaly and dome-shaped head, with notably developed rugosity of the supercilium in the man and its absence in the woman. For the man, an average width of the face and a narrow forehead of medium height are noted. The woman has broad face and forehead, the height of the forehead is average. Both portraits are characterized by prominent position of eyeballs and large eyes. Man’s nose is short, prominent, with convex dorsum. Woman’s nose has a wavy dorsum, and is slightly prominent. On the male portrait, the cheekbones are moderate, on the female one - high and prominent. Faces of the «royal» persons are flattened in the upper part, with a certain degree of alveolar prognathism. The lower jaw of the man is medium in size, narrow in the corners. For the woman, some gracility of the lower jaw can be noted. Veselovskaya, E.V. & Galeev, Ravil. (2020). I am on a spiritual journey of sorts and I am truly realizing the value of studying how our ancestors lived. Learning this and meditating on it just fills you with joy and you feel very connected to these people. Thank you for this! 💛🧡
@@kathrinat9824 I don’t know. I look at all ancient people as my ancestors, just like us, on a journey of their own but in the same boat that is humanity.
6:20 Scythians are direct descendants of earlier steppe cultures such as yamnaya and sintashta. They spoke an indo-european language and were the same race as their predecessors
Scythians were named after their battle scythes. Science tell us they were protoslavs but there is nation that still call themselvs after this weapon or work tool. They are Serbs in Europe. Their language is Srpski - which means - from scythe. They have the most old sanscrit words.
Borislav Mitev SerBs aka SrBi is original name Serbs called them selves. Ilirians were known for their military SERVICE, thats why latin language have 'service', its from Serbs. Byzant or Vizant, B into latin V... Its military service not servitude. Also slave is from word slav - Sloven becouse majority of war prisoners that germanic and romans took for slaves were slavs. You as bulgarian and as a slav think you are a slave? Not so, I supose. We were in constant battle with western wild plungering tribes. They lived from robbery and plungering slavs.
Borislav Mitev Slavs were all tribes that spoke same language, so similar that they can communicate, they also migrate allot. Even today we can understand each other. Isnt that beautifull? Tracians were also SLAVES for romans. They were Slavs too. Aka Scythians. Herodot confirm this saying that scythian language and tracian were more less the same.
I may have fallen for lore, not fact, but I read: the Scythians were never conquered by Darius nor Alexander. The latter signed a treaty with them, and referred to them as The Royal Scythians. they invented the pottery wheel, and the double-bellows that enabled them to be among the first to work iron. Greek historians wrote accounts of the vaping cannabis by throwing hemp seeds on heated rocks, then putting a blanket over themselves and the stones....”they came out howling and laughing....” They did seem highly religious, having the great white stag, who bore the celestial bodies on his antlers, and was the bringer of messages from God.
I got a good laugh from the cannabis story that would have been funny to see. I never heard of the great white stag bearing celestial bodies or messages from God. May I please ask if you can recommend where I can read this. I find it very interesting.
They're must have been so many kinds of animals back then. Must've been so much of an awesome sight that they had to include it in their artwork so much.
It’s a sad part of modern life- we have so much less exposure to big wild animals. An encounter with one of them is the most natural kind of spirituality
Because they were, the Jasy are one and the same as the Iazyg tribe of Alans. They destroyed the 21st Legion Rapax “The Raptor” Marcus Aurelius defeated the Iazyg and posted 8500 Iazyg troops along Hadrian’s Wall in Britain, some of them were settled in Britany as well. They literally went from Scythia to Camelot. The descendants of these Alan’s figured greatly in the 1066 invasion of Britain.
Scythians were definitely not a homogenous group, they were nomadic, nomadic don't judge people by their race, so please don't use your narrow peasant mind to define who they were.they were more like Eurasian mix type, but more of northern and central Asian and eastern central Europe, at the end I would say they were nomadic nation's common ancestry, they were one of the pinnacles of nomadic culture. They were the protector of earth, unlike "civilized" peasants, who can;t live harmony with the nature, always desire more, even it's gonna ruin the soil they are living in, if today's world ruler is one of the descendants of Scythians, world will definitely be a better place, no racism, no extremist religious people. no harm is done to mother earth, no evil nuclear bomb and any other evil creatures gonna pollute our precious land, no border controller, everybody moving freely, no first world, third world.Everybody will be truly created equal, unlike nowadays hypocrisy western culture which is ruling the world and leading earth to a total destruction, The nomadic culture more like a indigenous culture of earth itself, which always emphasized the nature's importance, the destruction of nature would be a severe crime, and will receive serious punishment. Western and their so-called modern culture are not built on the harmony between man and nature, it's about man above nature, and destroy nature for its own benefits, even the consequences of their action gonna be devastating, they will still do it, for the profit and "development". Western culture is more like an alien culture, highly possible inherited from some invasive creature from an already being destroyed planet, so they are by nature aggressive and disrespectful, and always think they are better than the indigenous earthling. The earth we were living in now will eventually be being destroyed by these evil power, and now they were already starting to look for another planet for them to destroy!!
Iazyges and Iassic people have nothing to do with each other. Iassic people arrived in medieval Europe late, are Ossetians remnants of Sarmatian tribes. As name and culture they can be related and even considered separate branches of the same people, but as history they are not very related. You imply a continuity in the plains? That will be a second continuity theory in the area and I am quite sure that their migration is recorded. Also, both of you are wrong, they were not Scythians, but Sarmatians. There is a difference in age, location, tactics, material and language. Also Scythians could mean anything iranians, turks, dacians, slavs, vlahs, depending on the age. Sarmatians were just Iranians. To the core it was a relation as the tartar-mongol relation, but we cannot put equal. So Iassic are not Iazyges, and both were not Scythians as ethnicity.

