What i like most of all is you can see Mikes love for Family, Aviation, Friends, rare to see someone with this much passion and drive for anything and everything they do, Mike you really genuinely enjoy life, i can see it in how you talk, act etc etc, you're a rare gem in this day n age my friend, you're a definite role model for ALLOT of people, keep it up brother...Back To Work!
Mike, I have been depressed the past few days, you and Mark are enthusiastic, upbeat, and infectious, I feel better just by watching your videos. Thank you! "Lets be good to others!" How cool is that? If my voice counts, I would love to hear what you are most exited about trying in Scrappy. Thanks again.
I'm a 74 year old non pilot who loves what you Mike and you Mark are doing. So inspiring and so thrilling to watch. Scrappy is great!
Don’t think I’ve ever watched a 30 minute aviation video before with my mouth wide open and drooling the whole time. This thing is incredible
Thanks again for that Mike & Mark.
Great to have had an opportunity to watch it again, it was just as entertaining and educational as the first time I watched.
Fantastic stuff.
Thank you to all involved.
This video was excelent. Having you make it with your brother was just icing on a well constructed cake.
This past week I introduced an older pilot to your channel and he has thanked me over and again as he rediscovers his joy of 'mucking about with planes'. ( His own hand-build, L360, was destroyed in a cyclone when the hanger doors blew in and crushed the dreams of three good guys all at once.) His lovely wife made me chocolate cookies for morning break as a reward, then brought out the Photo-albums of "When we were young" ; All of the time smiling to break records.
CEO, building a new factory, and building his own house. Mark is incredible. These guys are inspirational and I look forward to the new plane build!
I am a 71 year old gearhead with no flying experience who stumbled onto a video about Draco a couple of years ago and then a couple of months ago found your RUclips channel. I just love your attitude, sharing how and why you’re doing what you do. My son is an A&P with Embraer and I’ve shared your channel with him. Your design and fabrication skills are astounding.
Just listening to you and your brother reminds me of everything that's good in this world thank you.✌
100% agree
Hi Mike, just wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos! Your authenticity and kindness truly makes me smile. I have never flown a plane and to be honest, in general, am pretty terrified of flying, but my passion and interest for aviation is significant! Thanks for producing quality content, and badass airplanes. Keep up the good work!
Whenever I think, “aviation is a waste of money, I don’t fly enough, I don’t have time, etc”, I watch these videos and just go fly. It makes me realize why I got into aviation in the first place .
I'll touch on the "I dont know a pilot" my hobby is snowmobiles I've only sat in a plane at a airshow 18+ years ago never peaked my interest. It's the high energy and amazing fabrication/design that keeps me interested, motivated and wanting to get out in the shop and "back to work" when the videos ends. Keep up the great work.
As a steel, wood & sewing furniture maker, I'm with you. But a Maker is a Maker, no matter the medium. Mike inspired me to think about carbon in my furniture. And has prompted me to join a friend's plane build team in a couple weeks!
Thanks, that’s so cool 👍🤠
Thank you Mike and Mark, for your encouragement. Im a 11yr vet. 34yr old child, just got an interview to start school for my A&P license next march. This will be my stepping stone into aviation.
Love you all.
Great to see Mike and Mark together on your video. I love every aspect of aviation and your videos, bring so much joy to many people in these difficult times. Please keep up the good work from the UK
Great to see Mark! Glad to see he's working on his, airplane once again. I had several questions that you answered; Here's one you didn't. I know,I'm not the only one that's interested here. Q: Can you show us the wings, even if it's on the computer? WE THE PEOPLE ARE CHOMPING AT THE BIT! Love the content here. Back to work!!
Imagine being lost and seeing this monster just loitering your way with those two shiny domes peering at you😂 mad respect🤘🏼
Secret switches summon a self-driving Best Tug to come tow Mike into the heated hanger without having to get out of the airplane.
Mike... gotta thank you for your energy and and the love of aviation. I'm an old disabled man who procrastinated on getting into aviation with the plan of retirement flying. I didn't count on my health being the detourant that it has. I love your enjoyment and innovation of engineering and designing awesome aircraft...i seem to be living vicariously thru you and love your ethics...
