  • Another beautiful limited edition Spyderco, this BHQ Exclusive Manix 2 remains one of my favorites. This one has CPM M4 steel, USA construction in Golden, CO, the awesome ball bearing lock, and natural jade-colored G10 scales. We take a look and draw conclusions against my motorcycle knife, the Manix 2 LW in S110V steel.

    I recieved mine 3 weeks ago. Its in my ppcket now. Love m4. My grown son carries a benchmade in m4, and he asks me to sharpen it every 3 to 4 months. He abuses it all day long, cutting and prying, and at the end of the day I see him zip open his mail like it was butter. M4 really holds an edge. This summer I saw him cutting sheetrock with it. I said you want me to sharpen it later? He took the knife and shaved a few hairs off of his arm and said naw it's still sharp. I haven't had to sharpen mine yet either. Defiantly a great knife.

    The features I really like about the Manix 2 light weight are the following
    1 pocket clip
    2 Handel scales with excellent traction
    3 it's super light weight
    The grey maxamet version of the manix 2 checks all these boxes

    I was really shocked to hear your comment about the necessity of a wave feature. I'm exactly the same way at this point. Sometimes I'll carry a non wave knife and accidentally try to wave it out of the pocket. I've tried the zip tie on lockback spydercos but didn't love the deployment. I'll have to try on something a little smoother. Thanks nutn..

    AS ALWAYS GREAT REVIEW! LOVE MY MANIX 2 IN BLACK G10 the most thing I love about their knives is the different blade steels and lock configurations. they keep the collectors happy by introducing the different locks and blade steels into their different models. I loved the colaboration with Southard and blade design on the positron I just wish they'd gotten the handle length right so bigger hands could get a solid 4 finger purchase on the knife. The Manix 2 has the handle gimping and blade all perfect for me though.

    Nutnfancy are you not a big fan of serrated edge?? I wasn't either until the early 90s when I got my first Spyderco that was serrated cuz my buddy bought the last one the fella had that was regular edged. I see that your knives are all standard blades as far as the edge goes. Just wanted to know how you felt about the serrations?

    • @SheepDog229
      @SheepDog229 6 лет назад +1

      He has spoken about that much. He prefers plain edge as it is easier to sharpen. If he did go serrated for some reason, he would go full length serrated, not partial. I agree, I hate partial serrated since it tears and not enough length for either plain or serrated section to cut well. Ymmv.

    • @echosreloadingchamber7306
      @echosreloadingchamber7306 6 лет назад

      SheepDog229 yeah I'm a Fool link serration or nothing those knives that have an inch and a half a serration towards the very back of the knife are absolutely useless the serration is too short to get a full swing on things. However a serrated knife will stay sharper longer than a straight blade. The uneven surfaces cause cut friction I don't know if that's the correct term but when your song threw a rope or something the contact surface area is much greater I guess it's how I should have said it. More surface area of blade easier to cut, but yes I do agree with nutnfancy it is a pain in the butt to sharpen a serrated edge and do it correctly. I go to the mall and I bring my serrated knives to the place where you can buy cooking knives that are a couple hundred dollars a piece the high-end chef knives and those guys know how to sharpen a serrated edge or any Edge for that manner it is so sharp that you can literally shave with it when they're done just a heads up to anybody out there that doesn't know how to sharpen a serrated edge go to the mall to where they sell the high high-end cooking knives and chef knives and have them sharpen your knife for you you will be amazed.

    Hey Nutnfancy, long time sub, since 2010, love your reviews and many them have helped me develop a better understanding of all things EDC, obligation of carry, as well as political alignments. For all this thank you and your family for the sacrifice of your time it has been a blessing to me. I have a couple requests for a KRV a and a GRV. First, for KRV, I'm curious about your thoughts on the Ganzo brand of knives such as the Firebird FB7533. Knowing your views on High Valve Knives (HVK), I would love to see a KRV on some of the more popular models. Secondly, GRV, I would love to see your impressions on the new Hudson H9, I am really impressed with what I have seen so far. Thank you again for all you do and have done to help protect freedom, keep it up some of us out there are listening and agreeing I promise. God bless you and your family.

    Was lucky enough to grab the DLC coated version of this knife from Blade HQ yesterday, I feel like the coating kinda nullifies the single drawback of M4 which would be corrosion resistance. M4 is a great steel that is under-utilized in my opinion. I find that it takes an extremely sharp edge and holds onto that sharpness better than some of the other high carbide steels out there which seem to lose their "ridiculous" sharpness fairly quickly but then hang onto their "working" edge for a long time. M4 + manix 2 is a no-brainer.

    Why so many plus 3" great knives?
    I live in Texas, now NO knife length legal limits. Up from 5"
    BUT travel thru states like Michigan or Illinois or others have legal 3" limits that become a problem!
    I guess most buyers just ignore. No clue on cross risk on CHL license.
    Note to worriers... Being careful seems in order.

    I bought this knife and it holds an edge so well and takes an such a fine edge that I have carried and used it at work every day for two weeks. I know it is a collectible limited run but the M4 steel is amazing. They should make this a production knife! I cut heavy triple walled cardboard and the edge held up perfectly. This knife will NOT be a safe queen for me because of the great quality and toughness of the knife. This is more highly preferred by me then the S110v variant that I also have. My S110v tends to micro chip with the same heavy use where the M4 did not.

    Crucible Particle Metallurgy is not a new concept by any means. I remember reading about CPM steels in military-arms magazines more than 10 years ago. It's kinda paltry for a company like Spyderco to be advertising CPM steel as a feature, when they probably should have started using CPM billet-blanks decades ago.
    I have a Titanium-coated Camillus folder, which uses CPM AUS2 steel, and it only ran me back about $50. That's just more proof that CPM should be the primary method for creating blade-steels. Anything else is just inferior, in terms of repeatability.
