Description: Time stamp:
0:00 an amateur pencil-drawing of Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa"
This is a binaural ASMR, 3-hour, no-talking, free-hand pencil drawing attempt at probably the most famous Japanese painting ever: Katsushika Hokusai's "The Great Wave off Kanagawa," also known as The Great Wave, or simply The Wave.
The early19th century Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai's original is actually a woodblock print (initially painted on paper, then pressed and sort of stamped onto hard wood to be carved) from which copies can be pressed until the wood wears down. It was published sometime between 1829 and 1833 in the late Edo period of Japan; a period of about 200 years (1641-1853), where all of Japan was forcibly closed to contact from the rest of world by its emperor (with a very small exception for highly restricted Chinese, Korean, and Dutch trade in a single port).
It was the first print in Hokusai's series "Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji" (which was sold as a collection). The image depicts an enormous wave threatening three fast fishing boats off the coast in the Sagami Bay (Kanagawa Prefecture) while Mount Fuji rises in the background to the southwest. Sometimes assumed to be a tsunami, the wave is more likely to be a large rogue wave.
It is Hokusai's most famous work and is often considered the most recognizable work of Japanese art in the world.

Try making a functional iphone 6s with 32 gb of storage.

next video: Solving World Hunger with a Pencil and some Paper!
@@brady6379 it is possible actually, if someone is going to slove the world's hunger, they gotta plan it out on paper first lol.
I wish I could spend 3 hours working on something in silence, but I can never clear my mind for that sort of thing. At least I can relax listening to this.
Try 30 seconds first. Then move on the 3 minutes before trying 30 minutes. Then move on to hours once you have those mastered.
Have tried access bars treatment? Helped me to clear my mind - a lot!!

Would love to hear a little bit of commentary over some of this. Glad to have you back!
id really like to do a little history of japan and hokusai's life relative to this picture. glad you're interested brandon

One of my favorite pieces that I wrote a paper about it back in college. The artist apparently adds mount Fuji in majority if not all of his prints, and if you notice the waves sprinkle onto the mountain in the background as to replicate snowfall
i recently watched a documentary about hokusai and the other famous painter from 1800s japan and it's amazing how much thought they put into these. they were absolutely a genius reflection of the best elements of japanese culture
@@LetsFindOut1 what was the name of the documentary?
ruclips.net/video/bbt3FSuPSjo/видео.html
Yes but Mt Fuji represents permanence and groundedness in these images and it is used as a juxtaposition to the fleeting nature of other things, such as the waves in the ocean, the perceived threat of the wave, the fear of the fishermen in the boat, the fishermen themselves, this entire scene, which appears as a big moment captured on paper was a meaningless single moment in time that went as soon as it came. That wave which dominated the scene and stood over Mt Fuji is no longer. Yet Mt Fuji remains. So it is not about the actual Mt Fuji but this and other images in this series and genre are more about reminding us that ‘this too shall pass’ and that every moment, every pleasure or horror, no matter how big it might seem, is fleeting. It’s a beautiful sentiment
It might be that I’m easily impressed but I thought the effect of superimposing the artwork over his drawing at 5:07 was so cool. And I’m not sure why but this video is giving me Bob Ross vibes. Maybe it’s because, like The Joy of Painting, art is being created in a soothing atmosphere.
i respect what bob ross did. im definitely inspired by him
The way he touches the paper… Who knew that could be so wondrous?
Ah! The great wave! Such an incredible piece.
Can’t wait to fall asleep to this. Hope you and the family are doing great. Love the work 👍
doing great. thanks j

@@LetsFindOut1 Your're most welcome!
I love this channel idk how you’re not at 1 mill
Magnificent. The item of inspiration is in and of itself beautiful, to see it purposed in a new different but most enjoyable way is a breathe of fresh air in an often claustrophobic asmr environment. The initial sharpen of the pencil is an example this video exemplifies which is using each moment well, not wasting precious moments with unnecessary dead air or thoughtless action. This seemed thought out but done naturally you could say masterfully. Well done and thank you for sharing this with us. Wishing you well from Chicago.
that's really kind of you to break it down like that. I'm glad you appreciate the content

Thanks for the time stamp lol
Now I am gonna have Emoji of a Wave stuck in my head for the next 3 days 🌊☺️
This guy is more talented than any person I have met
You’d probably be interested in traditional Japanese woodblock printing which is what that iconic photo actually is. It’s really cool.
i am thanks to david bull
I actually have a tattoo of this on my back and I absolutely love it
I literally clicked on my notifications and it said you posted 3 seconds ago. perfect timing. thanks for another video, bro.
lol nice timing
I’ve recently discovered your channel and I love it, especially the vids where you draw because I love to draw along. I also love hearing your calm voice, even though you didn’t talk on this one I still enjoyed drawing although there were some frustration because I’m not that artistically inclined lol. I’m new to watching ASMR vids but I’ve listened/watched to other vids of you just talking about science, space, vids of you editing and I’m not even kidding I’ve always had a good sleep (that’s rare for me) Oh yea btw have you taken like art classes before ? because you are good at drawing, if I could achieve the skill you have and a little bit more patience then I’d be happy to just draw things that I feel like drawing. I do love the activity but sometimes I just get frustrated
its taken me probably hundreds of hours of drawing to get just this good. i enjoyed it as a kid, but i dont think artistic ability is a genetic thing. its just practice and practice and failure and more practice. thanks for the love though. i appreciate the kind words
Wow, nice!! ありがとう‼︎🌊✨(Thank you)
nice drawing
**Goes to sleep 3 hours early because I'm so excited to watch this
lol
dude, i love you
Good to see you back. This video is great! The pencil sounds are fantastic, probably because of the paper texture too. Very relaxing and great drawing skills :)
thanks m. yea i agree the thick paper helps it more textured
Well, my day is made!
thanks b
Can you continue with the 1000 space facts ? It is my favorite and I am waiting for part 2. Also, great video !
absolutely. that's next in the queue
U can’t disagree on this guy having the 2nd place on the drawing leader board

waves.. you’re getting closer and closer to surfing! i can’t complain tho cause whatever the topic is, i’m stoked to see you posting again. hope you and your family are doing well
lol aidan you've been both persistent and patient. surfing it's still on the menu. i didn't forget!
I just got this video recommended and although it's a bit late. I have a suggestion. The same type of format but drawing in a computer. I'm currently studying 2D
& 3D animation so I know a couple of apps that are awesome for making really cool drawings. A vid with keyboard and mouse combined with the visual Asmr is something I've never seen and would be a cool experiment
Great suggestion! maybe ill give it a try this year
Great art skills you should become an artist
Thank you ❤️
