FRANCISCO BUSTAMANTE vs RODNEY MORRIS - Sands Regency 9-Ball Open XX

Francisco “Django” Bustamante takes on “The Rocket” Rodney Morris in the early rounds of the Sands Regency 9-Ball Open XX on December 8th, 1994.
Bustamante, 30, had already won the Japan Open and Bicycle Club events in his young career, but would go on to win many more accolades, including a World 9-Ball Championship in 2010.
Twenty four year old Rodney Morris was just breaking on to the pool scene in 94, but would also go on to win many major titles including a World 9-Ball Championship, US Open 9-Ball Championship and World Pool League titles.

Pay attention to the commentary as “The Professor” Grady Mathews answers the important question of which would be easier to give up for him, women or gambling. Does anyone actually prefer today's magic rack soft break runout to this type of power game? I mean the big break is EVERYTHING good about 9 ball. If you want to watch finesse, go watch straight pool.

Nice to hear Grady's voice on there, pretty decent match. Yours is a good question, and in my oppinion, some things evolve fairly predictably. What I mean is, the break historically was w/ heavy, dense and none reactive balls, and cloth was worsted material. So an aggressive break made sense, now w/ a 14.1 cloth or 30/30 it makes you want to tap your breaks; mixed w/ phenolic resin balls: Deuel was ostrasized, but he simply found something that worked. The magic rack was just another attempt to mitigate the head 'Bob-and-weave' proctological examination that seems to ensue every match. In conclusion, anyone playing for Wampam is abjectly insane not to legislate 'rack your own'!
