(First date, 2066. Candlelit restaurant. Two people are sitting at a table. Inside an empty wine bottle is a single rose. The conversation is stilted, and both people are silently having doubts about coming, but still optimistic about what lies ahead. Both read from a restaurant menu.)
Person 1 (mumbling): Menu shot, menu shot…
Person 2: Wait, what did you say? I didn’t hear you!
Person 1: Oh, nothing. It was dumb.
Person 2: Say it again! It sounded like you said, “menu shot, menu shot…”
Both people, together (coming to a moment of realization): “Right now you’re looking at the menu shot!”
Person 1: WOAH.
Person 2: No way! Are you kidding me?
Person 1: Miles in Transit?
Person 2: Miles in Transit! … Wow, you’ve seen the diner video too?
Person 1: That’s a really early piece of his filmography; I didn’t know anyone else in our generation had gone back that far! My mind is blown right now.
Person 2: Of course!! There’s a whole cinematic universe of cult classics like that one buried on his channel. Miles has turned his back on filming since he became the president of the MBTA…
Person 1 (interrupting): He completely revolutionized the WHOLE system!!
Person 2: … But his channel is really a hidden gem!
Person 1: That’s what I thought too! Ever since he had that idea to restore PCCs to ALL the branches of the Green Line, I knew I had to dig into his past and see what other genius ideas were lurking in the shadows.
Person 2: For me, that moment was when he converted all the MBTA’s bus routes to trolleybuses. The man is a LEGEND! And based on the diner video, he’s been a legend for over forty years!!
Person 1 (still stunned): WOW. I still can’t believe you’ve also seen the diner video.
(They meaningfully look into each other’s eyes and kiss tenderly. It’s love.)
Perfect. No notes. Cast it and shoot it immediately.
*This* close to a Flange Affinity account
honestly, was out to dinner with my wife, they put down the menus and I started singing the menu shot song. She looked at me like I suddenly grew another nose
It's the early days of the MCU (Miles Cinematic Universe).
jordycakes is gonna be mad lol
This. This is exactly what I come here for - to watch nerds nerd out about (often inadequate) public transportation nerdily punctuated by acapella renditions and parodies of songs good and bad. I have never once thought about diners in any detail beyond the fact that they exist. I will now watch parts of this video every day until the day I die. I only wish I discovered it sooner. Brilliant.
Awww, thank you so so much!!
Now anytime I look over a menu all I hear in my head is "menu shot, menu shot, right now you're looking at the menu shot"
Mwahaha!
This should air on national television. At least local Philadelphia TV!
This is the best documentary I've ever seen
Agreed
It's fun to watch people have fun.
I was not expecting Miles to come in that hard in the last song at the very end of the video. It was a bop none the less. I'm just amazed that I watched a 2hr video of a guy eating french toast. As always, great work Miles. -A fellow foamer
Aww, thanks for watching the whole thing, I'm glad you enjoyed it!! That last song was a parody of a really bad Tom's Diner cover that was making the rounds on Tiktok at the time, which is why I sang it like that!
Watching this as an european is a bit surreal, but absolutely fascinating. Truly a herculean labor
Welcome to America, this is what we can truly accomplish when we really set our minds to finding the best damn french toast in town
@@Madwonk More like what an effort public transport is and how run down everything looks
@@Sonyboj transit in Philly is easier than almost anywhere
rewatching again and truly RIP to the diners of the philly diner magnates.... melrose kinda fell off but the idea of it being torn down is just too much pain to bear
double commenting because I can't resist but an anecdote to the failure of the intersection outside of the penrose, I live like sub 10 minute walk from it in the same direction as the bus dropped you off from and me and my sister would always complain when our parents made us walk there. hell intersection. they were GONNA put a roundabout there this year apparently and simply have not
Seems like it is still there in 2024...
