This was very informative. As someone who is new to clay, I've lost a couple of pieces in the bisque firing, both of which were on the bottom shelf. I've been pondering what I might have done wrong. From this point forward, my larger thicker pieces are going on the middle shelf. Also, I wondered about doing a small load. The information on putting items toward the center, or on the center shelf, and leaving the top and bottom shelf empty is exactly what I needed to know. Thanks for the info.
I am wondering if placing a large piece, for exemple a large bowl, especially a large plate or platter across the 1/4 inch gap between the two half-shelves might have a negative effect on the piece... I imagine this would not be recommended even though the two half-shelves are perfectly the same height and even... Would it be better to use a full shelf or a plate support to bear the piece across the gap ? Thanks for your advice!
Hi Can I run the kiln with only two sections? took off the top sectiont and kept getting a fail message. I swapped out the thermocouples so it is not that - when I hooked up the thermocouple to the section I was planning not to connect the fail message went away.. so I am presuming I cannot just disconnect and remove one entire section? Does this makes sense or is there a way to remove one ring section completely
Hi there, thanks for the question. No, the kiln needs to be fired as one. The elements are balanced with the three sections. If you remove a section, it will not fire properly. Feel free to give our tech support a call at (503) 774-6000 if you need further assistance. Have a great day!
