Saving Uncle Albert's Zichar Stall: An Old-School Hawker Goes Digital

- Uncle Albert is an old-timer who keeps Singapore's hawker culture alive with dishes like fried intestines, fried fish roe and beef kway teow.
But when Singapore imposed "circuit breaker" measures to contain the spread of COVID-19, he nearly went out of business, with daily sales dipping from S$1,000 to less than S$100.
Things started to look up when his children stepped in to take his old-school stall online - but it came with a whole new set of challenges.
[Note that Uncle Albert isn't taking online orders at the moment, but you can visit his stall at Blk 21 Old Airport Road. It's open from 5pm onwards every day.]

He has brought up his children very well. What a lovely family.
Uncle Albert is part of culinary heritage. GOD bless you. What a wonderful daughter. Now adays children are to each his own. God bless the daughter.
This is how Asian families work. American families, there is no meaning of "family" everyone is on their own. No one helps each other at all. And people wonder why Asians are doing so well etc.
Good inspiring story for all the children of the 21st century with the message " Do not abandon your parents when they need you most" .Well done & congratulations from Australia
when someone is desperate, either make it or break it. I am glad that this family made it through. Jiayou!!!

Very rarely do we consider how much troubles our everyday hawkers go through, especially during COVID-19. I’m happy for Uncle Albert and his family and wish them all the best in the future. Well done to the filmmakers as well for shining a light on this profile. Good work 👍

1 Pork Ribs, 1 vegetable, 1 Fu Yong egg for 2 pax cost about 25 to 30 in zhi char store.
Alot people got their pay cut or retrenched will not eat zhi char, they rather buy simple economy rice with the same item for 3.50 per pax.
👍
我希望你的生意会好起来!!

Finally something positive from the Covid times
You know the food is delicious when the kitchen is so messy. Asian restaurants are just like that
Singaporeans and Filipinos look very similar yet the economic situations are world apart.
basically digitalization of streetfood. lol.
Now that indoor dinning has resumed, they have abandoned their online ordering. Their website and ordering platform are dead.
yah just noticed that
40 fish heads a day... day $10 profit/ head that's 10k profit a month
1000 dollar revenue a day that's like 25k a month
Assuming you work 25 days a month.
hmm minus the cost....
@Yvonne Steiner the meepok seller making $1.5 per bowl before rental deduction.
WHAT??!! When i order food online, my food come from chinese restaurant? How do i know right????? Doom ME!! from what i know they wipe using tissue. Euuuwwyak! =)