Thanks again, Larry
That was fantastic. Eager to see scrappy moving under its own power. Keep it up. Back to work.
Ive helped with search and rescue for most of my life. We’re very rural Alaska. It’s Always so comforting knowing we have pilots helping us look from the air! bsar has been searching for 7 missing people. Sadly all 7 still missing.. us coast guard have called off search. As soon as the ice is thick enough everyone locally will be back out lookin for them again!
Hey Mike, love your builds!!!! I am on the Washington County Search and Rescue here in Northwest Arkansas. I love that you volunteer your time and even more your aircraft to search and rescue. I'd love to see some videos on your SAR experiences. Getting into SAR was something I'd wanted to do for a long time, all it took was finding the right person to learn how easy it was to get into. I know there are many people who would love to get in to SAR and just seeing how EASY it is to get in to would inspire many to join. So that others may live!!!! Thanks Mike!!!
Good to see you and Mark together. I’m also glad the tug business is growing so much. If you have to have something slow down your Carbon Cub build (Mark), that’s a pretty darn good reason.
I like how Mark does a good job of keeping Mike on topic... Also, it would be funny to me if Scrappy had similar performance specs to a factory spec Carbon Cub.
this is the best video ever!!! How can someone not like this video is beyond me. THANK YOU for your enthusiasm and wisdom. I cannot thank you enough for your inspiration. that being said...BACK TO WORK!!! YOU GUYS ARE THE GREATEST!!!! (and so are your families for putting up with your "hobbies") Luv ya
I have been involved in aviation for over 30 years and you guys are such an inspiration to me and many others!! Watching your videos motivates me to do more and help others! Thank you for all you guys do for our aviation family!!!
I stumbled on your videos awhile back and thought they were interesting, I'm not a pilot of any kind, just an ordinary guy, But I'm very much enjoying the videos and the build of scrappy, I'm anxious to see it finally fly..
I have flown on commercial airlines many times, but your Planes are much much different, they remind me of the Coyote in Roadrunner strapping himself to a rocket.. That, I think is Cool..
I love the fact you never stop thinking about making things better in Every way, Not just for, But Everyone. Safety. Saving lives.
You're Awesome dude. Thanks
I am in civil air patrol and I am hoping to continue my life with some sort of aviation related hobbies or career. I hope to be just like you, building awesome planes, and also being down right awesome! Keep up the great work, whenever you post it makes my school days a whole lot less miserable. Scrappy looks great so far too!
Fantastic video! I’m not a pilot and may never be, but the passion, creativity, engineering and technical aspects of all of your projects is simply fascinating. I think I’ve watched nearly all of your videos. I’m always impressed and inspired by your positivity, enthusiasm and love of family and aviation. Keep up the amazing videos and the wonderful things you do for aviation and engineering.
Yet another great video, I could listen to you and Mark talk forever. I don’t know where you both find the time and energy. Keep up the great work!
Good to see the brothers interact... Great aptitudes and demeanors. Bros...
Mike, I live through your inventions. Taking the normal and going completely beyond. Thank you for sharing.
Mark you are a humble and patient brother. This video makes it obvious. You are a good man and you all are good people.
How in the hell could anyone give these guys a thumbs down. Both stellar human beings, and willing to help in a extremely unselfish manner. I wish there were a million people like these guys. Thank you gentlemen for all you do.
Honestly two of the best guys and I love watching your videos. It was such a pleasure to actually meet you last year at Reno before Draco's fateful flight. Can't wait to see scrappy fly .
Great seeing you and Mark together in this Q & A! Beautiful plane.
We all love you both ... and your five year old self, Mike. Can't wait to see Scrappy fly!
Aging is mandatory, growing up is not! Keep going Mike.
I'm going to use that one if you don't mind. 👍
Growing old is unavoidable, growing up is not! Just a variation that I use. I like the way you think Brian!
Owe my life to Garmin, got me out of a tough operation in Afghanistan.
Our hero's!! Mike and Mark Patey inspiring us all to do better. Try harder. Be smarter. And go for your dreams! Thanks!