04:20: Actually, the animal art style is reminiscent of the style represented by the intricate wood carvings found around the doors of Nordic stave churches. Those carvings were made around 900 years ago, and probably constitute the last great flowering of an ancient, pre-Christian, Indo-European artistic tradition. By the way, those who enjoy presentations of this kind should check out the marvelous documentaries made by Asha Logos, as well as the book The Horse, the Wheel and Language by David Anthony.
Asha Logos, what a channel. I feel like he is the only youtube historian left who puts effort into his researches and actually is doing research. I am so fed up with those historians who just make videos about wikipedia articles. This video here is ok and gives a quick overview about the expansion and culture but it misleads in so many other ways. No, they were not a bunch of different races sticking to the same cultural norms. They were one race with a distinct phenotype similar to skandinavians today. They were a bunch of different tribes though who spread all over eurasia so many people today have cultural or genetical heritage from them.
Saka people moved from Altay to all over Eurasia. It was their land they transferred themselves without a war. Burial culture and stone writings prove their Turkish Ancestry.

The first recorded reference to the Amazons was in the 6th book of Homer’s Iliad. described the Amazons as “woman who like to go to war with men" Herodotus, a 5th century BC historian said the Amazons were descendants of shipwrecked Greek woman and Scythian men. Hippocrates, a 5th century BC physician, writes of a Scythian race called Sauromatae. Strabo, a 1st century BC philosopher, places the Amazons at “the foot of the Caucasian mountains”. He also supports the idea that these women would procreate with neighboring villages described them as woman that worked the land, milking cattle and practiced war-like exercises. Recently discovered evidence Archeologist Jeannine Davis-Kimball spent 5 years excavating more than 150 ancient kurgans of the 5th century B.C. located near the Kazakhstan border in Russia 14% of the graves were women buried with bronze daggers, arrowheads, swords and whetstones Chemical analysis of the 68 bronze articles at the burial site revealed that there were a wide variety of different kinds of bronze, originating from very distant areas, as far as Caucasus and Kazakhstan.
Christine VR I think there is a documentary on RUclips exploring this concept, the story is that the Amazons fought on the side of Troy in the Trojan war. Being taken captive by the Greeks and while being taken back to Sparta on a Greek ship, they overpowered the Greek sailors. With no knowledge of sailing they became shipwrecked on the shores of Sarmatia/Scythia and took husbands there. There have been tombs of warriors (women) who were of some sort of priestess or ruling class buried withe their weapons on the step. The documentary traced their expansion into this area via Genetic studies . And found that there are some blond haired , blue eyed, women, an Amazonian trait, in that area to this day! Very interesting

