    Lyrics:
In Braintree, Massachusetts, came the birth of John Quincy
on the 11th of July to the Adams family
He traveled with his father to Europe, and studied well
John returned in ‘85, then entered Harvard and excelled
He studied law afterwards, found a Boston place to rent
where he practiced law in ‘90, while dad was Vice President
In ‘95, John met Louisa, who he’d soon adore
They wed in ‘97 while he was an ambassador
‘tween ‘01 and ‘11, they had four children, then done
George, John, Charles and poor Louisa, who sadly died at one
John was Minister to the Netherlands, US Senator, it’s true
He was Minister to Russia and Secretary of State, too
    Chorus
From ‘24 to ‘28, John Quincy Adams served
Politics made his achievements less than he deserved
John helped Monroe with his Doctrine and bring Florida to the USA
He ran for prez against Jackson, was chosen, to Jackson’s dismay
As the 6th president, Adams struggled to achieve his plans
Those in Congress who supported Jackson bitterly tied his hands
He was able to establish and brought to fruition
the large museum group, Smithsonian Institution
In 1830, John grew bored so for US rep, he ran
He served nine terms, till ‘48, then the end came to his plan
John collapsed from a stroke while speaking on the Congressional floor
Two days later, February 23rd, He would speak nevermore
John’s legacy’s his passion and skill to negotiate
His able hand throughout government of the United States

Even though Monroe was unopposed in 1820, an elector named Plumer (I don't know his first name) voted for this guy instead. Legend has it that Plumer just wanted George Washington to remain the only one elected unanimously. However, a bio of Plumer written by his own son has turned up, and it shows that he genuinely didn't like Monroe.

Why Did John Quincy Adams Collapse From A Stroke & His Daughter Louisa Died At 1

    • @Cenapsis
      @Cenapsis  Год назад +4

Hi Larry! Two years before his death, Adams had suffered a stroke and recovered. On the day of his collapse, he was visibly upset over some legislation, rising answer a question, he suffered a fatal hemorrhagic stroke, likely from an emotion-driven burst of high blood pressure. I couldn’t find a published cause of death for little Louisa, but at the time, medical treatment was comparatively poor and many children died from various infections and diseases.

Hi Grace! Thanks for your comment! Actually, the town of Quincy, Massachusetts was originally named after John Quincy Adams’ great grandfather on his mother’s side, Colonel John Quincy! However, in 1888, Quincy became a city, and was called ‘the City of Presidents’.
