- "During a long campaign, could she blow up and help whoever in the membership will be competing against her."
Whispers from the Tory party suggest Kemi Badenoch is the frontrunner for leader however some Conservatives find her approach "abrasive", says the Spectator's political editor Katy Balls.

Kemi Badenoch is the kind of person who looks in a mirror and then explains to the mirror why it's wrong
Yes, her strength of character is impressive. Just what we need after the state of the country following many centrist wet leaders.
She isn't abrasive - she is just bloody rude, and usually unecesarily so.
What did she say that was rude?
Just one example. One example of her being rude.
Who gives a toss ? If she’s competent, a true low tax, small government conservative and does what it says on the tin policy wise SHE’S A DAMNED GOOD CHOICE !!!
@@lawsonspedding6136 But if she's not competent? And if she's been defending a government which has raised taxes to record highs? And if she just spouts nonsense in general? All of those seem to apply.
But even if she had all of those - let's call them qualities - that you're looking for, she'd still be a bad choice if she antagonises her colleagues (as Badenoch clearly does). The new leader needs to create an united front and I'm not sure even Badenoch's closest friends would suggest that's remotely in her skillset.
@@lesigh1749 Condescended the Speaker of the House, with a patronising comment to deflect from the fact she briefed the press (her friends) before Parliament that she is mandated to do as a Secretary of State. Thought it 'funny' that she hacked Harman's MP web site and altered it, the fact that she was an elected representative in Parliament and in his Magesty's Official Opposition was unimportant! Arrogance on sterroids!
The race to the bottom for the Tory leadership race begins
I've said it many times before that it doesn't matter who the next Tory leader is, the next Tory Prime Minister is not even an MP yet!
It may be that the next Tory PM has yet to be born.
@@brianmacadam4793With any luck 😂😂
But she is delusional and incompetent. That's how low the party i used to support (many years ago) have sunk.
Why has the Tories gone into kamikaze mode, Badenoch would be the final nail in their coffin.
No way . None of these people would fit the bill. This would be the end of Tories.
Agreed.
GOOD
Here's hoping!!!
Don't forget that whoever wins the party leadership will not necessarily stand for election, in 2029. Their role will be of a caretaker and mender. As such, candidates like Tugendhat, Cleverly or Hunt (if he stands) would be more than sufficient.
Theyre done anyway ..Reform UK are genuine consrvatives
as the senior tory quoted in the Times recently said, "Badenoch could start a fight in an empty room"
What kind of person wants to become the second captain of the Titanic, though.
No. She's definitely not got Leadership Qualities...
Looking at her and worse still listening to her, one wonders if anyone in that party has a grain of sense. She is almost as bad as Braverman.
The investigation into her abusive treatment of staff in a few years will be interesting to watch.
Civil servants who don't do as their boss instructs aren't abused when they get backlash.
@@lesigh1749 That very much depends what that backlash involves. It certainly can rise to the level of abuse, and recent Cabinets have been full of ministers who don't have the vaguest idea of where that line is drawn.
@@chrispalmer7893 no, it really doesnt depend at all. Civil servants in the home office and immigration especially have a long track record of swooning and fanning themselves whenever spoken to harshly as they engage in a deliberate campaign of subverting their orders because they don't personally agree with them. They don't get treated harshly enough, because step one should be sacking on the spot and step two should be investigation for criminal prosecution.
Badenoch was not their first rodeo at utterly ignoring and undermining a minister of the crown to do as they pleased.
just makes her easy to deal with Labour would love her to lead the tories, and thats the question who do the labour party not want to lead the tories and to be honest theres noone they fear right now

Then it is highly unlikely you would figure it out & make the relevant changes !!!
🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦🤦
The next Tory prime minister is in primary school.
What a choice, gonna be a long time out of power.
Parties have a finite life, after which they can't be rehabilitated. Perhaps it's time for the Conservatives to go the way of the SDP or the Whigs. Reform will make a better job of the centre right.
Such a lot of air time being given over to these political failures. Whoever wins this grubby little competition, the Conservatives are a spent force. And the longer that lasts, the better it will be for the country.
Whoever gets the job, they won’t be the next PM. Just a caretaker.
The Real Conservative Party went after John Major
Thats all she done while sitting on the front benches was nodding at all the Questions while smirking and grinning, if that’s the best they have to offer no better than the last 4 that had been leader, 🙃
Kemi Badenoch can be unbelievably rude and arrogant during interviews. There will need to be some very strong journalists taking her on.
I don't think Britain needs someone who's sensitive to journalists do you!? I think we need someone with vision and the guts to get that vision delivered. We've had way too much PR in the last few years and no action.
Good.
@@ChristopherDowning She is brittle. She will collapse under proper scrutiny.
Uncouth!
Watching her sitting in Parliament, rolling her eyes and smirking is really annoying. People are saying she is very rude and dismissive of anybody who goes against her motives

