2:03:13 With regards to this moment, if anyone notices Reno is quite absent in Rebirth, Keiji Fujiwara, Reno's Japanese VA, died shortly after the release of Remake. It was too late to recast the role for Rebirth. So, they worked around his absence by reusing his lines wherever they could.
Fujiwara was a prolific voice actor, so any work where he played a prominent role (e.g. Eureka Seven, which Bones keeps making remakes for some reason) had to either write out the character or cast someone else.
The blue Sea Salt ice cream is in memory of the Japanese VA for Reno who also voiced a similarly popular character in Kingdom Hearts whose favorite flavor was the blue Sea Salt ice cream. Rude mentions he misses Reno around the time Elena asks to be brought ice cream while away on her desert mission... And interestingly enough Elena's Japanese VA also voices a popular Kingdom Hearts character, so her with his character's favorite ice cream is quite the fitting nod to his memory/voicing the characters~
2:49:45 is such a tragic moment. Dyne made terrible decisions and then laid them on Barrett’s chest (literally,) when all Barrett wanted was what was best for North Corel, and Marlene. Dyne took the classic “nothing is my fault, so I’ll blame my best friend,” villain arc. I really love the amount of depth there is to it though, it’s more than an archetype. The number of parallels in this series is awesome. Barrett is such a good character, and Mr. Bentley did an amazing job. That man deserves an award. On a tangentially related note; I’m glad they didn’t do what they did in the OG, but this still feels as tragic, if not more.
2:20:16 Dyne's "hey" here is so oddly goofy sounding that I'm convinced it's a low-key Easter egg to "hmph.. old man!!" from the flashback in og ff7. Edit: side observation - mayor is apparantly the most lethal civilian job in terms of mortality rate
2:04:35 🤨 Did I hear that right? Brianna just called Piko a 'strong and Intelligent bird'? She said something nice about Piko. OH NO! We're in Bizzaro world people! Sephiroth is Superman, Tifa is a pro wrestler and Cloud is a Chimera!
It reminds me of the puns done by the character Teddie(Kuma in Japanese) from Persona 4, which is funny because his Japanese voice actor did Red XIII in Remake and Rebirth.
I love this game so much. Final Fantasy VII was so important to me, and it has been an absolute privilege to see the characters and story I love come to life in a new way. It's so much more than just a game...the characters are raw and real, going through so many complicated emotions and situations in life. That's why it's so relatable for people.
I think this is a good focal point when it comes to Barrett's character showing a lot more emotion in this game. The past events caught up and set a whole range of emotions off. I remember John said his emotion during the scene came from his dad. And you're right Briana that a scene like that can really tie into something that you've went through with a loved one.
Dyne is what Barret almost became. Since we met Barret he was about halfway down that path, it was only Marlene and later the friends he made at Avalanche that prevented him from going over the edge. Dyne is certainly a villain, he murdered innocent people, but he is also a cautionary tale of what Barret could have become.
I absolutely agree. Barret and Dyne are both ends of the spectrum when it comes to surviving traumatic events. Barret did not let the cruelty of what happened make him cruel too, in the way Dyne did. But you also understand why Dyne did what he did. It doesn't justify it, it just explains what led him down such a dark and self-destructive path.
@@rokuwhitefox much of what Dyne says to Barret is true. He personally chose Shinra over his best friend. He took Marlene without going back to look for him. On pure intentions thinking he was already dead, sure, but intentions aside those are the facts of the events. As stated, it could have been either of them, Barret going mad over Myrna was death, etc. Barret had real friends, Dyne had swindlers & criminals.
I love OG FF7, and played it so many times, played FF7 remake which I loved the Aerith voice acting, however still not played rebirth due to so many saying the game is harder and I really struggled on the demo even against mobs whilst being fairly comfortable playing the Remake part 1 on hard. I will play rebirth eventually though.
I think it's harder because there are more playable characters who each have a different fighting-style, and then having the Synergy System on top of that. You'd probably get used to the fighting eventually, at least that's how it was for me. There's always easy-mode as well if you just wanna enjoy the game and story without getting too much of a challenge 😄
Emotional up and down stream had the up and fun with Chocobo race then into the emotional heavy parts with Barret and Dyne John Bentley and Dave Mitchell both did a phenomenal job as did the writers and directors the whole exchange between and Barret and Dyne breaks my heart. Thanks for the stream Bri!
Tip: Especially for boss fights.. once the enemy is been pressured use the focus thrust(Cloud)/ focus shot, bonus round(Barret)/ focus strike(Tifa) right away to fill their gauge faster and stagger them more easily.
(2:52:55) What you said here, Briana is why I keep watching your streams. I relate to your way of commenting which is the main reason why I don't comment anything on your chat
2:49:55 ❤❤ we definitely all understand. That part is so 💔💔 and hearing what John said about the inspiration for that vocal performance makes it that much more sad
I do agree with your commentary after Dyne, like they never let heavy scenes breathe enough. But at the same time, it's kind of realistic here in that you know, they were being pursued. Like they DONT care that Barret just went thru a traumatic moment.
