Enigma Reloaded event at the RSGB National Radio Centre

RSGB National Radio Centre (NRC) volunteers were delighted to participate in the seventh Enigma Reloaded event, working in conjunction with the Bletchley Park Learning Team.
Organised by the amateur radio club of the Italian Naval College, a Morse Code message, previously encrypted by Enigma, was transmitted on the 80m, 40m and 20m amateur band to participating museums around the world, with each museum in turn acknowledging receipt of the message, again using CW.
At the NRC, a team of five CW operators took down the message being transmitted from Italy and then compared the characters written down. This process is similar to how members of the Radio Security Service (RSS) may have done it in WWII when intercepting a message. The five radio operators were, seated (far left to far right) Derek, M0YAW; Peter, M0PJD; Ed, G3ZLX; John, G4FZA; Derek, G4VWI. John, G4FZA was the main operator, using the Morse key sending the CW
The Bletchley Park Learning Team provided a genuine WWII Enigma machine and invited members of the public to press keys on the Enigma machine, enabling the original plain text message to be read.
