Just recently got this in my recommended, I think because I'm getting into folk/native music. Thanking RUclips big time, I loved every minute of it! Didn't know anything about Maori yet, very interesting culture! Love from the Netherlands!
Think about it, you're on a boat, in the middle of the worlds harshest wasteland. It's the middle of the night, only the haunting glow of the heavens reflecting off of drifting glaciers lets you know that anything is there. From the abyss, a strange, haunting music comes. Your captain checks his radar, but there's nothing there. A stealth ship is emitting this music, seemingly out of nowhere, from the night. Wouldn't that be even the slightest bit creepy?
I'm Pakeha New Zealand-born from Tokoroa. I've been living in Australia for a long time. Pretty much all of my parent's friends in NZ were Maori. I was partly raised by Maori. Beautiful people. Just awesome. I choked up watching this.
Thank you for this. I am Maori. Nga pui of the northern Ngati Paroa. I have found spiritual sanctuary amongst the aboriginal community of Canada. In so doing I can occasionally forget my own Mana. Thank you for bringing me home. Back to my people
I've had this song in my playlist for over 15 years I reckon. just googled it and was not disappointed! You guys made my NZ trip epic. A memory never forgotten.
Tiki Taane and Maori performers and band, thanks so much - loved watching this! Brilliant!~ Am sharing with my Native friends here in Canada and back in Aotearoa. Great concept - you have done us proud! :-)
everyone and the stupid remarks about my country who my people came from anyway so Maori greeting is called a hongi so it is not gay so everyone get your facts right
Don't worry about the haters - always looking for the tauiwi sexual instead of the spiritual meaning in things Maori!! Hongi = sharing breath, sharing life!!
I found this years ago after searching for "Maori rock", wondering if such a thing exists...pleasantly surprised! I've been coming back hearing occassionally since. It to me felt like a Māori counterpart to a song in my language that kinda had similiar themes of evoking spiritual strength: "Mentera Semerah Padi" by M. Nasir...
In addition to Alien Weaponry I'd suggest Shepherd's Reign, who are also Polynesian. And Gyibaaw (Tsimshian war metal-- southeast Alaska Native, not Polynesian, but closer to that culturally than the Lower 48 tribes).
I like that sound, which Tki Taane is making with the seashell named conch shell.:). His, and other males performance was prefect. They all did their performance from their clean heart naturally. I can feel their mind-body-soul, was in balance , with the presence of all the spiritually clean things.
This is the side of maori iknow and love. The unspoilt culture before european ways took over, and corrupted the maori people. My mother is maori from central north island. NGATI TUWHARETOA!!!!
+zataraaaaaa I swear!! I swear on the fuck. I was born there, and I'm a woman and have a vagina. unless they've lied to me about where I'm from. in which case, I should still get to fuck :)
yea...it sucks. Coz like there is this golden rule that states that your man has to have bigger balls than you...and i can't find someone with bigger balls....it's so sad...
Matua , if you and marama would be so good as to take the Coombs .. (Coomer) network as often as possible . my mother left it in an absolute mess, And i had just had to throw an entire midterm , to actually decline the emmses access.. There are no ex coo'/qu's/ ku's for good manner , both my grandmothers would be rolling in their graves ..They are our cheftains...
Fair enough. I never said that it was a brilliant idea to tell everyone, just saying that it would, in fact, scare the hell out of you given the listed conditions and assuming that the whalers had no idea.
genius guru it’s the Maori culture of New Zealand aka Atearoa they are very spiritual people who are proud of where they come from and have heart of gold I may not look like one myself but I do have Maori blood and I am proud of it Period
Is it just me, or does that beat sound a bit Indiana Jones? Is Tiki exoticising Maori culture? I mean, that moko robot had a semi-American accent. Also, why do these threads always get so nationalist?
I don't know. Full volume played over and over and over...I might be inclined to go after some bluefin or maybe take up a land job. The music might even scare the whales away...
don't forget your surroundings man. it might not scare me off from a profitable trip, but it would very likely stop me from going back the next year, lmao.
The only thing that would've made this better was if the NZ rugby team had come on stage and scared the sh1t outta every one. I love NZ and I'm Irish :)
only discovered this fella this year, love it different sndz, spiritual, wairua in all his songs reminds me of the band Deep Forest makes me feel ka pai,TINO TOKI KE
Well a lot of the southern pacific cultures have a lot similarities, the same could be said when comparing to the Maori to the Samoans or the Hawaiians for example.
I would be thrilled if they came out with a CD. That song is rockin! Although if I were in the most hostile environment on earth, repeatedly hearing that song would scare the bejesus out of me.
Good stuff. Tiki is awesome. Wouldn't have heard about him without staying in NZ for a year. had a good time there. Stay the way you are KIWIS. have a Steinlager for me. Cheers
I FUCKING LOVE NEW ZEALAND AND THE MAORI WARRORS!
I love the Maori culture, I wish one day I could visit New Zealand and assist to one of the Maori shows. Much love from Canada.

you have done us proud! :-)
Pretty sure the skinny white guy is also part of the band
this should of been the rugby world cup theme song!
Jan Erenstrom no, come on. It’s a culturally valuable music, but it is not very appealing as a musical piece on its own.
@@StopFear yet you understand 0 meanings about it
Kia ora from Indonesia! :D
everyone and the stupid remarks about my country who my people came from anyway so Maori greeting is called a hongi so it is not gay so everyone get your facts right
Why don't you shut up fat mole
And for the record I don't talk to bitches like you so fuck off and leave me alone
It's people being dumb who is saying that. A hongi is the most beautiful soul opening greeting there is.
Omg
Don't worry about the haters - always looking for the tauiwi sexual instead of the spiritual meaning in things Maori!! Hongi = sharing breath, sharing life!!

In addition to Alien Weaponry I'd suggest Shepherd's Reign, who are also Polynesian. And Gyibaaw (Tsimshian war metal-- southeast Alaska Native, not Polynesian, but closer to that culturally than the Lower 48 tribes).
Holy crap that was unexpectedly intense >.

Where was this all my life??!! BRILLIANT
I like that sound, which Tki Taane is making with the seashell named conch shell.:). His, and other males performance was prefect. They all did their performance from their clean heart naturally. I can feel their mind-body-soul, was in balance , with the presence of all the spiritually clean things.

Whats the War song called for intimidation? Its called tāwhirimātea right?
@rizakan So, even if this is a Moderne interpretation of Maori culture,
it is still of intrest to us many outsiders. (of NZ)
@JustJobeMY Karu Pukana
eyes are the window to the soul and maori are a strong proud culture.who arent easily intimidated.
that was cool, they should have sloped the stage or had risers so you could see them better. great show though and song
Warrior family
that is the entire idea of te tino rangitira tanga, and cheftain .stewardship.....by Jan....
It’s good singing. It is the electronic part with modern instruments that is making everything kind of awkward.
please guys dont argue in front the real new zealand you will look like fools.stent road.
At least now this will do something about whaling unlike whale wars were nothings happens

I would be thrilled if they came out with a CD. That song is rockin! Although if I were in the most hostile environment on earth, repeatedly hearing that song would scare the bejesus out of me.
