I remember when I was a kid Jamaica was like this too. Not like there was any law prohibiting but people discouraged taking pictures and videos outside of the tourist areas.

I used to watch Indigo Traveler and subscribe to his channel. He used to go into very dangerous countries that no one had visited like Afghanistan and Iraq. His video on Venezuela considering everything going on was also good. Once he ran out of ideas, he started going to more popular counties and trying to find its most dangerous spots. His video on JA was upsetting considering I had just been in Kingston a few weeks before and was so impressed with the changes. One of the things that really irritates me is how unethical they have become for clicks. A trained travel journalist would know that you do not ask leading questions in interviews to try to manipulate people. This recent one that Jamaica walk by did a colab with (don't remember his name) was so manipulative and misleading. If you go into a ghetto with a high crime rate and ask people if it's the most dangerous place in the world, many would say yes. They are unexposed and impressionable. Most have never been out of the country, how could they ever know what crime is like anywhere else, much less the rest of the world? He goads them in to giving the answers that he wants for views and clicks. If you are walking around in these 'lawless' communities and see people going about their daily lives as normal, unconcerned, even that alone should be a sign that you're talking garbage. And JWB helps him with this! SMH. Anyway, we as Jamaicans need to understand that there is a lot of jealousy out there. We put ourselves down because we compare ourselves with the richest countries in the world and therefore think we don't measure up to these high standards. We need to realize that after the COVID lockdown trauma, places like Jamaica have become very desirable and aspirational. Videos about Jamaica are getting tens of millions of clicks. Look at that short about a lady swinging off Spanish town bridge, 218 million views! Many of the people who love to click on these kinds of tear-down videos, can't even afford to visit Jamaica, so they're happy to see someone attack us. The resentment and anger out there will tear us apart if we are not careful. We need to wake up and realize what we're dealing with. A lot of it is just pure envy that we live in 'paradise'. If you don't believe me, read some of the comments under these bad-mind, tear-down videos and you will see it for yourself.

I’m so so glad you did this video because I watch a lot of vlog content between blk and yt content creators when they travel to Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, Middle East and so forth and what I realized is whenever the yt RUclipsr goes to an African and Caribbean country like Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and so forth they ALWAYS want to go to the “local” areas and that part only, they never show you the side that looks good but when you watch blk RUclipsrs they show you the good areas in the country they are in and even if they do show you areas that don’t look as good they put things into perspective and don’t act like that’s how the whole country is. When I see yt RUclipsrs go to Spanish, Asian or European countries they don’t have the same desire to visit the “local” areas and they always show the places that are neat, and since I know this is a tactic that they always use to make blk people look bad I just ignore vlog videos from yt content creators because most times then not they are not genuine. I just thank GOD that we as blk people can finally tell our own story and shape the views that we want the world to see

Hi guys. It is commendable that you decided to take on this issue and I hope that you will call out other vloggers like this. I also hope that other local RUclipsrs will do the same. In fact, it is sad that some of the local vloggers and other locals are responsible for taking these kinds of biased media persons into the communities and have them paint these one-sided pictures of the country. While some of these types of exposures can serve a useful purpose, they need to be more balanced. I agree whole-heartedly with you that some of the residents need to take better care of their surroundings.(in order to improve their condition). This has been always been my mantra. I have also said that some of these persons find themselves in the depressed conditions because they do not take advantage of the range of educational, social and other opportunities which are available to help them to improve their lives. Also, I have said that other persons in these situations are proud, talented, hard-working, independent and do want to make a better life for themselves. I had this same complaint about him when he went to Haiti. I’ve been subscribed to his channel for years. He used to be more showing the side of places you wouldn’t expect based on what you hear from news. But the past few years he’s turned it into poverty and crime porn. Very disappointing.

I used to watch Indigo Traveler and subscribe to his channel. He used to go into very dangerous countries that no one had visited like Afghanistan and Iraq. His video on Venezuela considering everything going on was also good. Once he ran out of ideas, he started going to more popular counties and trying to find its most dangerous spots. His video on JA was upsetting considering I had just been in Kingston a few weeks before and was so impressed with the changes. One of the things that really irritates me is how unethical they have become for clicks. A trained travel journalist would know that you do not ask leading questions in interviews to try to manipulate people. This recent one that Jamaica walk by did a colab with (don't remember his name) was so manipulative and misleading. If you go into a ghetto with a high crime rate and ask people if it's the most dangerous place in the world, many would say yes. They are unexposed and impressionable. Most have never been out of the country, how could they ever know what crime is like anywhere else, much less the rest of the world? He goads them in to giving the answers that he wants for views and clicks. If you are walking around in these 'lawless' communities and see people going about their daily lives as normal, unconcerned, even that alone should be a sign that you're talking garbage. And JWB helps him with this! SMH. Anyway, we as Jamaicans need to understand that there is a lot of jealousy out there. We put ourselves down because we compare ourselves with the richest countries in the world and therefore think we don't measure up to these high standards. We need to realize that after the COVID lockdown trauma, places like Jamaica have become very desirable and aspirational. Videos about Jamaica are getting tens of millions of clicks. Look at that short about a lady swinging off Spanish town bridge, 218 million views! Many of the people who love to click on these kinds of tear-down videos, can't even afford to visit Jamaica, so they're happy to see someone attack us. The resentment and anger out there will tear us apart if we are not careful. We need to wake up and realize what we're dealing with. A lot of it is just pure envy that we live in 'paradise'. If you don't believe me, read some of the comments under these bad-mind, tear-down videos and you will see it for yourself.

I’m so so glad you did this video because I watch a lot of vlog content between blk and yt content creators when they travel to Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, Middle East and so forth and what I realized is whenever the yt RUclipsr goes to an African and Caribbean country like Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and so forth they ALWAYS want to go to the “local” areas and that part only, they never show you the side that looks good but when you watch blk RUclipsrs they show you the good areas in the country they are in and even if they do show you areas that don’t look as good they put things into perspective and don’t act like that’s how the whole country is. When I see yt RUclipsrs go to Spanish, Asian or European countries they don’t have the same desire to visit the “local” areas and they always show the places that are neat, and since I know this is a tactic that they always use to make blk people look bad I just ignore vlog videos from yt content creators because most times then not they are not genuine. Hi guys. It is commendable that you decided to take on this issue and I hope that you will call out other vloggers like this. I also hope that other local RUclipsrs will do the same. In fact, it is sad that some of the local vloggers and other locals are responsible for taking these kinds of biased media persons into the communities and have them paint these one-sided pictures of the country. While some of these types of exposures can serve a useful purpose, they need to be more balanced. I agree whole-heartedly with you that some of the residents need to take better care of their surroundings.(in order to improve their condition). This has been always been my mantra. I have also said that some of these persons find themselves in the depressed conditions because they do not take advantage of the range of educational, social and other opportunities which are available to help them to improve their lives. My husband and I were watching a food video and we notice the white influencer putting his entire head over the pot of food, talking and spitting. They might think it’s OK but we weren’t brought up like that. Why is it white influencers, whether it’s food eating or travel they always have to feed off of Black people. I asked my husband why they don’t showcase their own culture and food.
