      Hi, i think your videos are great and you are awesome at what you do. But please, do not say that "even if your hands are too small, you are still able to do this". It is simple physics... If one can't grab a deck of card in one hand without the extra long fingers to manipulate the deck, it is just not gonna work.

      Hello, I’d like to reiterate slightly what some others have said. I’ve been a practicing magician for 20 years, and have worked tirelessly on the Charlier and Revolution cut. Not only do I have to modify my one hand cuts significantly, I simply cannot command control of the cards in the same way as someone who has larger hands. I have to use entirely different grips, or utterly change the finger positioning. So yes, practice makes perfect, but I find it entirely disingenuous to think that having larger hands doesn’t make it easier.

      Get good at normal Charlie first. Like, really good to where its hard wired into your brain. Than watch the video in slow motion and slowly follow along while using your other hand for extra help. Than try to do it without your other hand.

      Ok so im not crazy. Because i have practiced Charlier, both hands, and have it down pretty well (for a beginner) and Running Charlier.... i just cant grasp. Even having 2nd hand assistance to keep packet together i cant seem to find the room to "drop it down" into my hand. And i KNOW theres room, i have bigger hands. I just.. cant... find out how. Its magic at this point but it looks so simple.

    I haven't even learned any of these but the first cut yet, but the tutorial is not bad. I understand what I need to do, but I just need to build up the muscle memory to do it, and I think that a lot of the people in this comment section don't understand the concept of practicing something to actually be able to do it.

    Absolute beginner and, damn, my hands hurt. Great first tutorial to land on though. Screw the guy who says you didn't explain enough. As with anything else: pick it up, practice and you start to know what to look for once you grasp the subtle challenges. Watched this at least ten times looking for the details. My only question would be, is there a "too sore" point? You gotta build muscle with any new skill so I expect some discomfort but should I be worried about long term consequence?

    • @DecemberBoys
      @DecemberBoys  6 лет назад +8

      If you feel pain, just put the cards away for two-three days. Then get back to it. You will be surprised how much faster you progress this way. No need to fixate on a single move too much, and remember that for some it takes months and even years to master and being able to smoothly execute a certain move, so make sure the amount of practice you should put in isn't a discouraging factor for you.

    does anyone have advice on how to actually "make" packets, as in moving them as one unit? i finally got the regular charlier down so i can do it without even thinking, but for the running charlier, if i manage to fit any of my index finger into the top packet to split it, the resulting topmost packet often just splits into several cards that slide down my index finger all spread out. i can remedy this sometimes by shaking the whole hand toward the ground to recollect the topmost splay of cards into a single packet, but this is really clunky and not smooth at all, and in this vid it looks like gravity is doing the work of keeping all the cards together. should i be chalking my fingers up to make them really dry or something?

    I'm a big fan of Brian Tudor's flourishes and I've been practicing them since 2009. But he would be ashamed of me if he saw me try to do the one handed revolution. All these years and I still can't do the cut fast. How do you do it? I always get slow around the part where you have the top packet between the index and ring fingers.

    • @kf88743
      @kf88743 4 года назад

      After you split the deck...slide your hand down the side of the pack where your pointer finger is approximately in the middle of the deck. Rotate the top pack to you while simultaneously pushing the bottom pack towards your thumb with the ring finger. Your ring finger will end up in the perfect position to avoid being hit
      This worked better for me than putting my ring finger in the bottom packet while rotating it towards me like he did in the video.
      Kind of hard to explain, but I kept experimenting with it. It was harder to do it slow. Getting a rhythm definitely helps

The long fingered guys do have a huge advantage,, there is no doubt about it. but I have super short fingers and was able to get it with my lefty,, so any of you that play guitar might want to try with your left ...

    I’m not trying to complain, but I just literally don’t understand how the thumb cut is possible if you don’t have big enough hands, please someone help me understand. I can’t grab one side of the deck with my thumb and middle finger at the same time

      It’s not possible if your hands aren’t big enough. I know a good amount of card moves, and I get a bit frustrated when people call the thumb cut a “beginner move.” Sure it is not difficult to learn for a beginner, but some people just can’t do it. I’ve seen plenty of talented cardists who classify their hands as “not big enough for the thumb cut.” It is just a bit annoying since a cut that truly depends on hand size is included in these videos that are “beginner lists.” Makes it seem like no matter how small your hands may be, you should master the thumb cut and all these others before learning harder moves. That’s not true though! You can learn the coolest moves out there without being able to do the thumb cut

    define "basic" and "beginner" level... i mean, charlier and revolution are not too hard, but octupus? or running charlier? really "beginner" level? im not even talking about smoothly doing them nonstop in perfect motion, im talking about getting them done in more then 1 out of 5 times and within less than 20s. this is not beginner stuff...

    does the card size matter? :)

      MaDaSaVaGe perhaps. Try a bridge size, and you may find better success until you move into the larger standard.

    We do not have small hands, we have untrained not flexible hands, the more we practice the more flexibility we gain. It takes time and patience!!

    You have the worst angle for the camera you should do it with like a go pro atleast

  • @harrywhite9030

    Honestly. Can't do it. My hands are big and I just cant., The cards slid too much or I can't move the first half of the deck any further back which means the second half physically can't move down.