36:14 LOL what a vibe 🤣
As an anime connoisseur, I can confirm this video is a top ten anime reveal. But seriously, this is incredible. That Biz Markie finale was art. I really appreciate the musical bits and exquisite diner history. Your pronunciation of Bayonne is correct! My uncle's a Jersey City native and has family in Bayonne so when I lived in JC, I took many trips there. As for how it got that name, there are two conflicting stories. One story says Bayonne got its name from the city of Bayonne in France because Huguenots settled there before New Amsterdam was founded. However, a 1904 history book about Bayonne says the area's developers named it Bayonne because it is on the shores of two bays, Newark and New York, hence Bay-on, or "on the Bays”.
"The real French toast was the friends we made along the way" So true. I'm about to blow your mind with French toast lore: IT'S NOT FRENCH! French toast's origins trace back all the way to ancient Rome! A Roman cookbook from as far back as the 5th century CE, describes a recipe for bread soaked in milk and beaten eggs then fried and served with honey and calls it aliter dulcia or "another sweet dish". So why is it called French toast? Innkeeper Joseph French from Albany introduced the dish to America in 1724. He intended to name his creation “French's Toast” but inadvertently left out the apostrophe and S. By 1871, the term "French toast" appeared in the "Encyclopedia of American Food and Drink" in North America
I adore the commitment all your friends have to join you on these diner excursions! Such a fun challenge
the only thing that brings me peace in this day and age is watching these two upstanding youths visit diners in rapid succession.
Amen! 👊😊👊
I FINALLY Had a chance to watch this. It was super long so I was waiting until I had enough time to kill so I could devote 100% of my attention to it and you guys, as usual, did not disappoint. I laughed my ass off as usual and as someone from the area, just loved it. The song at the end was such a nice touch. I actually really enjoyed this video/movie. Thank you for producing great content that makes everyone's day better. I rate this video tennnnnn out of tennnnnn.
Much appreciated, thank you so much for sitting through the odyssey!
Another benefit of knowing your bus routes -- if you leave your wallet on one, you know where to run to catch up with it
I absolutely love history and I am very impressed with the knowledge Jackson showed in this series. Enjoyed every minute. As for the music, you guys are nailing it. 10/10 video.
Much appreciated, thank you - Jackson is a genius!
Dude this is a f***ing movie.
Mwahaha
Quirky idea, but I loved it! It very well past much of a sick day, and now the jingles are stuck in my head! In all seriousness though it's great to see this test of public transit in the US. Love your channel and keep up the great work Miles!
Thank you so much!!
Diners are my favorite. I wonder if any of them serve good liver and onions. I'm so exited to be moving to PHL in a few years. I grew up on the NEC so I've been in transit withdrawals in Texas. Also, sweet harmonies!
Thank you!
This channel will be huge. Mark my words.
Thank you!!
Fox Chase was named for a local inn that was built in 1705 and the area was a destination for wealthy colonists who enjoyed the recreational pastimes of their homeland such as fox hunting, so yes, it was a good area to chase foxes! Ryers station is named after the nearby Ryerss Mansion at Burholme Park (Burholme in turn means "house in a woodland setting") which was built in 1859 by merchant Joseph Waln Ryerss on 85 acres of property. Ryerss was once president of the Tioga Railroad (which was taken over by the Erie Railroad in 1882), and he collected a ton of Asian art as the result of continuing his family business of trading with Japan and China. Joseph passed in 1868, and it was passed down to his son, Robert W. Ryerss.
When Ryerss passed in 1895, he left everything to his wife who was his housekeeper on the condition that upon her death the best part of his land and much of his estate would be left to the “People of Philadelphia, forever” as a museum and public lending library. She turned it over to the city in 1910.
OMG. I watched the entire video. If there hadn't been so many Miles & Jackson duets and jingles, I don't think I could've finished it. Also, I'll probably never look at another menu without singing the "Menu Shot" jingle in my head every dang time. No need to thank me because you already did at the end-ish. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for watching the whole thing! A rare achievement!

truly amazing, those 2 hours went by so quickly
it's very cool that you took the time to show all those different routes and managed to include so much information while keeping it snappy and entertaining
i hope you guys get to do more of these big projects in the future!! (if you feel like it, of course)
I really appreciate it, thank you! And stay tuned for more to come 👀
That. Was. Amazing.