Voting Badenoch will keep the Tories in opposition for the next decade😅😅😅😅
Based on what. Their base wants them to go to the right. If they don’t reform will keep taking votes away. You need a base of support and if you don’t have that your finished
Err, no, the membership aren't going " hang on a minute I elected Lizz Truss". They're going "hang on a minute we favoured Kemi from the beginning and you foisted on us an ultimatum of Truss vs. Sunak, and as Truss is the less an android we chose her "
No quality in British politics. Not one who has the ability to fulfil the role of a PM or leader of the opposition. There is a crisis of quality. God help us
Kemi’s gum is dangerous 😅
This is excellent news, should put the Tories into opposition for a decade at least.
Well as she has only got a small grip on facts - she would be perfect- bit like previous Tories- we will look forward to years of her, with all her vast knowledge and experience, I expect her to start slagging off any party that she hasn’t got her fingers in -
they need a unifying leader and she clearly is not that
No,where are the experienced and mature candidates with deep roots in this land of ours?
Kemi...are you kidding!
My plea to the Conservative Party is NOT to make another deadly mistake.
It's going to take the Tories at least 2 more elections to re-build the party.
The Tory membership is in the Stone Age.
Can't-be Badenough is good news - for the opposition ...
Badenoch you have to be joking
Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch are the British version of Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert. 😂
I see they’re embracing opposition.
Opposition is easy: none of your bad ideas get tested and nothing's your fault. It's very bad news when you spend a long time in opposition, though, as it becomes hard to tell who would actually make a decent minister - as Labour are about to find out.
With the greatest of respect, I don’t think she’s leadership material. She will get attention, certainly, but I suspect the majority of the public won’t want to see her in power.
Great... She will sink this treacherous party forever 😅😊
That thumbnail has put me right off my lunch
If they cant do better than Badenok they are done
Race to the bottom,oh how the tory party has fallen down to this level.
Just when you thought that things could not get any worse than under Sunak......... Looks like Reform is the only way to save the country.
Form worse to bad(enouch)-normally the other way around
Not bad from selling burgers in McD's now a chance of absolutely nothing as leader of the worse government in history 😂😂😂😂
What’s bad about flipping burgers in McDonald’s? Plus to blame Badenoch for what happened in the last government is stretching it.
@@thomashowe1509 Downward spiral from MacD's eh
Didnt the Tories learn their lesson with Liz Truss? Badenough is just as talentless and spews word salad everytime she opens her mouth 😂
If you bother to do any research Badenoch is miles ahead of liz truss on every level.
She represents everything wrong with the Tory Party.
Cool! The last and definitive nail in the Tory coffin.
I honestly don’t see the appeal of Kemi and her educational attainment doesn’t seem to be first rate like Rishi Sunak. I understand that intellectual ability isn’t the only singular trait that makes a good leader but it’s certainly a trait that can immune one from been cognitively dwarfed by individuals in the realm of politics who are titans of the mind
I could t see myself voting for her…
No real actual talent in politics these days is there? . No wonder this country is in a real state. This bunch are as useful as a chocalate teapot.
That’s not true. Some brilliant new Lab and Lib Dem’s have come in. The Tory’s are stagnant tho
Watch the Tory party become a watered down version of the UK reform party.
Have the Conservative Party not learnt anything about "leadership".
Need to think about positioning of the party - what it stands for / vision for the future, before you choose a leader.
I really like her and i am a Labour voter.
Honestly- can we have someone British, please?
No. The Tories are the immigrant party in case you haven't noticed.
Dont worry about being abrasive ,worry about integrity, for delivery if its the truth, is palatable
am looking at this situation ,and if they elect her it would just be to put the first black woman as a Tory leader ,
that would be commendable, to show the thrassing they received ,they are attempting to reshape many things,
Tories dont need to insert a token just to tick diversity boxes , they need to select the best one,red flags .😅
The electorate doesn't care about who's in charge. They care about having a Conservative Party that is actually conservative, which the Tories are not right now. It's why Reform UK was able to absorb so much of their vote share.
That’s true. If Badenoch becomes leader she directly appeals to reform voters in a way that isn’t crazy, but still more right wing that sunak could ever be. She would allow the right of the party to be in charge really for the first time since thatcher. And as much as she says no deal with reform. She knows the Tories could have had at least 240 MPS without them in the race. So it’s in her interests, as she is in pole position right now to court reform.
This is the third Tory propganada piece today. Well known that Tony Gallagher is a Kemi Badenoch supporter and wants to influence the leadership. Now we see how!
All turds! Ha ha, how out of place did the new cabinet look. Like they havnt a clue, which of course they havnt
Installing a new leader is not their issue the issue they have is trying to regain the voters they used and then ignored who will never forgive them for that as they will always see the Tories as untrustworthy and so have moved on to Reform and those that will become disillusioned with Labour eventually will be more inclined to vote from a list of parties where the Tory party will be bottom of the list which is not good considering Count Binface Party will be on that list too
So much DESPERATION to stay RELEVANT!!!! that is the wannabe lost TORIES for you.