kaindrg 1 second ago Not genetically, the further east in europe you go the high the percentanges of yamnya or corded ware ( european branch of indo- european) this is recent develomple from studyign genetic material from old bones. What they found was europe is a mix of Middle east the farmers, hunter gathers, and asiatic steppe ppl ( who also happen to have soem asiatic siberian dna related to native americans). The vast majority of western europeans have higher middle eastern farmer dna with some steppe asiatic( probably indoeuropean) but the percentages change when u reach russia where the steppe dna is higher. Remeber they are a mix of all three regardless which populaton we are talking about just percentages are different depending on where you go.
ALANS, an ancient Iranian tribe of the northern (Scythian, Saka, Sarmatian, Massagete) group, known to classical writers from the first centuries A.D. (see, e.g., Seneca, Thyestes 630; Annaeus Lucan, Pharsalia 8.223, 10.454; Lucian, Toxaris 51, 54, 55, 60; Ptolemy, Geographia 6.14.3, 9, 11; and other sources below). Their name appears in Greek as Alanoi, in Latin as Alani or Halani. The same tribes, or affiliated ones, are mentioned as the Asaioi (Ptolemy 5.9.16), Rhoxolanoi, Aorsoi, Sirakoi, and Iazyges (Strabo 2.5.7, 7.2.4; 11.2.1, 11.5.8; 7.2.4). In early times the main mass of the Alans was settled north of the Caspian and Black seas. Later they also occupied the Crimea and considerable territory in the northern Caucasus. The history of the Alans can be divided into three periods: (1) from the beginning of the Christian era to the great migration of peoples; (2) from that period to the Mongol invasion; (3) subsequent to the Mongol invasion. During the first period, the Alans appear as a nomadic, warlike, pastoral people who were professional warriors and took service, at various times, with the Romans, Parthians, and Sasanians. Their cavalry was particularly renowned. They participated in Mithridates’ wars with Rome (chronicled by Lucan), as well as in Roman campaigns in Armenia, Media, and Parthia in the 1st and 2nd centuries A.D. (see Josephus, Jewish Wars 7.244-51, Antiquities 18.97; cf. accounts in Moses of Khoren, History of the Armenians [Langlois, Historiens II, pp. 105-06, 125] and the Georgian Chronicle [Kartlis tskhovreba, in M. F. Brosset and D. I. Chubinov, Histoire de la Georgie I, St. Petersburg, 1849]). Ammianus Marcellinus (31.2) describes the Alans’ nomadic economy and warlike customs. The invasion of the Huns split the Alans into two parts, the European and the Caucasian. Some of the European Alans were drawn into the migration of peoples from eastern into western Europe. With the Germanic tribes of Visigoths and Vandals they passed into Gaul and Spain, some even reaching North Africa. The Alans fought on the side of the Romans in the battle of the Catalaunian Fields (A.D. 451), when Aetius defeated Attila, chief of the Huns. In 461 and 464 they made incursions into Italy. After Attila’s death they struggled, together with the Germanic tribes, to free themselves from Hun domination. Large Alan hordes settled along the middle course of the Loire in Gaul under King Sangiban and on the lower Danube with King Candac (the historian Jordanes sprang from the latter group). Another settlement is indicated by the name of the Spanish province Catalonia, which is but a slight deformation of Goth-Alania, “province of the Goths and Alans.” The French proper name “Alain” and English “Alan” are an inheritance from the tribe. The Alans also left an imprint on Celtic folk-poetry, e.g., the cycle of legends concerning King Arthur and his knights of the Round Table (see M. Hesse, “Iranisches Sagengut im Christlichen Epos,” Atlantis 1937, pp. 621-28; J. H. Grisward, “Le motif de l’épée jetée au lac: la mort d’Arthur et la mort de Batradz,” Romania 90, 1969, pp. 289-340). Part of the European Alans remained in the lands bordering the Black Sea, including the Crimea. The Caucasian Alans occupied part of the Caucasian plain and the foothills of the main mountain chain from the headwaters of the Kuban river and its tributary, the Zelenchuk (in the west), to the Daryal gorge (in the east). They became sedentary and took to cattle-breeding and agriculture. Towns developed, elements of state organization appeared, and political and cultural ties were established with Byzantium, Georgia, Abkhazia [see Abḵāz], the Khazars, and Russia. Dynastic marriages were concluded with these countries. From the 5th century on, Christian propaganda was conducted, first by Byzantine, later also by Georgian, missionaries. The Alans adopted Christianity in the 10th century, and an Alan episcopal see was created. In 244/857 Boḡā, a general of the caliph of Baghdad, invaded Transcaucasia and the northern Caucasus, devastating Georgia, Abkhazia, the Alan country, and the Khazar lands. The Alans soon recovered, however, and restored their state. They are often mentioned by medieval writers, both western (Procopius of Caesarea, Menander, Theophanes of Byzantium, Constantine Porphyrogenitus) and Arab and Persian. The latter use the name “Alān” or “Ās”; and in Russian chronicles and Hungarian sources the form “Yas” is found. In the 4th/10th century the Arab historian Masʿūdī indicates that the Alan kingdom stretched from Daghestan to Abkhazia. He describes its prosperity: “The Alan king (can) muster 30,000 horsemen. He is powerful, very strong and influential (among?) the kings. The kingdom consists of an uninterrupted series of settlements; when the cock crows (in one of them), the answer comes from the other parts of the kingdom, because the villages are intermingled and close together” (trans. V. Minorsky, A History of Sharvan and Darband, Cambridge, 1958, pp. 156-60). The anonymous Ḥodūd al-ʿālam (trans. Minorsky, pp. 83, 161, 318, 445) describes Alania as a vast country with 1,000 settlements; the people included both Christians and idol-worshipers, mountaineers and plain-dwellers. The text makes the important statement that, in the north, the Alans bordered on the Hungarians and the Bulgars (the ancestors of the Chuvash). In the east they gave their name to the Daryal gorge, called “Gate of the Alans” (Arabic Bāb al-Lān, Persian Dar-e Alān, hence Daryal). The Mongol invasion of the 7th/13th century and Tamerlane’s wars in the 8th/14th proved fatal to the Alan state. Its organization was destroyed, and the population suffered heavy loss. Ebn al-Aṯīr reports: “The Tatars attacked the Alans; they massacred them, committed many outrages, plundered and seized prisoners, and marched on against the Qipchaqs” (XII, p. 252; for the events of 1221 A.D., see Camb. Hist. Iran V, p. 311). The remnants of the Alans broke up into three groups. One retreated into the foothills and gorges of the central Caucasus and lives there up to the present [see Ossetes], numbering some 400,000. The people of their eastern branch call themselves “Ir”, those of the western branch “Digor.” The name “Alan” survives among them, in the form “Allon”, only in folklore. (Russian “Osetiny” is from Georgian Oseti, “Alania.” The Georgians had long called the Alans Os- or Ovs- and their country Oset-.) A second group of Alans migrated with the Qipchaqs (Comani) into Europe, settling in Hungary. The territory they occupied is to this day called Jászság, “province of the Yas;” and its capital is Jászberény. They preserved their language and ethnic identity until the 15th century, but gradually adopted the Hungarian language and became assimilated. The third group took service under the Mongol khans. According to the Chinese chronicle Yuan-shi, these “Asu” played an important role in further Mongol expansion. The Catholic missionary John de Marignolli, who spent five years in China, states that there were up to 30,000 Ās there (H. Yule, Cathay and the Way Thither III [Hakluyt Society, second ser., no. 37], London, 1914, pp. 180ff.). In the course of time they perished in warfare or were absorbed into the local population. The name “Alan” is derived from Old Iranian *arya-, “Aryan,” and so is cognate with “Īrān” (from the gen. plur. *aryānām). The ancient Alan language may, to some extent, be reconstructed on the basis of modern Ossetic (after excluding the latter’s Turkic and Caucasian additions). The Alans created no writing, and no texts survive in their language except an inscription in Greek letters on a tombstone from the headwaters of the Kuban (Grund. Iran. Phil. I, Anhang, p. 31). A few sentences are recorded by the Byzantine author Tzetzēs (Gerhardt, “Alanen und Osseten,” pp. 37-51). Various personal, ethnic, and place names are also known (see M. Vasmer, Die Iranier in Südrussland, Leipzig, 1923, pp. 25-29). This material at least indicates clearly the Iranian character of the Alan language.