Mike I can’t tell you how many times I have watched and re-Watched Draco and scrappy builds.... I take all of what you say and show then I research and make more changes and adjustments to my Plane. Next time I am through your area I’m going to stop by and give you another donation to take someone FLYING!!
Can't wait to see her fly. My long standing suspicion about Mike doing a live valve suspension in Scrappy is still alive. ( "secrets" blurred controls) I think Mike is the guy who will do it. It sure as heck works in the off road world.
...are you aware of Mike's off road background prior to getting into flying? Your off road connection idea is no real stretch! It certainly stays interesting!!
Gosh darn; you guys are so much fun. Can't wait to see you landing on those high glacier lakes.
So awesome! I would wear my scrappy t-shirt at work (Piper) but we have "uniform" t-shirts. I tell everyone I know at work who will listen about your efforts. Keep it up! I mean , BACK TO WORK!
Thanks for answering my question about mass production. I figured you never would, but it's innovation like this that tends to find it's way into the larger marketplace. Like changing control cables to carbon fiber, etc.
Love it. No plane on the planet will come close to how well built scrappy is. You cant beat self built. It's a pilots plane.. all the bells and whistles.
Congrats Mike! Just a thought...When your done with Scrappy. You should do a budget build of a kitfox or J-A. step by step. Use an auto conversion power plant like a Viking engine. Low cost with decent reliable performance for half the cost of a rotax. ...2 screen set up ( Garmin + ipad ) The only thing you should do custom is a suspension. Something that could be replicated or sold by you lol.. Scrappy is amazing.
For SAR, think about adding a sensor ball to add to your visual scan. Multiple balls and additional bandwidth give an option to have a virtual scanner/observer crew along. Safe flying.
It is always a GREAT DAY when Mike uploads a RUclips video!!!
Enthusiasm is contagious: in aviation terms, Uplifting. Grab that airflow! Then spread it to everyone you meet. Overwhelm mundanity with excitement.
Words fail me. Mike Patel and his brother Mark are the best aircraft engineers I’ve ever seen. This video is worth keeping just for the energy it exudes.
These videos have literally led me to becoming a pilot Mike... I’ve been flying RC aircraft since I was 7, am now training for my pilots license with every extra dollar I have, and to this day, continue to modify perfectly good RC planes to make them “even better” than they are haha! Don’t ever stop putting these videos out, it’s UNREAL how many people you inspire every single day...
Thanks Mike & Mark... Great update on Scrappy and your combined passion for aviation. Almost 20 years ago I had a very bad experience with my flight instructor and just walked away from my passion. Now at 76 I really want to get my private pilot license. I have a dream to purchase a Helio Courier, figure that it can fly slow enough to make decent landings. After that acquisition load it up with Garmin stuff, modify the landing gear, install a great comfortable interior and then enjoy mountain flying in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Also fly to Spanish Forks to get my Best Tug. Thanks again for all your inspiration.
I just love the thrill it gives you and Mark. I flew in a plane once in my teen years and loved it now I am 69 and love watching you and family. So please keep getting back to work LOL
I get Goose Bumps now every time I see how far along Scrappy is ........Howard Hughs is smiling about Scrappy...... with the rest of us.....ok Back To Work. 💪
Im on the East coast Mike drops these videos at bed time but I cant resist and its always worth it ! I have been flying and building for 40 years and these videos are always educational and as a pilot I can tell you when you stop learning you start dying .
You guys are awesome.... hate waiting for your videos...... could watch them every day... keep kicking Ass
Thank you and your brother for sharing your lives and this build with your viewers. I am amazed at the speed or your progress.
What a privilege to be able to see you at work. Excellent work, Garmin!
Awesome video Mike and Mark Patey, you answered a lot of my questions and thoughts lingering in the back of my mind. Excellent, thanks for sharing.
Just love the good energy this gentleman has.
Your such a good general speaker man. Makes listening to your information better somehow.
Garmin, "So how many screens do you want" Mike, "Yes!"
23:05 That's me. Not a pilot, but wish I could. I loved following Draco, and I watch EVERY Scrappy video.