Don’t know how or why I started watching. But. Could. Not. Stop.
Thanks!
Hope you all are well and happy 😊
Thank you so much!!
You both did a great job of traveling to every diner!!
Your reviews of each diner was priceless!!
Thank you!

No, Thank You!!
Ok, you’re certainly welcome!!
loved the acapella diversions!
Thank you!
This is fantastic. You guys have the best energy!
Thank you so much!!
This was awesome! Keep up the good work! I enjoyed this so much!
Thank you so much!!
Very nice. I have watched it multiple times. It's fascinating.
Thank you!
I've been binge watching the diner videos, but had to pause at this one. I can't take anymore French toast for a while.😂
Very happy to have found this channel. Amazing video. Never even been to Philly
Thank you so much!!
absolutely wonderful video! loved the end song too!
Thank you so much!
Ok after having watched some of your sharply edited and entertaining vids, its great to see how old school you guys are, especially breaking into songs as I have been doing for years in my vids...
Thank you so much!!
@@MilesinTransit Welcome!
Memories.. I was first stationed in Philadelphia in 1983, Septa ran just as bad then as it does now, I still have the scar from trying to go up to the streetcars at city hall, coming down after finding the entrance marked to be open, but barricaded closed. I turned only my head around to look at the sign while walking. Sure, enough supposed to be open, and my forehead and one of those huge rivets became suddenly introduced to each other, I was just under drinking age then, and was jeered at work as if I had been drunk.
I keep going back to this diner video not just because how well it was done, but because of the awesome “sting transition” music you put in!
Thank you!
Thank you for the menu shots.
Love the oasis reference
You guys must get this all the time I would bet on it, but major Sheldon Cooper vibes from everyone.
Love all the acapella deviations! So good
I get your disgust on car culture
Your trip to the last two dinners the greatest accidental pitch for the Roosevelt Blvd Subway I've ever seen 😂
Watched this on a Sunday morning as I woke up early and now I want French Toast.
Oh my god that video was incredible
Thank you so much!
Awesome dinerness entertainment. Loved your friends interaction. Thanks for making this. I did notice no diners made in Worcester Massachusetts on this video. Also noticed the next diner video focused more on the history of the diners and generally seemed much more professional. Loved both videos though.
Thanks! Yeah, Worcester diners didn't really make their way out of New England much.
18:53 I heartily endorse this use of a Simpsons joke or quote.
I rode the 47 trolley back in the 70s . I lived in Olney and took it to fern rock movie theater.
Brilliant video!!
Thank you!!
when i go to philly ill check some of these out, thanks
Another great video! Love the side eye from the guy @ 40:50!
this is one of the video ever, i love
Gosh, you kept getting rained on! LOL
Regarding Roosevelt Boulevard.... you're right.
I forget which insurance company it was, but they rated it the most dangerous road in the United States... and it is host to the top 2 of the top 10 most dangerous intersections in the United States: Roosevelt & Grant, and less than a mile further, Roosevelt & Red Lion. Though I see you guys made it across all 12 lanes on one light cycle at one point.... that can only be done running! Bahahahaha!!!
Yeah. Worst. Road. Ever.
Needs a light rail line down the median. Of course, the Boulevard Subway talk is firing up again....
Irony.... I got Wawa ads through this video!
RE: the 66 trackless trolley
The express wires used to run all the way to Rhawn Street, although they did merge into the local wires on either side of Cottman Ave, as that was an all-stops stop. Back up until sometime in the 80's or 90's, there was a trip or two that expressed to Rhawn Street, but all the others only expressed to Cottman.
As it is, when service was more frequent in the past.... an overtake was possible. But now, it's more a load balancing method as opposed to being an expediter.
The 47M.... oh boy. SEPTA was kind of forced into creating that route. When they moved the northbound 47 to 7th Street, it was partly to streamline the distance between north-south bus routes east of City Hall, and partly to end the delays to the line due to going through the Italian Market. But thanks to protests... along came 47M (which originally did not run on Mondays... the day the Market was closed).
