I'm dealing with family who are loathe to get rid of anything and it was a real wake-up call for me. I just reduced my collection down from three shelves to half a shelf. I thought about it in terms of what I'd want to watch if I was stuck in a snowed-in cabin with no internet.

The trick is curating while buying. That's how I keep my collection well organised.

One thing I did was consolidate the collection. I don't have a lot of space, but didn't want to get rid of movies, so the ones that weren't as important to me, I took out of the cases, threw away the cases and put them into 225 disc albums in alphabetical order, by genre. That has really thinned out the collection a lot!!

Don't worry, usually this comes with being older. I certainly did for me.
And with the movies i am uncertain of, I'll just rent the physical copy when available. SO much cheaper this way. I still buy my favorites though.

Nah if you have the space hoarding is fun and can be pretty useful. Definitely keep the important and relevant stuff at hand. there’s no release value for most of this stuff and you shouldn’t bite the bullet if you don’t have to. Definitely give extras to friends and other collectors.

I used to have hundreds of blu-rays/DVDs but recently discarded the bulk of them with the assistance of a junk removal company. I am relieved.

I agree, Kyle. We can’t keep everything and I would much rather keep movies that I would watch at any time, than to keep movies that I will never watch.

Frailty! Don't get rid of that without watching it first. Trust me :)

It’s hard for our friends with small apartments or just a room but it’s worth it in the long run.

The biggest problem is minus you having a limited edition kinda release...you get next to nothing for your used media...its hard to say let me get rid of this when you get pennies on the dollar if you want to let it go.

Yeah unfortunately its very rare you make money when getting rid of items, Usually your lucky if you break even for what you have in the item

That's why I put my entire collection in an off-site climate-controlled storage unit, I can be a minimalist at home and a hoarder in an undisclosed location. It's only a hoard until it's organized. Then the curation begins. 30 years collecting. Peace!

That’s funny because to me the organized hoard is part of my interior design lmao.
