Faith without works is Dead | Pastor Phil | @JesusLives

Dear Brothers and Sisters,
In James 2:26 it says, “𝐅𝐨𝐫 𝐚𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐨𝐝𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝, 𝐬𝐨 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬 𝐢𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐚𝐥𝐬𝐨”
You most likely sit in a chair every day. You have a strong belief, whether conscious or unconscious, that the chair will support you when you sit. You would not sit if you did not have complete faith and trust in the chair.
Similarly, when someone puts their faith in Jesus, they are not acting mindlessly. When someone believes in Jesus, they fully believe He is who He says He is and that He conquered the grave.
Faith without works is dead because it reveals something deep within us, and oftentimes it will show a heart that has not been transformed by the Holy Spirit.
When we have been regenerated by the Holy Spirit, our lives will reflect that and people will be able to see the new you, and not someone that just professes to be a Christian.
Jesus himself put it this way in Matthew 7:16-23:
“𝐁𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐃𝐨 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐩𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐧 𝐛𝐮𝐬𝐡𝐞𝐬, 𝐨𝐫 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐬 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐥𝐞𝐬? 𝐉𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝐬𝐨, 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭. 𝐀 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐛𝐚𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭, 𝐧𝐨𝐫 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐚 𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭. 𝐄𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐛𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐠𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐛𝐞 𝐜𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐞. 𝐒𝐨 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐢𝐫 𝐟𝐫𝐮𝐢𝐭𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦. 𝐍𝐨𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐬𝐚𝐲𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞, ‘𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝,’ 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐝𝐨𝐦 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧, 𝐛𝐮𝐭 𝐨𝐧𝐥𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐲 𝐅𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧. 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐬𝐚𝐲 𝐭𝐨 𝐦𝐞 𝐨𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐝𝐚𝐲, ‘𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐋𝐨𝐫𝐝, 𝐝𝐢𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐲 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞? 𝐃𝐢𝐝 𝐰𝐞 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐝𝐫𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐞? The disciples of Christ and the early followers of Jesus did not step out in faith mindlessly or blindly. They believed in Jesus until they died.
Simply saying we believe in Jesus does not save us, nor does a religious service. What saves us is the Holy Spirit changing us, molding us, and making us more like the father. 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐩 𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐩 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬.

James was written during Christ's earthly ministry. James states we are saved by faith that God is One (the Jewish shema) , and obedience to the law of Moses. When Christ died and rose again, Peter, John and Paul all emphatically made it clear that we are saved by faith in the shed blood of Christ for the remission of sins. There's no need to try to reconcile letters written to two different audiences. A "faith that works" is bad hermeneutics. James clearly wrote Abraham was justified by "faith AND works." But when James wrote his letter, Christ had not died.