Absolutely lovely! I have had the privilege of seeing some of these artefacts, particularly in the National Museum in Sofia. They are absolutely breathtaking; and I spent so much time admiring them that my guide ran out of time to show me round the whole museum. There is so much for Westerners to learn, particularly from the distant past. A visit, for example, to the Monastery of St Cosmo and St Damian near Plovdiv, in Bulgaria would show just how many civilisations have been and gone before us, leaving behind their art and so much evidence of their talents. Please keep this up. If I were to find one minor fault (as any critic should) it would be that while the narration is clearly in English, the written introduction is in American which, to some of us on the eastern side of the Atlantic, is a bit of a shame. Rant over!
You should pay a visit to Budapest, Hungary, you can visit the Hungarian National Museum, there are many Scythian artefacts. Btw, yet, officially 4 golden stags were found, out of these four two found in Hungary. If anybody has questions about the Scythian-Hun-Hungarian continuity... And yes, Bulgarians are also descendants of the Scythians.
given their geographic / central range that touched upon so many other areas, their mobility, power and wealth, a genetic influence is likely as well. When 23&Me included Mongol and East Asian in my smorgasbord, I was not surprised. Horse cultures traded human as well as animal genetics.
I think Herodotus wrote that Scythian women had to kill 3 enemy before they could marry, so I don't know if the women were just "victims" - they may have chosen their own mates in a more active manner. They scandalized the Greco-Romans, as did the Celts where women owned land, were judges, warriors, and kept their property in a divorce.
Seriously. Its nuts. Hearing Europeans Turks and Iranians trying to claim them instead of looking at the commonalities that exist in all of them. Its kind of sad, really.
He lived in 1800's, his information is correct 1500 years after the "fact". I just don't buy the claim that the Sythian's went to Ireland and asked for land, the irish sent them to empty Caledonia - oh and they did'nt bring ladies with them
Jack Duffy Yes, quite true. The round burial barrow shown in video reminds me of Newgrange. The standing stones are also very similar to those found in the British Isles and Ireland. The Picts were noted warriors that were heavily tattooed. The Celtic people were noted horseman (and still are) and have been more focused on raising sheep and cows, pastoral activities, rather than being a sea faring people. I always thought that as odd for a people living on an island in the ocean. And the places in the world where the most red haired people are found are Ireland, Scotland, England, (the USA from people emigrating from there), and an area north of the Caspian Sea! So I believe there is a connection.
@Seán English The book of invasions is interesting if you have another source to back it up since the archeology is not there. "Today scholars regard the Lebor Gabala Erenn as primarily myth rather than history". That is written on this Wikipedia link you sent me. People lived in Scotland before the Scots came and settled the West coast. I live in north east scotland where the DNA is different to that of the Scots who came from Ireland
There's no chance the Scythians ever made it to Ireland. The similarities you see with the Celts is simply because of the fact the Celts came from the Steppes (as did all Indo-Europeans). The Scythians were merely the people "left" on the Steppes who never migrated. In other words the Celts and Scythians share a common ancestor (as do the Germans and Italics, etc).
Cool video. I just want to point out that the Scythians were an indo-european people and were not related to the turko-mongolic people who invaded later on from the east and north

Imperator Franque And aren't nuclear weapon and all your Abraham religion leading us to the doom, you guys can never live in harmony with others and nature, all you expected are the Armageddon or your Islamic term for apocalypse, you were all waiting for the end of the world, because your alien god was from an other planet, they don't really care about earth, all their care was total destruction of the planet, on the other hand, nomadic culture always think the nature before the people,if the world is leading by nomads, nuclear weapon will never be invented, earth will rarely be polluted.