2:49:45 - I wasn't prepared for how they'd do that part either, and it broke me. This was the one scene I was looking forward to you getting to the most. It's very heartbreaking, much more so than the original. It left an impression on me, and one I'll never forget.
🤣 Bri, don't feel bad. You're not alone lol I knew what was happening since I played the game before, was still a crying mess watching this and was still like "lol dyne be dyin"
Dyne's storyline was the part I was most looking forward to when I was waiting for Rebirth to come out. Square Enix delivered of course. Also whoever did the voice of Dyne, you scared me and you made me sad. Good job
i just noticed, it's cute how the 2 zerith arts are about ice cream xD 🤔but it seems like zerith fans are not too keen about sharing their fanart here despite having many out there… 🧐
I'm not sure why, but I love that while the Barret and Dyne scene is making you emotional, there's also a corner of your brain that's making dad jokes. Let's hear it for John Bentley, he absolutely nailed Barret to the point where I cannot imagine anyone else in the role. And I agree, effing rude of Shinra to bring two more boss fights right after the scene with Dyne. ("Give them a moment, for pity's sake!" "By nightfall, this desert will be swarming with Shinra!") I couldn't tell you how many times I played the original FF7 and acted out the scene in my head when I found Dyne in Corel Prison, and while the mutant gun arm thing is out of left field for me, Square Enix basically put on screen what was in my head ~20 years ago. Dyne, sure, he's a murderer. But we don't know his state of mind when he pulled the trigger, whether he was shooting people out of depravity or delusion. There's also the possibility of untreated PTSD and traumatic brain injury. And instead of jumping off a cliff like in the original FF7, he took several bullets so his old friend Barret wouldn't get shot by Shinra soldiers. If I were his attorney I would fight tooth and nail for an insanity plea. (I'm neither a doctor nor a lawyer, so this is neither a diagnosis nor legal advice) Definitely a tragic character, definitely wouldn't be gunning people down if it weren't for Shinra and Scarlett, but I'm not so sure about villain. I see someone who was quite literally crushed by an abusive corporation, and is blindly trying to fight back even though he's lost his marbles. Cold corporate apathy's one thing, abuses by "private security contractors" is another, but Scarlett is likely one of those people with the "dark triad" personality traits of narcissism, Machiavellianism, and psychopathy, and she's a sadist on top of that. She is someone who absolutely must never be in a position of power, because _gestures at the screen_ that stuff happens. Also why businesses shouldn't have "private security" the size of a country's military.
Ok now I can resume my binge watching. Hopefully she finished the game or is close to the end by now. 😅 But I'm enjoying the playthrough either way lol. Love your personality, commentary and jokes. Yes even the cringe ones. 😜
The Test 0 enemy is a beta test moster in the original jpn version with a very small chance to appear in the well. It got removed for the International release since the game was complete and with more time with development between the original release to the finalized release
Here's a question I can't help but wonder. Who's clouds dad?. Imagine if it turned out Sephiroth somehow was either involved or could possibly even be clouds biological father. Doesn't necessarily mean he even met clouds mother but.... Yeah. Mind f right? I could get into greater details about my idea, but I want everyone to come up with ideas
You also mentioned it during the final Crisis Core stream: even when you know what's coming, what's about to happen, it still doesn't prepare you fully for the emotional gut punch of the moment, especially with John Bentley absolutely leaving it ALL on the field / in the booth (so to speak). Incredible job by him, along with the writers and director. While I was initially apprehensive about them going a different direction when it came to Dyne's final moments, it really served the story better, and magnified Barret's struggle with guilt and loss 😢 Square Enix gotta give us some time to process before dropping a giant Kermit on us 😅 Thanks for the stream, Bri! Looking forward to you finishing the rest of the game! Don't worry, it's not like it's halfway through October already. Pleeenty of time 😂
With regards to your "one liners" during the Dyne fight, please don't beat yourself up. Some of us just have a release valve where we think up something funny or stupid to say if we're in a state of heightened emotional response.
A villain? No. Dyne is a victim of circumstance, of Shinra's greed and cruelty. Whatever he became after was a result of those terrible circumstances. To view him a simply a villain is i think very wrong. He did terrible things, but like an invisible hand in his back, Shinra was the real culprit.
Joined last minute, cant wait for more gameplay! Also voted for the joystick awards and voted everything for ff7r, not biased 😬 but its definitely my goty even if it doesnt win. There were some choices though that i had questions on, was suprised stellar blade didnt get nominated though

“He’s won’t make it, he’s Dyne”
“I just can’t Barret anymore!”
Seriously Briana 😂
Damn. Looooooolllllll😂😂
The Barret and Dyne scene is hard to watch each and every time. The voice actors really went above and beyond. 👋👋🙌🙌✨✨🌠🌠👏👏
