I...don't feel so well about this one. There's a lot I can say about it, but I started this a little bit after the deadline for the latest Ponies at Dawn album, so I had about 4 days to work on this, with one of those being me throwing stuff at the wall that just wasn't going anywhere fun. I chose a different, yet familiar approach, and based the instrumentation and feel off of the Hornet theme from Hollow Knight, albeit I'm a bit impatient and haven't done a faster-paced theme battle theme in a while. The light instrumentation is very hard to pull off well because although I have a lot of sound libraries, there are so many timbres I loathe using because I just hear them so often, and there aren't many libraries suited for strong and lush divisi (though Metropolis Ark IV does this well, it's a bit too powerful for a project like this).
I did have fun, though. It was a project I personally don't like all that much, but it was worth the endeavor to find my strong suits and expose my weaknesses as a composer. I do think that with more time, I may have either worked in rubato or found other ways to smooth the transitions further and give the song more atmosphere, but in terms of the melodies and progressions themselves, I feel I did a fine enough job. At least, I hope it's well enough for you all; I don't like falling short of expectations, and I'm already working to strengthen my next song to be more in line with what I should be making.
Other than that, I don't have much to say. I'm still open for commissions, and I'm still gonna be doing pony music for a long time, even if I have some other projects sprinkled in here and there. I'm greatly appreciative of all the support you guys have given me, and I look forward to giving back soon. I shouldn't be rushed on anything any time soon, and I'm eager to make something I can truly feel proud of. Thanks for listening.
I already mentioned that I tried to take a Hollow Knight - Hornet approach to this track, but this actually does tie in to the rest of the Nightmare Moon themes I've made. I've always portrayed Nightmare Moon as a vicious force of nature, but I thought it would be more interesting to depict her as more of an alter ego, with the battle being less physical and more about mental dominance, facing a familiar fear with confidence, but respect of what it once was. I don't really like this song that much, but I've already voiced that opinion enough; I think it was a worthwhile investment of time and I hope to apply what I've learned from it in later works.

lmao I know the feeling. Back when I first got into the fandom one of the reasons was because I wanted to be happeir, and I remembered some advice a doc gave me once. Surround yourself with happy things and cut out the negatives. Definetly helps. Though if it's full blown depression don't be afraid to reach out for help if it feels overwhelming.

Oh dear Radiarc, still so critical of yourself, I see. You're music is truly wonderful, but perhaps that is because you are always striving to be your best, even though you may feel like you are falling short of it. Keep it up, as always. This song was great! So happy to still see fan creators like yourself at work, even if the beloved MLP is no more...

I was wondering. How did u start making music? Where did u learn? What things u use for it?
Back in late 2011, I started by using a program called LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) and I used the sounds that came with it. I didn't learn from anyone in particular, I just kept trying and ended up mostly teaching myself. Around 2013 was when I started using Kontakt instruments, which was great for sound quality, but what I didn't know is that I still had to figure out how each individual sound library worked and how they could potentially be used. The libraries I use are too numerous to name individually, but I primarily use instruments from Spitfire Audio, OrchestralTools, 8dio, ProjectSAM, Heavyocity, and Cinesamples.

Another exceptional piece, from you, but at this point; that's kind of expected. I'm a little sad to hear that you rushed this one, four days just doesn't quiet sound like enough time to really work on a project, but then again, I've heard of people busting out songs in a few hours, so it's not all that bad. If I have the space on me laptop, I'll probably try out Hollow Knight; just need to make the time for it. I've heard nothing but glowing praise for it, and I really want to hear just what kinds of inspiration that game has given for you.
As for the connections to Nightmare Moon, I have also thought of Luna's struggle with her to be more on the internal side; having struggled with some terrible powerful emotions myself, and I really like that idea you brought up; of facing those emotions in a fight over control of oneself.
