  • The DeeRC 9201e 4x4 Brushed 1:10 Short Course Truck (available here amzn.to/3FixPXj ) is the cheapest RC car in our 8-way comparison series of Desert Trucks and SCTs. It's less than a fifth the price of the two most expensive models in the series (links are below to all of them).
    When things are this cheap in an RTR, is it worth buying or can it simply not be made to last and perform like even the cheapest 'big name' brands here? I'm genuinely curious to find out, and if you are too, you'd better join me for this one!
    Let's test!
    Buy here: amzn.to/3FixPXj
    (I don't currently have a coupon from DeeRC, but on the sales page I see there's a check-box for 10% off at time of publication. Look out for sales if you're reading this in future, as I understand they do them numerous times a year.)
    Note: this vehicle was provided at no cost to RC-TNT for purposes of review. As always, my condition of such review is that the seller has no influence on my opinion or outcomes in the video, no impact on the outcome of the review, nor influence on how I make the video. Views presented here are my own and as clear as I can make them for my audience. Integrity first!

    13:55 "cant' go fast enough to get itself into trouble" I think that's part of the plan! Everyone IMO is so wrapped up in faster faster faster that all that power makes them unmanageable. A well balanced vehicle with enough speed to be fun until you get your skill level up. I watched a KT video where a kid went up against KT and his buddies with their over powered monsters and he won because all they did was wheelie and backflip all over the place.....
    edit: on your track, it wasn't the fastest but you did get all the way around without going off into the rhubarb 4 times per lap! hahaha

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      There is definitely a sweet spot. Many vehicles are silly powerful. This one falls a bit short but it's not too far from the mark for what it's design should deliver. Good point.

    • @thedesertpirate8247
      @thedesertpirate8247 7 месяцев назад +2

      For the most part I agree with you. Too many people are like Ricky Bobby and just want to go fast. But they drive their rigs into rocks, trees, curbs, cars, any thing that breaks rigs. However, if they are a more dedicated driver, if they have race rigs or something more specialized, then I can get behind the faster is better mentality. I have a rig that can hit triple digits in prime conditions. But I have others that max out at 25 and are just as fun in their own rights. A good transmitter can help with control, quite significantly. So I can see both sides of the fence here. But yeah, too many people go faster than they can drive.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад +1

      Well that's "well balanced" for you, and not silly powerful! If it puts a smile on your face, it's the right amount of power 😁

      Yeah, like how often are you really going to be able to use that? Like once a year? and then they have to turn on traction control to prevent them spinning out into the Rhubarb around a telephone pole. "do you know what traction control does? disrupts the ignition to hobble the engine until it gets traction" lol....

    I dont have this truck but I got WLToys 12428 that I've modified the heck of, and it's a performer. I kept the stock 540 brushed motor, added oil to the shocks, modified the front shock mounts and added sway bars all around. Just like the WPL models, these cheap trucks are a good way to learn modification and fabrication techniques. The hobby is what you make it to be FOR YOU, and not necessarily $$$ you throw at to get the performance...especially in these tough days when you got to make a choice between feeding your family or buying toys for fun.

    The Baja Rey is technically a 1/8. The Senton/Slash are true 1/10, and the Mojave and Baja Rey are quite a bit larger. Kinda weird how there isn't a "standardized scale chart" for buggies, trophy trucks, monster trucks, on road, etc.
    (For example: 1/10 short course is around 13 inch wheelbase, whereas a buggy with a 13 inch wheelbase would be considered 1/8 scale.)

    • @RCTNT

      That's another way of putting it (I didn't want to get into the maths of it like I've done in previous videos about trucks or smaller rigs, but you're exactly right, yes!). This car is listed in a misleading way, basically. I think that's the point. Whether you're okay with that or not is up to you, of course - but I wanted to help it to be an informed decision at least! Cheers

    Your reviews are appreciated I have the Mojave 6s ,Fireteam , Rustler 4x4 vxl and I was going to get the Mojave 4s but I’m thinking of the Losi in the Eisenberg edition or getting the Keyosho Toyota Tacoma basher which I’m hoping you get it to review. Or a review of the new Traxxas Raptor I’ve seen some reviews & it’s fast & looked fun.

    • @RCTNT
      @RCTNT  7 месяцев назад

      Nice one. I'm glad to be useful! So, the Traxxas Raptor is basically one of the updated Slash 4x4 VXL variants, I think (?) - I haven't really looked closely at it yet, but if you like your Rustler then you'll probably like the Raptor. Main difference will be the skinnier wheels and lower CoG, I'm guessing. Meanwhile, the Losi BR2.0 will be more a scale driver than the bash-oriented rigs you already have, and maybe that'd be nice. I'll get to driving mine soon! Lastly, the Kyosho Tacoma may end up on my workbench. It won't be soon, but I'll look into it in the new year and we'll see. Cheers :)

  • @WhatAboutRC
    @WhatAboutRC 7 месяцев назад +2

    Pretty sure they called it 1/10th as compared to other 1/10th scale RC they had like it and not the SCT trucks its based on. Dont forget that a Slash is also a 1/10 scale because its 1/10th the scale of the real truck however in RC world its the same size as a 1/8th scale. Why its a bit larger than 1/10th scale crawlers and they even make kits that can turn them into 1/8th scale buggies. The DeeRC is a RC based 1/10th scale truck. The Arrma Mojave is a RC based 1/8th scale truck. The others are a 1/10th scale based not on RC but a SCT truck.

    Nice video. The scale in RCs is an interesting topic. I would call that a 1/14 scale. It's nowhere near a 1/10. Looks decent for what it is tough but very misleading to sell it as a 1/10. I personally don't want to support companies that are selling products with false claims .

    • @RCTNT

      That's a great question. I really don't know. I will say motor and servo are easily enough replaced, and links and shafts won't be hard to do. If you kill the body you'll probably need something else, but that also isn't too bad. Bearings are pretty universal too.
      Really, the only concern will be hinge pin brace, castor blocks, hub carriers and A-arms. I'm not sure, sorry.
      The good news is, this car doesn't really go hard enough to break them except in a freak accident, and you'll probably have gotten your money's worth by the time things start early wearing down. Hopefully!

    oh and there is in fact a tiny amount of oil in the shocks from the factory.