Coming soon to the asphalt ocean intersection of 20th and Penrose by the Penrose Diner: it's all getting ripped up and turned into a traffic circle, rotary, roundabout, whichever one sounds best. Construction to be completed in a couple years.
I've lived here all my life and I've only been to 8 of the diners on the list. I'm going to have to fix that...
BEST! OUTRO! EVER!!!
Thanks so much for the extra info! 66 express to Rhawn would be insanely cool...also I'm curious how a redesign will affect that Penrose intersection! It's SO horrible right now.
@@MilesinTransit I guess we'll see in a couple years. Right now, I can't stand driving through that intersection!
This was a cinematic tour-de-force. I thoroughly enjoyed it from beginning to end. As someone who once called Southeastern PA home, I was hoping you'd sing the Melrose diner song and I was singing along. Also 100%for the guy who got the scrapple. My future wife and I used to love using transit to visit Philly. Our favorite was we would ride in from Doylestown, stop at Reading terminal market, then push on to our favorite Chinese "Beijing at Penn" and do it all on transit. Only bad thing is it reminds me of the bad old days in 2020 with the masks and all, but still a wonderful video
Thank you so much!!
Didn't see how long the video was until I was an hour into it 😅. Needless to say but im hooked!
Also, kinda off topic and slightly depressing but I miss hanging out with friends and bantering/goofing around... Anyway great video
Thanks!
Hi Miles,
That was a great video!!! I liked how you reviewed all the diners, that you went too. Also, the singing was very good, and I was singing along with you guys too. You guys have great taste in music. I have to agree with Jackson , when he said Taylor Swift is awesome because she is. Anyway, have a great rest of your day, and I can’t wait for the next video.
Thanks so much!
@@MilesinTransit Your welcome.
Wow, those a Cappella songs are fantastic!
Thanks!
i got the oasis reference!! also i have the same brian wilson shirt that jackson was wearing at the ace diner
That ending was wholesome!
Honestly Miles, this is a gem! Please keep doing wacky stuff!
You will enjoy the current Big Project I'm working on!
That was a wild ride
Watching it again. It's fun.
Me trying to get a good nights rest
My brain: Menu Shot, Menu Shot, Right now your lookin' at the menu shot
also incredible video miles i watched the whole thing
YESSSS thank you!!!
This was fantastic.
Thank you!
@@MilesinTransit you’re welcome! I’ve subbed and have been binging the content, part of the appeal is that it’s so refreshing to see people who are having so much fun being themselves and enjoying what they are doing, it really comes across in the videos from yourself but also the rotating cast of your friends too - a great group! Look forward to future videos
@@tomkmb4120 Aww, that really means a lot! Thank you so much.
Great Video! I’ve been to a few diners before, but the most recent diner I went to was the Moonlight Diner & Bar, located near Tower Rd & E 62nd Ave which is near the Denver Airport.
Ooh, that's awesome! Last time I was in Denver I went to the Chuck Wagon Diner, which was fantastic.
1:20:37 - The *Continental* - I know of that one. It *looks like* a diner, but for more than 3 decades, it has served gourmet food, not 'diner food'.
Toast and French toast with homemade bread! Ace Diner looks epic. (12:57)
Well worth the schlep!
I didn’t realize the Miles from Miles in Transit was based in Philly! Will have to keep my eyes out for rogue transit nerds geeking out over SEPTA!
we are indeed rogues
And pretty good musicians.
You need to go to Franks Diner in Kenosha, WI. You can take Metra to Kenosha from Chicago and walk to the diner. Then you can take the Kenosha streetcar after you eat. Sure, it only goes in a loop, but it’s something. Then Metra back to Chicago.
Oh wow, the inside of that place looks beautiful!! And of course the Kenosha Streetcar is a must-ride.
Well I know where i'm going next time i'm in Kenosha.
Best video on youtube
Thank you so much!
