You can go considerably faster and farther if you change out those Juggernaut knobby's for fatty street tires and if like me you do most of your riding on the road you really should. My M2S AT-750 HT came with the same Juggernaut tires as your bike but most all of my riding is on blacktop with the occasional gravel/dirt road and I did not really need them, plus they were noisy and rode like crap. So I went shopping and got a set of Origin8 Supercell's and damn, what a difference. With the same OEM Juggernaughts as your bike I got a top speed of 26mpg on flat blacktop. Not bad for a guy weighing #290 + groceries and side baskets, but with the new Supercells I hit 36mph over the same stretch of road. I saw a Yuge difference, plus the ride was 100% better and whisper quiet. And yea, for me 36mph is just too fast to be safe, even with disk brakes, also going that fast heated my battery more than I liked so I reset the speed controller to keep speeds Class 2 legal and it's great. I set it to cruise at 18mph on throttle alone and with the Origin8 tires I get greater range ansd a smoother, quieter more comfortable ride _ its all Win. Those Juggernauts may be OK if you are doing most or all of your riding off road but on the street you can do a lot better. Change those knobby's for a set of fatty road tires of any quality brand and you will see a boost in performance and comfort.

Hi, from down on Greenhorn Rd...I'm gonna be in the market to pick up a bike from you guys soon and need to come up there at some point. Not sure yet whether I need the big 'ole fat tires or the next step smaller, with the puncture proof Kendas. I sure get a ton of flats on my Specialized stumpjumper. What's the deal with cadence sensor vs. torque? Maybe you've done a vid on this already? I see Juiced has the cadence option on some of their models, and profess that it's a very desirable feature. Wondered what your take is on it.
I'm pretty sure you can mate ,I'm from Ireland and they just pass the law on ebikes. I watch a video of an English guy making his own ebike an it did 80mh
Restrictions on guns, airguns, knives and even electric bikes? You ever consider moving? I could never, ever live in such a socialist state. Wait a minute, sorry! I forgot Biden was president! Freedom is what matters most!
So if you are able to to up the 750 w on this bike could you do the same thing on a Sonders rockstar which has the same motor and is at 750w also? Thanks
you should just b able to take the limiter off in the control screen like he did, but you can also reprogram the controller with the laptop connector and app. i think they are limited when they ship out
so I purchased one of these based on your review and it seems to be locked at 20mph and I can't unlock the speed it has a CANbus not UART.....how can I go over 20?
Fun review with impressive results. My kind of exploring by bike. Can you say something about tire wear and replacement costs for the large 4” format? Can you charge both batteries overnight with a single charger? Thanks for putting this information together.
I honestly feel for you. My bike isn’t exactly legal here in Portland, Or., but I live next park and have what’s called the Springwater Corridor, a 40 mile”loop”. It’s like a freeway for bikes. I go slow past the joggers and most normal bikes. I will blow past a roadie already going 25mph...they were always flying past me on my mt. bike commuting. I got a Bafang BBSHD on my old(like new still) Banshee Sirocco. It’s real purpose is to get my old bones up the trail. It does it in spades. It’s crazy. I don’t have to pedal where you would have to get off and push. If I were in the UK, I’d get a Bafang and lie my ass off. Cheers
You have quite the nice commute home. I've been over 50 mph on a road bike, not to much of a biggie as they are designed for that kind of stuff......50 mph plus on a fat tire bike? Nope. I had a fat tire go down at about 15 mph......hit a shard of glass and the front tire went flat in about 2 seconds and got wrapped up in the front fork...I went OTB and ended up badly injuring my shoulder. Ive been riding and racing bikes for 50 years and 2 seconds of warning before a *huge* floppy 4.9 fat tire goes down isn't much time and that was only at 15 mph.
That's a pretty cool downhill ride. But that actually brings up a good point. Is there a generally accepted maximum safe downhill speed for Ebikes? Does this matter much with regard to fat tire or not, hydraulic assist or not? I'm sure there must be some range for these things. In my case, anything much over 30-35ish downhill makes me feel like that Ewok after he stole that speeder bike in Return of the Jedi. Cool, but terrifying fast. On a level surface it is not so bad, but I don't really feel like the standard brakes would be up for an emergency stop. For reference, mine is a 2021 Hemiway Cruiser. Great bike, but with the mechanical brakes, I'm not sure about stuff like this! Would going to hydraulics fix that, or is it really only some bikes that should ever get that fast?