Some Scythian remains had mtDNA haplogroup U2e, which was once a common European haplogroup. Also found in some of the Tocharian mummies found in China. This is the maternal haplogroup which I carry but I am German on my mother's side.
So that means Khorasan, today's Afghanistan is a go to country to dig deep into the DNA haplogroup of the various iranic and turkic-mongol population to understand and learn more about the Scythians.
@@EresirThe1st nationalism is a modern notion, used by monarchies and oligarchies to tap into natural tribalism, as a means to control and govern large groups if people. @Bilge Kül Kagan nope Turks Seljuks, Ottomans, Uyghurs and Gokturks are Turkic. Sychtians are not. We don't know anything about Huns but Asian Huns probably lived side by side with Turks and Mongols. We don't know if huns were Turkic or not but Sychtians are definitely not Turkic. I am a Turk btw.

6:20 I believe the drawings on the rocks of the chariots where from and were carved by Indo-Aryans, or Indo-Europeans. Kind of where western civilization all started. Something like 70 percent of the worlds population speaks an indo european dialect.
Scythians and sarmatians and Alani were not Turko mongol racially but had similar pastoral nomadic culture they were Northern European racially as you can even see in their art and mummies
I don't know about native mongols, but the turkic peoples in places like khazakstan and tajikistan have partial european ancestry. Presumably from a mixing of the native scythians with the turkic and mongolic peoples who invaded from siberia and the east. There are even small numbers of people in the area that are still mostly indo-european. Like the Yaghnobi, the last remaining descendants of the sogdians.
Sarmatians were often light featured, yes. But the story is more complicated. Many Scythians were dark-haired, with deep-set eyes and classically Iranic noses. All these steppe cultures were a ethnic mix of Iranic, Native European, and Mongolic, and even Ugaritic populations. Its unclear, but they probably had a mix of languages too, but their main (perhaps upper-class) language was Eastern Iranic. Its likely that Sarmatians and Alans, living in Europe, picked up many traits of Neolithic European population, i.e. light hair etc. But in typical steppe-nomad fashion, kept their culture and language.
Ertonts Choros Scythians were very violent people, but we only hear about this from records by their neighbors. Also regarding "race", Scythians were probably a mix of East Iranic, Siberian-Uralic, Eastern European and Mongolic. But if you look at the Yamnaya culture, which were the early Indo-Europeans, and most close geographically to the Iranics and Slavs, they had "dark hair, dark eyes, and moderately light but still dark skin". This genetic component was likely dominant for most of the steppe based on proximity, and Scythians were probably mostly looking like this, with Eastern ones more like Turkics and Western ones with more Northern European looks. Europeans always think that "European DNA" implies looking like modern Europeans; its nothing like that at all.
First of all it's just brilliant someone thinks of the Scythians! The whole world seems to forget about them although they were the strongest territory holders of their time: beating Darius I., Alexander the great... Also their close 'relatives' the Parthians beat the Roman empire. Now... Firstly The artifacts are not animal-monster fights but 'zodiac' illustrations either for status description of/between people or descriptions of ages how they move and take shape in the future - i.e. now. Secondly You will find the same style in Hun and Hungarian artifacts and folklore - so the question is: when did the Scythians disappear is inappropriate. The (not entirely) right question would be: where/who are the Scythians now? Scythians, Huns, Hungarians are all tribe associations/federations. Thanks for creating the video and thanks for reading.
@@FatmaDemir-mq9nc What if they were the same? That whole, and even more, territory was once 'Scythia' with a dynamic (from West to East and from East to West pulsing) and likely a static part (those settled in places or got outside, North and/or South, of the main stream). It is quite complex and the modern 'science' doesn't help to figure it out 'cos it's all about taking everything apart instead of connecting things belong together (in any way).
@sergen uyar Now that would be interesting as every historian source states Scythians being older than Sarmatians... I still stick with that they all were pretty much the same - don't think static; think dynamic.
Among the Hungarians there's a tribe named yascz. Their name is close to osset or ossetians. They are eastern Iranian people. Close relatives of yaghnabis, kalash, and pamiris Cousins of persians and parthians.
Scyhians were originally white. Steppe dna is European. Mongols and Turkic peoples mixed with steppe peoples but they are completely different races. The Scythians too mixed with asians and eventually became non white, but they were descended from the sintashta and corded ware cultures of Europe

The Cathars and the Disciples of Horus practiced astral travel and soul ascension as a science so the pope/Vatican was in trouble with its pale new religion. Origin=Shemsu Hor and Ubaid. St. Patrick's claim to fame was tearing down 300 Irish/Aryan universities for the pope. Can't have the people finding their own light within, can we now?
Dialect homogeneity (and language in general) is still fiercely debated. To my knowledge the only scythian we have is in names-not enough to reconstruct or cross-reference. You could have talked more about Herodotus's /observational/ tidbits: They didn't water down the wine concentrate like the Greeks. They held elaborate burial ceremonies for chiefs, stuffing them with herbs and parading them for days. They also got high in teepee-like tents and cultivated cannabis! Worth mentioning is that the Persians/Medes descended from similar horse-archer peoples.
According to Wikipedia, the Scythians mentioned by Herodotus were linguistically related to Iranian people, and likely descendants of the Proto Indo-European Yamna culture people, but that the Turks, Huns, and Mongols are from separate peoples who adopted a similar culture, which has been labeled as “Scythian culture”.

