The "K" in the 5th VIN position has special meaning to early Mustang fans, and this 1966 version is a perfect example of why! The K code cars featured not only the 271 HP 289 V8, they also rode on a performance suspension system. We take a look at a Signal Flare Red K-Code from the Brothers Collection to learn more.

I owned a1965 Poppy Red High Performance Mustang back in the day. I paid $3400 dollars for it brand new with a 4 speed and rally pack. It was a real looker and was fast for it's day, only problem was you had to adjust the valve lash every 12,000 miles....... I wish I had all the hot cars I owned back then today, I would be very rich if I did. 1955 Belair Chevy coupe with the POWER PAC 265, 1964 Chevy Malibu S/S with a 327, 1968 GTO with the Hi-Po 400 cubic inch engine. YES THOSE WERE THE DAYS MY FRIEND.

If you paid 3400 back in 1965, that equates to roughly 28000 in 2020. If you spend 28000 today, you can get a brand new fully warrantied automobile that is a 3 seconds faster in the quarter mile and will get 30mpg + on the drive home . So yea, "THOSE WERE THE DAYS" when cars cost about the same as they do today (when accounting for inflation) and had inferior performance statistics. Old cars are awesome and all, but thinking they were cheap and/or fast when compared to today's options is very naive.

It would have been misfiring and blowing smoke like the other cars on the channel.
