I don’t think it looks goofy, I just think it’s kinda stilted. It’s clear that the characters were animated to move realistically, but it being animated and not live action, it just looks off. Because animation is meant to look animated, not realistic.
You have certainly have come a long way to being a great artist and also as proudly as being a Bendy fan. I hope this journey would redeem a lot of us, and you of course, to become alot better in the future. Props to you!
In the video: Alice pulls the boards free, Henry joins them, and they are a team. In game: Henry gets the mean look from Tom, gets abandoned (even though Tom is clearly holding an axe), breaks out his cell using a pipe, runs for his life, gets a boat, about gets crushed by a giant hand several times while trying to be the maintenance man and the captain on his boat at the same time, about gets cleaved in half by Sammy while beating him with a pipe, gets saved, battles a crap load of ink creatures, safe for a couple seconds before falling off a cliff. I have to say, this video made things look better for Henry. He probably wishes things went that way.
I feel like the song, while not the worst, certainly isn't your best, expecialy with it supposedly being your last bendy song. It just feels really empty and repetitive in comparison to something like bendy land. Had there maybe been more in either the form of more diverse lyrics or maybe just a little segment for alice and boris I'd probably enjoy the song a lot more, but like I said, not the worst. Now as for the animation. I gotta say, with how long joe had to make this, the over use of mocap is a huge let down. Mocap is best used as either a reference for complicated movements, or background characters, and while the lighting, editing, and whatever hand done movement was involved was good, it still doesn't change the fact that using mocap as the main method of animating a character is incredibly sloppy and distracting. With something like Thanos in the MCU, mocap works because it's used in a realistic setting. It still allows the actor to act and it gives the animators a base for how the character should move, in something like a bendy animation, they are cartoon characters and should be animated by hand with smoother more exaggerated movements, not given these realistic, human like animations. As for henry, while he is a human he still should've been done by hand, maybe as I said before he could've used mocap for reference or something, but using it in the way it was used in this video is just insulting to the people who spend hours, days, or even weeks hand animating a shot with advanced movements and there were almost none of those if any in this video. I could understand using mocap for more advanced stuff like doing a roll, jumping, etc, but there was really only basic stuff like walking, running, painting, pulling some planks down. Look, I'm not trying to make anyone upset by doing this, I only want people to improve, but the fact that most of my friends including myself could animate something like this in like a month or 2 by hand just leaves me disappointed.
This is the type of feedback I'm looking for. I greatly appreciate comments like this and I'll use it to improve in the future. Thank you for being level headed and professional. I'm greatly sorry you were let down with this song and hopefully in the future I can improve my skills even greater than before. As for the animation, again thank you for delivering such quality feedback. I think I agree that maybe motion cap was overused a bit but this is something I can change in the future. I'll aim to eliminate all motion capturing for future music videos. I hope you can stick around for the next one.