Celts have been in Scythia , they came from there following a leader or group of leaders. However the rest of the tribes and their kingdoms have stayed there and are still there. The horse breeders and master goldsmiths they were also known as Thracians and the whole theory of coming from Asia should be reversed . Scythian tribes went to Asia. The oldest gold treasure in the world has been found in the Necropolis of Varna on the west seashore of the Black Sea. Tharcian and Scythian are the same people, horse breeders, master goldsmiths, same burying rituals and etc. They have been called many names but they did not call themselves Thracian, Scythian or Barbarian. It is the same with Greeks. They call themselves "eliniko", Armenians call themselves "hayer" and Thracians or Scythians had their own name or names. Celts inhabited Scythia Minor before their long journey to Ireland following Fir Bolg, according to some legends. Bolg is a name of ancient Thracian king of the Odrysian Kingdom. He was son of Koleda, another ancient legendary king who claimed to be son of Sun God. He was celebrated around the time of teh rising newborn Sun, in December. That is Christmas time in our days but they still call that Koleda in that land. There si a song that they still sing around that time " Bolg se rodi Koledo!" , which in translation "Bolg was born of Koleda".
Why is it so hard to believe that two geographically close groups might influence each other, or even intermix from time to time? It's not like Celts were a single unified people, Gaels are a Celtic people, but so are the Celts from Iberia, or from present day Austria, similar culture and language, but may look totally different in physical appearance.
Tomyris (/ˈtoʊmɪrɪs/; from Eastern Iranian: Tahmirih"Brave"),[1] also called Thomyris, Tomris, Tomiride, or Queen Tomiri, was a Massagetean ruler who reigned over the Massagetae, an Iranian people from Scythian pastoral-nomadic confederation of Central Asia east of the Caspian Sea en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomyris
It's a british obsession, to call turkish or mongolian whoever is not british. Scythians, descendents of Sintashta Culture, were even better than the Yamnayas. Nothing is more intensely IE than the scythians.
Calling the Scythians the "forebears of...the huns, the turks, and the mongols" is quite a dubious thing to say. The Scythians were an indo-european people! You should really correct this!
@@HunPride The Sarmatians and Alans were Scythians, and what's attested to of their language is very close to (as in still intelligible to) modern Ossetian (which is undeniably an Iranian IE language)
I agree that Scythians were an Indo-European people who spoke an Iranic language. But to be fair, the similarities between Scythian and Turkic nomadic way of life and warfare is undeniable. Also not only do Turkic people today occupy the exact same geographic area as the Scythians did but they also have large amounts of West Eurasian (European) genes. In some areas Turkic people look like a mix between Northern European and Asian. Also the Huns and other Turkic people enter the scene just as the Scythians ceased to be mentioned in history. So I don't think that our is inconceivable that there was a period when the Turks gradually came in from the east of the Altai and absorbed and assimilated the Scythians and continued from where they dropped off.

Scythian DNA... The Iron Age Scythians are arrayed along a cline from Yamnaya to Ami (a population of East Asian ancestry that experienced no admixture), consistent with having ancestry from populations genetically similar to these two groups. Not a single ancient sample from Central Asian Scythians clustered with Europeans. All ancient samples were in a cline between West-Eurasians and East-Eurasians, with increasing East-Eurasian ancestry at the end of the Scythian period. Scythian samples in Europe were largely European thought.
Scythians were a mixture of mostly steppe people (yamnaya and srubnaya/sinthasha) and north siberan/east asian people. There's a cline from the west (more steppe european) to east (higher degrees of siberian/east asian ancestry, some even half).
That is very likely but the origin of the culture and the empire lay in regions that were at the time ruled by iranian speaking nomads. Both greek and persian sources note the scythians as speaking iranian as their primary language.

prince naseem Safavids being of Iranian origin is well documented. Although Safavids sacrificed thousands of lives in fighting against the Turks but they managed not to lose an inch of their land unlike the incompetent Qajar dynasty who lost the entire Caucuses to the Russians. There are ample evidence and numerous sources available about Safavid’s Iranian origin. You can find them in any library but for simplicity you can start by Wiki: “The Safavid dynasty had its origin in the Safavid order of Sufism, which was established in the city of Ardabil in the Iranian Azerbaijan region. It was an Iranian dynasty of Kurdish origin,[3]”. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safavid_dynasty
And one of them would never die. No matter the number of battles she fought in or the number of injuries inflicted upon her person by her enemies, nothing could stop breath from coursing through her lungs and warm blood from flowing through her still beating heart. She was the worlds first known immortal and she grew to view her unnatural existence as more of a curse than a blessing. In time her name would be passed down the generations to become legend to a world that had long since forgotten her, and her exploits were the tentpoles of modern myth. She has gone by many names in history, but we few enlightened individuals who have learned to read between the margins like to refer to her as Andromache the Scythian, the Eternal Warrior....
Jats aren't their only descendants... Many North Indian groups have some level of Scythian heritage. Jatts are just highly endogenous, making them very steppe shifted.