Fun trip down memory lane. I watched this live when it aired. But I think I’m going to have to go back and watch all the scrappy videos from the beginning again. Love your content. From another pilot you encouraged to get current. And let my inner five-year-old out. Thanks Mike! Back to work.
This was fun to watch. Mark, I have wondered about your aircraft. I am glad to hear you now have time to focus on it. Bring us along for the build, please.
Thank you Mike. My Kit Fox now has a dual G3X Garmin Panel . . . With the G5 and it’s independent backup battery. You are truly an inspiration to us all.
Just say'n....One of the best 'up-grades' on this vid....the teeny-tiny clip-on mic Garmin provided so everyone could hear the praise and drool at the quality of the build AND the equipment used.
Stay well...be safe.
BTW.....19:01.....that was no iPhone camera...😂
I used to be a design manager in a big toy company, you know, the one that makes those bricks that hurt like hell when you step on them in the middle of the night and you wake up the house with your Tarzan yodeling? Ok, that mind-set of "what would a 5-year-old build?" kept us going and that was how we looked at the world! ... Never, EVER lose that mind-set. A playful look at the world is one of the most important ways of coming up with new ideas that make a difference!
I am also one of the people that you mentioned were not pilots. I stumbled on Draco a while back and began watching your video's. I was so sad when you crashed it! Then I started watching other channels and fell in love with the back country bush plane idea. I've never been in a plane to be honest outside a commercial jet. I would love to someday and I'm sure eventually will. I don't have the budget to get a pilots license and probably won't for years, so for now I started saving for a Carbon Cub RC plane. Sounds silly I'm sure but I've got an itch now that needs scratching lol Love you videos, farm kid so I also enjoy watching the mechanical engineering side. You have a very positive attitude which I love. I hope someday I can go for a ride in a bush plane and maybe someday afford to become a pilot.
Get that thing flying. More Videos no matter what. You inspire me.
Matt
Mike, I haven’t found your explanation of the flex hoses to the main gear suspension struts. My best guess is that you have a single ground/flight adjustable regulator valve, with a smaller high pressure nitrogen bottle tucked away “somewhere?” to adjust for different landing surface conditions. Am I even close on this? I love your whole approach to all that you do, whether it’s aeronautical, family, or other areas of our humanity while we are here on this earth. I even had to buy an RC model airplane to get myself “back into the sky.” And now the RC club wants me to give them a presentation about my 7 years working on the 1st and 2nd stages of the Saturn V rocket!
And right when im fixing to sleep theres a mike video... fine ill watch
Same here... I was just getting ready to sign off and... damn...
Same bro. Gonna be a rough morning :)
me too ! they keep doing it , its 11.05 , bed time is 11 ,and a patty vid pops up !. now its jolly 1 am , darn you mike how can we resist a scrapy update , God bless , and absolutely do something good for someone , you get a bigger buzz than buying any new toy .
This might be your best video to date.
Keep doing what you're doing!
I always end up with a big smile when I watch one of your videos.
I've probably already mentioned this on a previous video, but this series is definitely a significant part of what got me into aviation. I'm currently learning to fly, ultimately working towards being an airline pilot.
So uh, thanks. :-)
Great build great guys great channel thanks for sharing and having us along cheers
Thank you Mike & Mark. Huge Thanks to Garmin as well. Tremendous numbers of Garmin products, hand held GPS units & the like have gone over seas that past 18 years to US MIlitary war fighters to aid them in taking the fight to our enemies and in aiding them in make it back home to families.
Hi Mike !!! I came accross this video randomly and i must say, your passion and dedication is beyond this world ! I'm not even into aviation or planes, but still, i got hooked to the point i HAD to entirely listen to it. You guys are just like 2 kids in a toy store ! Very communicative enthousiasm ! Cheers from Québec !
Welcome to the channel! A good share of the viewers here aren’t av-geeks either, so you fit right in, just here to build cool stuff. 🤠
Thank you too you and your family for making aviation safer and way cooler 🤠
Im definitely one of the guys that saw your content and went head first into a pilots lisence. Draco inspired me for sure, im working on getting a kitfox and a runway put in on some farmland!
