Hello Martyn fancy seeing you ‘here’ 😂 indeed as you say a truly unique style of playing - those characteristic dropped 10ths for example - always amazes me how short his tracks are - usually 2-2’30 and am always disappointed when they end!! All the best. G
Yes Gareth it's amazing who you meet at funerals! His unique style was not strictly stride piano in the same sense as Harlem Stride in the US, I prefer to think of it as British Stride! Whatever it was, it was a lot of fun. Best ....M 😄
I still have China Tea, the first record i ever bought as a 9 Year old boy, now I am 74 and I'm feeling very Nostalgic😢!
My mum loved russ Conway..still got one of his records
I am Italian, and I discovered this pianist a few years ago, listening to one of his 45s recorded during the years of the COLUMBIA label.
Russ had great style....very influential to young pianists in his day...RIP
RIck Wakeman cited Conway as a huge influence.
Thanks Richard.
Thank you Russ
Thank you for posting this.
brilliant piano player, no one yet to match him.
Great pianist, composer and all-round entertainer. I keep trying to copy his style which was rather unique. He will influence many for years to come.
