This song is the reason why the British ESC fans should cut the "Europe hates the UK" talk and accept the fact that if they send quality entries, they're likely to slay the leaderboard
MultiSuperllama sometimes it happens that a quality entry like Molly's flops tragically. Just look at this year's entry from the Czech Republic. I think you guys should send some talented hasbeen like Pixie Lott, Duffy, Eliza Doolittle, Diana Vickers, Alexandra Burke or Little Boots. All are very different and all can offer something interesting.
BASIL good point and if she were to come back better be the Sugarbabes with her band mate Heidi Range since they would be the British Answer to Estonian bands Suntribe which was represented by Laura in both 2017 & 2005 and Vanilla Ninja (Switzerland 2005)
No no nooo this entry is noooo big gun. The only big thing about it is the name of Sir A. L. Webber. I mean I adore so much of his work but here we got just his name. His talent wasn't there, a good song wasn't there, a winner performer wasn't there. This mediocrity only took jury votes because people were ashamed not to vote for Andrew fucking Loyd fucking Weber. But it was an unfair result and the only time in this century that the British entry was overrated. The UK should have been in top5 in 2017 and in 2014 but not in 2009 leaving behind masterpieces from France, Estonia & Bosnia-Herzegovina. It's a song competition, not a name competition.
This is the best performance i've ever seen in eurovision, look at the stage when the camera took a long shoot...that's so elegant and gives a chill. This should have won if it was a weak year. 2009 is the best edition of eurovision in 2000's-2010's
The vocals are good but she screams so much it becomes annoying after a while. Far from the best in my opinion, and that's because the song just isn't well-made.
Every year when we do badly at Eurovision I come back to this performance to remember that there was a time when we did well at the contest and it makes me feel better😊🇬🇧
I mean the UK is famous for its theater history (West End). This song has a musical theatrical feel and successfully made it to the top 5. IMO, BBC should send this kind of song again in the future
Agreed, Andrew Lloyd Webber wrote the song, who is the same person that produced Cats: The Musical. And Jade Ewen played Jasmine in the West End adaptation of Jasmine. So it kinda makes sense why this sounds so theatrical 💖
this song was perfect and proof that if you send quality, you get the quantity of points. 5th place for the united kingdom is almost unprecedented now. jade slayed this song!
She was amazing 100% live, no playback No group of 6 backing vocalists like most other acts No gimmicks (unless you count ALW lol) Just an amazing singer and a beautifully crafted song to showcase her vocals! 🇬🇧
All UK needs is serious collaboration of it's finest song writers and composers.a wining song doesn't always need to be fancy, uplifting etc.take ex Portugal 2017
@@CubicCreeper7914yep Sam Ryder’s is more midtempo and he did well. Maybe they should stick around that formula before sending risqué upbeat numbers like Mae Muller or Olly Alexander!
And for us Icelanders too. We are also waiting for a result like 2009 again. Of course, to do that we need to send a good song, something we've been consistently bad at during the 2010s.
12 Puntos.
Flawless voice, incredible orchestration, and composition, of course written by a legend, Andrew Lloyd Webber. This song was by far the best one that year, way above what this contest deserves. All other songs were childish compared to this.
Year 2009 was truely mythical year - almost all songs was top tier where at least half of them are still in my favorites and most surprisingly - this was the only year where i actually liked songs from UK and Germany.
I'm German and our song in 2009 was awful. This guy with his annoying silver pants and Dita v Teese just sitting there doing nothing. It was so awkward.
So good and if the United Kingdom wants to send Jade Ewen back to Eurovsion the answer is her girl band Sugarbabes with Heidi Range for Lisbon 2018 since Sugarbabes would be the British equivalent to Swedish band ABBA 1974 Eurovision and Estonian duets and bands Suntribe Laura 2005 & 2017 Elina & Stig 2015
I think this the key to success for the UK, this is a winning level song and it came 5th because you need a top level song to get that far, middle of the road tracks will just end up last because they leave no impact.
all in all the song is meow meow ..💫 but her voice is worldclass...😍. its like a first Celine Dion meets Whitney Houston moment 🤩- this voice is so catchy and great.... well deserved 5th
WOW I always think we get undermarked at Eurovision (well we do tbh) but honestly we did really well this year and this song is the first one of our entries where I was like 'oh wow this is really good' so maybe our entries since then just haven't been deserving of points
trouble is we dont have contests like sweden or norway .. we dont decide some sml group of people just decide and send them in withoutu an opinion and if there is a year where we can choose theres very limited options ... kinda like eurivision itself with 5 songs to choose from :S but most times we dont decide at all
Oh my gosh. Since RUclips put in the feature where you can see where the most replayed part of the song is... Y'all are only here for the memes, huh? 🤣
This song is the reason why the British ESC fans should cut the "Europe hates the UK" talk and accept the fact that if they send quality entries, they're likely to slay the leaderboard
We are only joking when we say that. The BBC chooses for us, we only had our "first national selection" this year. :D

George Austin Tay I agree. Its obvious we wont send any big artists so some you have mentioned sound pretty good. We have just all given up hope!
MultiSuperllama
come on, Duffy can send a song where she's farting and she'd still be more talented and taken more seriously than most participants!
2009 was such a goddamn quality year on Eurovision... Possibly, one of the best top 5 in history in my opinion...
Make that a top 6, Randajad was great as well
2008, 2010 and 2011 were pretty good too
2019 better

She played princess jasmine in the west end cast of Aladdin

To me it doesn't even look accidental :D
Just goes to show that when the UK bring out the big guns, they can do well. In a weaker year, this could even have won.
a year or two earlier this could win
+Gabriela Piechowicz Not in 2007
Probably in 2011
in 2011 uk can win with this song :)

Masterpiece.
Best UK entry!
Agreed. My personal favourite in 2009 :)
Do not come close to the violinists
But she did recover Quickly
This proves that the UK can do well if they send a high-quality entry.
We can if the BBC want to. They are a dictatorship and a disgrace to us UK Eurovision fans.
You’ll never know how proud I felt watching this as an 11-year-old lad growing up in the middle of UK Flop Era ❤
What a brilliant voice. I love it.

1-Turkey

I think the UK should just send another ballad like this sung by a young singer with a strong voice..

Very very very strong year for this song, in any other year this song had won
Wow - what a mix of Jade and Andrew! Deserved to win for sure.