Appreciate you bigtime!
i am by no means a flight guy and this has been an amazing series that i can't get enough of because it relates to everyday problem solving and creativity, thanks!
Love watching you guys work and the Q&A was fantastic and what was even more satisfying to me was I actually answered the question on rear travel at landing @13 inches before you did it so I was really paying attention and the 21 on the front I can’t believe I remember that but anyway I never have flown a plane in my life but after watching you I think I can at 63 yrs old I want to get my pilot license go figure I’ve driven everything else it seems so
why not thanx Mike 💪
Thanks Mike, I am not a airplane guy but have subscribed to your channel a few months ago out of pure interest and fascination with your drive, ingenuity, creativity and superbly well done documentation on creating ( not just building ) this aircraft. I am more a car guy and following Christian Von Koenigsegg whom has creates the most stunning and fastest production cars in the world. Every time something breaks or fails a solution comes forward to make it better. Thanks for sharing your passion Mike!
Scrappy, being RATO ready... maybe for those high glacial lakes? Just don't forget to get video!!! :)
You guys are two of the most wonderful, inspiring people I know. This was a very interesting, entertaining and informative video and I do hope Mark will post some videos of his build for us to enjoy.
Mike is one brilliant five year old with the energy of a herd of preschoolers! It's fun to see just how far these guys can push their aviation creativity. It appears to be limitless.
Mike as non pilot this is still great entertainment very entertaining guys what fun you have!
You guys rock! Enjoying this project so much, along with you...thanks for sharing!
Mike gave part of the secret up earlier.... I like his plan... I am waiting to see how the system ties into front suspension....
I am a kid AGAIN! ❤️ Mike, you really keep our dreams alive. Thank you!
I enjoy watching both of you, what incredible build quality for an airplane, scrappy is looking great I love the whole thing and you are definitely the Howard Hughes of the aviation world in the way I see it congrats on the build and finishing it.
Always good the see the Patey brothers together.
I am part of search in rescue here in Canada. Thank you so much for doing searches. I honestly look up to you so much, I hope one day I can be a shop assistant for you so I can learn and perhaps one day build my own aircraft. I have been following you since your first Draco build video. Big fan from the Sunshine Coast, Canada. If you ever need someone to hold tools and get yelled I would be honored.
Thank you both for rekindling my love of flying. I am 83 and have been put of full size flying for several years. I found your show by accident and love it. I think I may start with an ultra lite but who knows a 7AC would be nice also.
Anyway thanks for building the fire again
R. E. Carroll

Watching your video documentaries of your build, inspires me to get out to the hangar and continue with my build. Cheers from Winnipeg.
Great stuff! 19:05 "That's not Like you" 😜 JATO? Mike just doesn't think outside the box, he has no idea a box exists!
I have so much respect for the Twins and their family. As a fellow engineer and just as a person. Keep up the killer work and give people something to aim for!
Thanks for the clip of BA09 brought back some good memories, and yea would look pretty cool on Scrappy...and you would have zero trouble getting off that lake lol
Do more they're fun, you two are both really bright and funny, nice combination.
MIKE !! Great Work.
Would it be possible, later on, to dedicate a vid to the Flight Test phase for Scrappy ?
Cannot wait to see the Wing Build.
Great seeing so much of Mark!
Love listening to you guys talk aviation 👍👍👍
Congrats to both of you, two heads are better than one, you two have proven that. With your innovative thinking and ideas and the ability to make those things come to life are inspiring to all who are pilots and the landlubbers who are not, really spark an interest in things we would not have thought possible. I personally have enjoyed watching you both on YOU TUBE and are always anxiously awaiting your next episodes...Thanks for sharing with us and always be safe !
Thank you for the great videos, I am not an aviation nut but I love engineering and challenging convention. Even your "blanking plate" being on a major structural member seems to have mad possibilities, maybe for S+R a big ground facing search light and a facility to drop some sort of first aid pod with a GPS beacon? The Thunderbird 2 of bush planes.
