Technogym Skillrun Unity 7000 Console PART 2: The Tiles, Submenus, and Settings

  • This is PART 2 of my 3-part video user manual for the Technogym Skillrun Unity 7000 console,
    covering the 50+ on-screen tiles, and most of the tiles' countless submenus and settings. PART 1 covered all the on-screen controls plus the physical controls. PART 3 will cover the hidden System Settings options.
    Technogym doesn't make a user manual for the console screen, and that might be reasonable from their perspective. The Skillrun is designed as a commercial treadmill, for high-end gyms, where users don't expect to read equipment manuals, so the software's user interface must be as intuitive as possible.
    On the other hand, Technogym does sell some Skillruns to individuals, and whether the treadmill is owned by a person, or used by someone at a gym, or someone is considering buying one, or maybe you're just curious, some folks might want some comprehensive videos to how to use a Skillrun. This set of three videos is intended to answer the questions: What can a Skillrun do? and How do you operate a Skillrun?
    This is the best treadmill on the market in 2020, in my opinion, and there's a lot it can do. I'm busy creating videos to show you all of it, and I hope you enjoy them.
    Thanks for watching, and keep walking, running, or sprinting!

    This video is fantastic, I wish the manufacturer would produce in-depth walkthroughs like yours! Have you used the internet browsing at all or any of the streaming services (i.e. Netflix)? I'm very interested in the streaming video quality, particularly for live TV -- we use RUclips TV in place of traditional cable, so unless you're also a subscriber, it'll probably be difficult for you to say but I'm concerned about lagging/pixelated video. There's not a tile included for RUclips TV unfortunately so it seems my only hope is to access it via the internet browser. The closest approximation may be watching a longer show or movie on Netflix to compare any buffering. Thank you in advance!

      Thanks! I wanted a video like this before I bought my Skillrun, and when I didn't find one, I started planning to make one, just in case there were other folks out there who wanted the same thing. For entertainment on longer walks or runs, I tend to do the same few things over and over, and that doesn't include Netflix or RUclips TV, however, I watch the same RUclips video of a virtual run down the Grand Canyon over and over (ruclips.net/video/qLaLmEW0hWg/видео.html), and the video quality seems as good as what I see on my computer at full screen. I've noticed some delay in starting, but not after it starts. Otherwise, I mostly use the built in Outdoors POV videos or play Sudoku.

    Thanks for the in depth walk through. One question: Can the SkillRun operate in full manual mode like the old SkillMill curved treadmill?

    • @TreadmillSprinter
      @TreadmillSprinter  Год назад

      You're welcome! The Skillrun when in sled mode is manual for the tread and uses the motor like a generator to supply a wide range of resistance, and you have to use your hands & arms to push against the frame, and the parachute mode is very similar, except you push against the best instead of pushing against the frame. However, for hand-free manual mode you have to have a curved surface under the tread, which the Skillmill has, and the Skillrun doesn't.

    Thank you for this video, John. I just joined a gym that has Skillruns and now I'm not so intimidated to use them. Do you know if the skillrun will transmit speed and cadence data to a Garmin watch? I was hoping I could record a run with my Garmin and get accurate speed & cadence data (like a foot pod) to my watch. Thanks again!

    • @TreadmillSprinter
      @TreadmillSprinter  3 года назад

      You're welcome, Melody! Thanks for letting me know you liked it! I don't know if your Garmin and the Skillrun will do that, but I did find an article that said, "Runners who use Garmin and other run-tracking watches can also upload outdoor routes to be mimicked indoors." robbreport.com/lifestyle/health-wellness/technogym-skillrun-treadmill-brings-the-runner-high-indoors-2786025/ Unfortunately, that's the only information I could find about Garmins and the Skillrun.
      I don't have a smart watch, but I checked my Skillrun anyway and under the Bluetooth smart phone connection screen, it appears to be able to connect to iPhones and Android phones. Based on what the article above said, I'm guessing the Skillrun would treat a smart watch like a smart phone.
      When you try your gym's Skillrun, make sure you try out the Biofeedback screen and the Cadence Training options, and let me know how you like them.

    Thank you so much for this Review.
    The most ridiculous part: They don't have a TrainingPeaks integration. My coach schedules me structured runs and i can't load them there? what the...
    I liked this Hi Lo block, where it speeds up automatically. Does it also speed up automatically when you build your own workout? It's a bummer that a 20k$ treadmill can't load workouts and then you just play them. It would be an absolute nobrainer for me to buy it.
    Now i'm really reconsidering if a 4k$ treadmill (technogym Myrun) isn't sufficient actually. No matter how much i loved the skill run when i ran on it, no zwift integration (can be fixed with 100$ RUNN tool) and no trainingpeaks integration is such an embarrassment. The Myrun has a trainingpeaks integration. How fucked up it is sometimes....

    • @TreadmillSprinter
      @TreadmillSprinter  Год назад

      You're welcome, Tim, and I like a lot of the pre-programmed features, but I strongly agree with you that it would be a huge improvement to the software to be able to upload my own pre-programmed workouts. It has a way to define a custom workout on screen, but I find it very awkward and very inadequate. I also think it would be much better to make it compatible with Zwift. My guess is that because the Skillrun is designed for gyms (including with on-screen instructor-led classes) and they have other consumer treadmills, they don't care about maximizing consumer features on the Skillrun. Regardless of the reason, I suspect they could sell a lot more if they improved these things.

    • @timvanmonero2720
      @timvanmonero2720 Год назад +1

      @@TreadmillSprinter yes, that's actually the philosophy. the MyRun is the consumer treadmill. zwift support, training peaks integrations... it's all there.
      the NEW 2022 skillrun has training peaks integration via "my run" app. but still no Zwift.
      Ultimately, they go towards gyms with their "my wellness" app.
      Woodway on the other hand, zwift support out of the box. i must research if also training peaks support. but i lean towards buying the new 4Front for ~13k$ rather than a used skillrun for 10/11k$ which doesn't have my custom workouts loaded. such a bummer.

  • @bikedawg
    @bikedawg 3 года назад +2

    I'm still on the fence on trying to decide on the Skillrun ior 4Front, but wanted to ask you if you happen to know if either of the treadmill mfgrs have published APIs for third party software developers to create programs to control the trainer. I want to develop an app on my desktop and make it available for coaches and users to design their own workouts that control the treadmill's speed and elevation. Any advice you can give me would be helpful---thanks so much!

    • @TreadmillSprinter
      @TreadmillSprinter  3 года назад

      Hi Scott! I've spent some time thinking about this. First, no, I don't know if either will provide APIs to 3rd party developers, but I doubt it because I suspect they would be afraid of an app messing something up, and they might forecast little potential for added value compared to the risk. So if you want to earn money selling an app, I suspect they may not make that possible. However, if you want to earn money with online coaching, the Skillrun has an existing system for that: www.technogym.com/gb/skillrun-class/. Oh, and Skillrun users and some Woodway models let users predefine their own speed & elevation workouts.

    How to upload your run to Strava ?

    • @TreadmillSprinter
      @TreadmillSprinter  3 года назад

      Hello again, Najmudin! Technogym has their own version of online workout records at www.MyWellness.com, and the Skillrun can automatically upload your workout results there. For third-party apps like Strava, the best method may be to attach a blue tooth device to your shoe like you would for simple treadmills. I found this page at Strava that talks about it: support.strava.com/hc/en-us/articles/216919417-Stationary-Indoor-and-Treadmill-Activities