From Wikipedia Early physical analyses have unanimously concluded that the Scythians, even those in the east (e.g. the Pazyryk region), possessed predominantly "Europid" features, although mixed 'Euro-mongoloid" phenotypes also occur, depending on site and period.[113] In artworks, the Scythians are portrayed exhibiting European traits.[114] In Histories, the 5th-century Greek historian Herodotus describes the Budini of Scythia as red-haired and grey-eyed.[114] In the 5th century BC, Greek physician Hippocrates argued that the Scythians have purron (ruddy) skin.[114][115] In the 3rd century BC, the Greek poet Callimachus described the Arismapes (Arimaspi) of Scythia as fair-haired.[114][116] The 2nd century BC Han Chinese envoy Zhang Qian described the Sai (Saka) as having yellow (probably meaning hazel or green), and blue eyes.[114] In Natural History, the 1st century AD Roman author Pliny the Elder characterises the Seres, sometimes identified as Iranians or Tocharians, as red-haired and blue-eyed.[114][117] In the late 2nd century AD, the Christian theologian Clement of Alexandria says that the Scythians were fair-haired.[114][118] The 2nd century Greek philosopher Polemon includes the Scythians among the northern peoples characterised by red hair and blue-grey eyes.[114] In the late 2nd or early 3rd century AD, the Greek physician Galen declares that Sarmatians, Scythians and other northern peoples have reddish hair.[114][119] The fourth-century Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus wrote that the Alans, a people closely related to the Scythians, were tall, blond and light-eyed.[120] The 4th century bishop of Nyssa Gregory of Nyssa wrote that the Scythians were fair skinned and blond haired.[121] The 5th-century physician Adamantius, who often follow Polemon, describes the Scythians are fair-haired.[114][122] It is possible that the later physical descriptions by Adamantius and Gregory of Scythians refer to East Germanic tribes, as the latter were frequently referred to as "Scythians" in Roman sources at that time.
Clayton Plunk these references are mostly referring to those western Scythians living in or near Europe - “Scythians” - which was just a catch all term for any nomadic people living beyond the frontiers of Greek or Roman civilisation. Western “Scythians” either were, or were heavily mixed with, the indigenous Slavic and Caucasian population. They also had some east Eurasian admixture.
Russian tsar according to him they were white in 17th century. Lol when Russian conquest took all their land. Just like Spaniard and other Europeans did to native population of the north and South America at the time. You have to understand these huns or other steppes people did not come from Mongolia or around China. These were the local people that already pre existed in these lands and are the natives inhabitants. The mongoloid people were excellent hunter and gatherers and during that period they have manage to immigrate /thrive around most part of the world. Except Europe. Arabian peninsula. Africa. Look at them living in frozen tundra, Mountain peak of Himalayas, isolated islands of Pacific, dense forest of South America. I am not even arguing lol. These people adapted in extreme environments/nature’s condition and climate and not to mention in vast steppe. They are crafty mtfkers and populated most of the old world. They also domesticated the horses. Not white people aka ‘scythians’ and also Buddha is not ‘aryan’. Why do people do this. Lmaaooo just stop.
@hollow proto indo/aryans = Aryans/Iranians were brown Arab-Turkic before Alexander. after alexander/seleucid empire. further assimilation in the empire inherited Hellenistic gene/white. thus making them indo-aryan-european. original inhabitant of India is not 'Aryan/iranians' but Mongoloids.
The Scythians, Barbarians and the Saka, are some of the names given to the tribes that travelled west from Assyria via the Caucuses (some went in the other direction and ended up in Russia). They were the first people to occupy what is known today as Western Europe (Sharon Turner, the History of the Anglo Saxons). They were white - that is where the name "Caucasian" originated from. They are also the people who eventually defeated the Roman Empire and sacked Rome. Have a close look at 4:14 and you will see that they were Saxons. By the artwork they left behiind, you can also see that they were clever people. Sharon Turner tracked them back to a particular city in Assyria, although they were not Assyrian.

Agreed. Thanks! loving your stuff too.
He was something of an intellectual, which wasn't exactly common in the Russia of his time (even among the upper class).
I'm glad he saved them too.
IDK about whether given the title or not if you are smart you are smart.

Herodotus wrote that the Scythians ( or Saka ) were a heterogeneous group , having different customs and languages ( Minns 1971 )
The Scythians were an Iranian or proto- Turkic steppe nomadic group that inhabited the southern steppes of Russia during the ancient period. They were gradually replaced by other nomadic groups. The Byzantines, however, commonly referred to all nomads regardless of location as Scythians, even during the medieval period.

Second Theory is True, because Scythians were genetically %0.00 iranian
Contemporary descendants of western Scythian groups are found among various groups in the Caucasus and Central Asia, while similarities to eastern Scythian are found to be more widespread, but almost exclusively among Turkic language speaking (formerly) nomadic groups, particularly from the Kipchak branch of Turkic languages (Supplementary Note 1).

Fun fact: The Danish word "Skytte" (Marksman) is named after the Scythians
tak
Wow, det er jo oplagt, havde aldrig tænkt over det, tak!
That's no surprise; they were lethal archers, after all...
Completely false! Both words in Scythian and Danish come from the Indo-European root *skeud- “to shoot”, see English “shoot”...

