If a detour could be made around the motorway(which is quite possible) there would be no issues reopening to Watlington from Chinnor via Aston Rowant. Would be great to save this iconic branch line in full.

Correction: Beeching never cut anything - he was employed by Marples to make the hard decisions that Government of the day did not understand (not a lot has changed in 70 years!). Following on, the next station to Watlington ought to have been Wallingford, but if they had joined the lines up it would have gone straight through my school classroom - which might have annoyed the hell out of my teacher.
One carriage on each line, and one 1400 tankie - no wonder there was no revenue. I rode the Wallingford 'end' every day on my way home - out to Cholsey, and then across the downs to Compton on my bike - could have gone via Didcot and the 'Gold Coast', but my way was quicker! Oh gosh - what very long time ago it all was.

Amazing that the station building has deteriorated so much, but the corrugated iron carriage shed seems to be more intact

I remember the primary school head, Mr Walsh, had a recording of the last train leaving.

Ha, he played it to our class in probably 1961! when I was eleven. There were detonators on the line I remember, it was a vinyl recording.

Hi there, excellent video! I’ve always wondered how the site of the station looked from above, it’s a shame it’s in the state it is now. Have you visited Chinnor at all? A new build station building identical to the specs of Watlington’s an excellent recreation. I appreciate that part of Watlington being kept alive in that respect

Thanks James. I have visited Chinnor as I am nearby.
It would be lovely if they would extend the line back to Watlington one day.
I think it would be a good thing for the area!

@@lambosious729 It would indeed be lovely, if only the trackbed wasn’t covered by the B4009. I think there’s additional concerns regarding revenue and gaining the land back. In an ideal world it I’m sure the power and resources would be there to restore it to its heyday condition

it’s illegal to fly a drone so close power lines, not a safe idea either.

      Thanks for the update 👍🏻
The drone is not dangerously close to the power lines.
The law states that drones should be kept at a ‘safe’ distance, I assessed the situation prior and was well aware they were there. It may appear on the video that they are close but actually they are further away than you think.