Tories need someone intelligent, pragmatic, realistic, who has had a real job in the past running a big profit making organisation who puts the economic health of the nation first. Without a growing, successful, productive economy, everything else cannot be paid for. No country can tax its way to prosperity .
God help us if the best we can do is Starmer and Badenoch. Reform and the Lib Dems will do well, however.
Oof! If she becomes leader of the Conservative party the Tories will have had the first female, ethnic minority and female ethnic minority leader, whilst Labour have stuck to crusty old white men

First Tory leader with gyatt?
When i was young during an election every house displayed a vote for poster, since 1997 this has almost died out, during this election i noticed three, i think this is because many people see Westminster as an alien place, just an observation but if correct it does not bode well.
Ye Gods, Have they not learned any lessons from last thursday ?
I wish her success in her 11 plus.
Kimi is Truss 2.0
This might be the most sensible thing I've heard any Tory say in the last decade or so. Allowing the party members to select the party leader is an utterly insane idea. It is okay for minor parties - with no chance that their choice could ever become PM - but not for the two biggest parties. Party members will always select the most ideologically pure candidate, for example, Liz Truss and Jeremy Corbin. MPs can at least be trusted to put self-interest first so they'll at least try to select someone who may be an effective leader and have some chance of winning an election.
Talk about tone deaf...he is asked a question he doesn't like and so gets stroppy with the interviewer. This is the story of the Tory party over the last 14 years.
There is an arrogance about Bad Enoch that soon becomes apparent. Suella would be a great leader with Kemi as her deputy, discuss.
The problem with having a businessman as a previous Tory science minister and as someone to have on a radio show is that business is about pleasing share-holders and getting customers to *believe* they are getting a good product for good value whether that's true or not. Like socialised medicine, government is about actually delivering good outcomes regardless of the media spin. Business-persons are, arguably, good organisers and good exploiters - yes organising is useful in government, but this business-worship needs to stop. It's baking selfishness, superficiality and profit-above-benefit thinking in politics.
She’s not “livid” she’s chuffed to bits, makes her look like a hard line right wing toughy in front of the hard line right wing Tory membership. This is right up the nasty party street.
The Tories need to get Badenoch in, see how utterly useless she is and get her out again. There isn't a cat in hells chance that the next Tory leader will PM, whoever it is.

If she becomes the leader we will not be returning to the Tory party and will stick with Reform ,
If Kemi had been made leader in 2022, the Tories would have gained a second landslide this year. Kemi is the closest thing the Tories have to a saviour, but I could only have said this with confidence in 2022 -- before the dizzying succession of coups. The sacking of Suella was the last nail in the Tories' coffin. - she and Kemi propped up the Tories for a few precious months.I think it's too late for Kemi to hammer any new ones back in.
Whatever drugs you're on - you really need to stop now.
She probably needs them to lose so she could remake the tories and be leader. I too think if she was elected in 2022, they probs would have won. Labour were polling at 40-50% and ended up with 33.7% which is shocking and speaks to how little the country embraced them. Plus reform out of the picture means 240 seats at a minimum. It’s clear unless something happens she’s going to be leader and that should get most of the right wing back, even if a deal is made with reform.