According to the Roman emperor Constantine Porphyrogenitus, the Serbs got their name for being always in SERVItude to the Roman Emperors.
Borislav Mitev he wish they were. Serbs fought against romans you dont expect that enemy propaganda tells truth about you dont you?
I find it very interesting.

my Great-grandmother was from the jassic region of Hungary and used to tell my grand mother that they were descended from Scythians

The Scythians women is where we got the Idea of the Amazon Warriors .
The first recorded reference to the Amazons was in the 6th book of Homer’s Iliad.
described the Amazons as “woman who like to go to war with men"
Herodotus, a 5th century BC historian said the Amazons were descendants of shipwrecked Greek woman and Scythian men.
Hippocrates, a 5th century BC physician, writes of a Scythian race called Sauromatae.
Strabo, a 1st century BC philosopher, places the Amazons at “the foot of the Caucasian mountains”.
He also supports the idea that these women would procreate with neighboring villages
described them as woman that worked the land, milking cattle and practiced war-like exercises.
Recently discovered evidence
Archeologist Jeannine Davis-Kimball spent 5 years excavating more than 150 ancient kurgans of the 5th century B.C. located near the Kazakhstan border in Russia
14% of the graves were women buried with bronze daggers, arrowheads, swords and whetstones
Chemical analysis of the 68 bronze articles at the burial site revealed that there were a wide variety of different kinds of bronze, originating from very distant areas, as far as Caucasus and Kazakhstan.
Onus Cronus I would love to see an exploration of this concept alone!!
I agree with Christine. An in depth exploration of that topic would be intriguing

And yes, Bulgarians are also descendants of the Scythians.

lmao everyone is trying to claim the Scythians as their own ancestors.
given their geographic / central range that touched upon so many other areas, their mobility, power and wealth, a genetic influence is likely as well.
Mostly Turkic peoples trying to take credit for Iranian history.

Modern notions of national identity, origin myths and race have tainted our understanding of who we are - and where we come from.
@@EresirThe1st nationalism is a modern notion, used by monarchies and oligarchies to tap into natural tribalism, as a means to control and govern large groups if people. Just like theism, is depends on Otherness, on instilling fear of other, or a false sense of superiority to degrade other. Scythians and sarmatians and Alani were not Turko mongol racially but had similar pastoral nomadic culture they were Northern European racially as you can even see in their art and mummies
History Time Well, is there not any evidence that the mongols and Turks were partly descendant from the Scythian peoples?
Schytians and Uralo-Altaics have same origin.

Bon Chance .. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 .. try next!

Calling the Scythians the "forebears of...the huns, the turks, and the mongols" is quite a dubious thing to say. The Scythians were an indo-european people! You should really correct this!
And the origins of the Hun is unknown, so you can not say that they were not decended from the Sythians.
@@HunPride The Sarmatians and Alans were Scythians, and what's attested to of their language is very close to (as in still intelligible to) modern Ossetian (which is undeniably an Iranian IE language)
He means they were the first to adopt that classical steppe nomad horde life style and style of warfare. Not in language or culture.

We Iranians/Persians and the Scythian are closely related.

From Wikipedia
Early physical analyses have unanimously concluded that the Scythians, even those in the east (e.g. the Pazyryk region), possessed predominantly "Europid" features, although mixed 'Euro-mongoloid" phenotypes also occur, depending on site and period.[113]
In artworks, the Scythians are portrayed exhibiting European traits.[114] In Histories, the 5th-century Greek historian Herodotus describes the Budini of Scythia as red-haired and grey-eyed.[114] In the 5th century BC, Greek physician Hippocrates argued that the Scythians have purron (ruddy) skin.[114][115] In the 3rd century BC, the Greek poet Callimachus described the Arismapes (Arimaspi) of Scythia as fair-haired.[114][116] The 2nd century BC Han Chinese envoy Zhang Qian described the Sai (Saka) as having yellow (probably meaning hazel or green), and blue eyes.[114] In Natural History, the 1st century AD Roman author Pliny the Elder characterises the Seres, sometimes identified as Iranians or Tocharians, as red-haired and blue-eyed.[114][117] In the late 2nd century AD, the Christian theologian Clement of Alexandria says that the Scythians were fair-haired.[114][118] The 2nd century Greek philosopher Polemon includes the Scythians among the northern peoples characterised by red hair and blue-grey eyes.[114] In the late 2nd or early 3rd century AD, the Greek physician Galen declares that Sarmatians, Scythians and other northern peoples have reddish hair.[114][119] The fourth-century Roman historian Ammianus Marcellinus wrote that the Alans, a people closely related to the Scythians, were tall, blond and light-eyed.[120] The 4th century bishop of Nyssa Gregory of Nyssa wrote that the Scythians were fair skinned and blond haired.[121] The 5th-century physician Adamantius, who often follow Polemon, describes the Scythians are fair-haired.[114][122] It is possible that the later physical descriptions by Adamantius and Gregory of Scythians refer to East Germanic tribes, as the latter were frequently referred to as "Scythians" in Roman sources at that time.
We know so much about dinosaurs but don’t know our own people from Bc era. And I think they were mongoloid not white.

Very interesting.. I have always been fascinated with the folks in that region..
Scythian were one of the Aryan Iranian groups like Persian Median and Parthian..