Doesn't like sweets. Proceeds to eat French Toast by the loaf again and again.
This is great
imagine doing this but for all 600 diners in New Jersey and NJTransit, would probably be a 10 hour video, even in Philly the concept and vid is super fun though
Wow. A 10 hr diner video.
this channel needs more people talking over each other
I'll write a script for each video to avoid this issue
@@MilesinTransit thx miles 👍
I have never seen so much French Toast!!!
whaaaa i didn't know u did philadelphia too, time to get my snacks
HAVE FUN!!!
37:07 that window in the back of the bus makes me think of the old Muni trolley buses that used to be around in SF until a few years ago. Miss the back windows, the ones they replaced them with don't have a back window.
Did MUNI get rid of the trolley buses? I swear I saw a couple still in operation last time I was in the city about a year ago.
@@yakovgolyadkin no just the older ones with brown interiors and a back window. They replaced those all with newer ones a few years ago.
1:40:13 - The 'small street' in the back of homes is called an *alley* .
The intros are very nice also and i almost thought you guys sang "septa" similar to the sega chime. Moar animals=moar likes
5:09 this is the same but with Junior's in Brooklyn ny. Basically a diner
My deepest apologies if a pinball foamer has beat me to the punch almost 2 years after the posting of this video, but that Iron Maiden pinball machine (in Deke's, during the Wayne Junction Diner segment) isn't old, it's from only 2018!
Ooh, no one has said that! Very good to know, thank you for the correction!
Did i just watch two straight hours of guys going to diners in a state i rarely even find myself in? absolutely.
Heck yeah, thank you!
39:17 - Two through streets paralel to I-95/Amtrak. *T*orresdale has trolley *t*racks -- Frankford Ave does not have tracks.
I really want French toast now.
The Melrose Diner says it’s permanently closed. Aw man.
Oh wow, it does! I can't tell what the situation is with that - last I heard they're keeping the Broad Street Diner open until they can renovate the Melrose, then they're closing the Broad Street and keeping the Melrose? At this point I don't trust anything anyone says about it...it's really a shame either way.
Yes, Country Club is owned by the same guy. He bought a number of diners around the city some time ago.
this is fucking awesome
Thank you!!
The liberty bell diner is REALLY good.
fun times, gotta watch the rest later -- is that an app you use to make those 4-video song mixes?
Yeah, it's just called Acapella!
having fun, still 6 hours to go, my favorite shirt is definitely the fleetwood mac rumours shirt
The Acapella deviations make the video omg😂
Holy shit I was about to comment this except then I saw my comment from a year ago 😂😭
Also the American diner 2: cousin of small town pharmacy 2?
I need yall to do this on Long Island
That video would be 27 hours long 😭
What a bunch of palukas! 😉
The reason why I hate Roosevelt boulevard is due to effect that they refuse to extend the Broad street Subway like they should have years ago But no they'd like to take you to use a Super stroad
This has so many Bill Wurtz vibes.
I will take that as a HUGE compliment, thank you!
This is giving "the B line exposed" vibes
this video is better than some films that have won the palm dor
Thank you so much!
Oak Lane was iconic in its heyday💔
My dude, I love your stuff. Hit me up if you ever wait to come make some videos in Toronto ♥️👍
Thank you!
I'm from far NE philly, it definitely feels a lot weirder than the rest of the city since its more spread out. i grew up in the neighbrhood where "the shoppes at pennypack" is, it was once old military housing that they now have as like some psuedo HOA thing, it's odd.
You should take the r5 to the Downingtown diner the place where they filmed the blob
Jackson's from Downingtown, he always talks about that diner!
42:57 THE SPIDER-MAN MASK-💀
1:23:45 - Shady Maple, Blue Ball, Lancaster, PA
Next try Olympia house restaurant and pets clown house restaurant and billy doc restaurant. Four seasons. I’m thinking of more.
Note that we were only doing authentic factory-built diners for this video! But I'm sure those restaurants are great, I'll have to check 'em out separately!
