    I have been a long-haul trucker in both Europe and North America. It was a great experience driving between the different European countries but I feel trucking in North America is much better because here in North America it is set up for trucks. Another problem in Europe is that the hours-of-service are shorter and more complicated to manage. Even worse is that in Europe a number of countries have Sunday/bank holiday driving bans for trucks!! This applies to in the summer during vacation times!!

      European drivers are hounded down to end of the 28 day period. Always driving with fear of those very heavy fines ! One mistake on tachograph entries ...... pay the traffic officers . Ridiculous . And then they complain of driver shortage ........ aren´t there better ways of a just system without screwing the driver ..........anything for a buck.

      @@wheelman1235 I know!! The French, Belgian and Swiss Police are notorious for that!! That is for their outrageous fines. Swiss Police often measure the heighth or length of your vehicle. If you are transiting Switzerland you will be fined. However if you are delivering in Switzerland most likely you will, get a stern warning.

    My Brother is a Trucker. He tells me that the only thing that he sees is the Freeway. If he has to go into Town. It is very hard to get around. He is always on a Time Schedule. Never gets to enjoy a Concert or Car Shows. Only do long Hauls if you want to be single. Also not enough Safe Parking for Big Trucks.

    American Trucks are bigger naturally bigger roads and distances. Great video and explanations finally someone to explain it. :D

    I’ve been a US longhauler for 47 years and it tells you something about our industry when we have these big sleepers and stay in them for weeks at a time and yet there is no bathroom facilities in the truck, no holding tanks, no dump stations……it’s almost like no one gives a crap. (Do ya see what I did there?)

    @TruckTopia in Europe it’s 9 hours in a 13 hour period as a standard but can extend to 15 hours 3 times per week and 10 hours twice a week

    Great video but you are wrong about the speed limit only states that restrict truck speed is California at 55 Indiana at 65 and Michigan at 65 and Oregon and Washington at 65 and all the rest of the states you can drive the regular speed limit be it be 85 80 75 70. Those are the only states that restrict truck speed limits

    The biggest difference between truck drivers in the UK and America is in the UK the vast majority of drivers are employed directly by companies where in the US they tend to be owner operators, there is also a massive difference in training as in the UK you need to do a classroom based course of 35 hours called a certificate of professional competence and then do a practical test of about an hour to prove your ability to operate a truck we also have different categories of truck entitlement so we have a class 3 7.5 ton/ a class 2 a rigid of above 7.5 ton and a class 1 articulated truck licence so it can be difficult and expensive to gain your licence not entirely sure how it works in the US but from what I gather it's not as regulated or as strict in the US

    Maybe I should have gotten into over the road truck driving when I was younger. It probably would have been a rewarding career for me, following in the footsteps of my late dad's brother, who drove over the road for years.

    I went to a trucking school to get my CDL and I couldn’t find a nearby job because a majority of companies want experienced drivers to apply.

    Nothing about the heavy haul biz that what my outfit does stuff like machinery for mills and plants. And heavy construction equipment pans dozers loaders . Tanks and cracking towers for refinery’s . Also wind turbine blades and generator housings for them. Some of our loads-can be over 285 K over dozens of axels ! Requires state permits and routing along with escort cars and at times the police are involved closing overpasses and bridges while we cross alone due to the weights involved big stuff stuff in city’s like giant transformers are only moved at night with streets blocked with crowd control. Some times we have moved super heavy hazardous objects like casks with spent nuclear power plant fuel to disposal . Lot more to it that 80K van and reefer freight .

    I correction the European driving allowed is 9 hours over a 13 hour shift and then 11 hour break

      You need a diesel electric power train in order to cut emissions. Think trains. All battery electric isn’t feasible, because of the weight of the batteries and charge times. Some applications my work but largely I don’t see it happening.

    You are totally skipping Canada where their weight limit is 87,100 lbs, and their driving hours are split into two sections. Canada North where truck drivers can drive fifteen hours in a day, and Canada South where truck drivers can drive thirteen hours all with a eight hour break for the night and no required thirty minute rest period.

    No matter what happens In the world I keep driving a diesel truck electric trucks don't get far enough and are also way too heavy so you can hardly take cargo with you and I didn't trust new technology yet from electric trucks and I will fall asleep Because I miss the engine noise while driving

      As every one should know.We do not have the Electrical Grid set up to totally get rid of Fossil Fuels. Look at the News and Internet. All the Electric cars are catching on Fire. The Semi Battery’s would have to be the size of a Car. I would have to say very Expensive, too.