I changed out my 4.5" Juggernauts because I didn't like the way the bike sounded like a pickup with off road tires going down the street. Those suckers are loud! I put on some 4" smoothies and have not looked back. Way more smooth and quiet ride. I only ride on sidewalks, paved bike paths and streets. No off road for me so no benefit from the knobbies.
What I want to know is why do the manufacturers use plastic (nylon, or whatever) internal gears instead of using metal? Certainly, a nylon or plastic gear is not going to have the staying power that a hardened metal gear would have. I'd hate that the argument or explanation would be that it makes the bike lighter because that would be an absolutely horrible if not altogether terrible reason.
@@Area13ebikes So, nylon gears last longer than metal ones? And, so, you're saying that lubrication is a huge factor in the longevity of the nylon gears? I mean, it makes sense. Noise is an interesting factor. I had no idea that a metal gear, if it was well-lubricated, still makes so much noise. Who knew?
Can You address the Speed thing ? If people want to Fly on a bicycle down the road why wouldn't they buy a small motorcycle / moped ? I don't get it. 25 MPH on My eBike is even too fast in most situations. It's getting to a place where they are now putting 5 and 6 outboards on boats - - Crazy - - -!!!!!
Motorcycles have ten times the planet-destroying emissions of a car per mile, supposedly. Also excercise. That being said, e-bike safety is a big issue. Several journos have noted the growing and large amount of ebike casualties and fatalities (mostly from immature/bad bikers - anyone can get on an ebike and abuse it without a license, unlike say, a motorcycle). Helmets and other safety features motorcycles have are lacking in ebikes, and ebikes are a little harder to see too. Would be cool to see @Bolton Ebikes make a video about ebike safety!
@@TheWeapon33 a video about bike safety and would be an excellent idea. I’m a newer ebiker and it took my first ride on the ebike to realize things bike safety and ebike safety are not the same. There are other things to consider but I haven’t seen any resources.
It is looking you plan to fry eggs on motor. I have both motors 750W hub cadence , 1000W mid drive torque on the same battery 48V 17.5A. Mid drive with tire 26x2.6 very light wheels overall performing worse 10+% than 750W fat tire 26x4" thunder bike removed front rack and created huge back rack . Avg speed similar with one bat mid drive on road climbs even harder better at higher speeds over 35km/h. With one bat mid drive never become what expected by peak power 1500W which can pull 30A. Reasons; On low speed low air drug small power motor ineficient for battery good 6A or less loads. On higher power 500W plus motor efficiency better but battery voltage sag reduces performance and overall range drops also dramatically. On low speed (20-25km/h)hard to get over 75km , did not try high power normally rides 2.5H plus to 6h did not want to finish in an hour. With fat tyres 750W get easy 80 even with pass 1 90km with the same avg speed included stops . 2 weeks ago added the second battery in parallel on the mid drive and the first motor become what should be at the first place, at low power similar like 2x one bat in higher speeds with much better motor efficiency and reduced bateries currents reduced voltage sags got speed and range . Done only 2 tests rides one slow 6h and other faster 3h and looking like mid drives 1500W peak really needs 2 batteries avoid voltage sag and extend life or reduce abuse of batteries. Range with me 115kg could be slow 140+km , fast 30km/h plus 110+km even more on flatter riding , that is enough good batteries get discharged much less and current halfed on each what will dramatically increase life span. If they recommend to charge with 2A , discharging with 20A to 40A cannot be good for any battery. Mid drive needs two batteties for expected performance, Defender S shall not be sold with only one battery. Mid drive with one battery tire 26x2.6 ( what should bd speedy demon) it is overall much worse than hub motor 750W fat 26x4" tire . Because of extra 1000$aus for the 2nd battery many bikes are sold with not good match up motor battery what course bad perfomance. They can sell at the first with single baterry but should inform customer regard importance to match motor power with battery capacity to get real output.
