Wikipedia:
"Madame Tussauds (UK: /tjuːˈsɔːdz/, US: /tuːˈsoʊz/)[1][N. 1] is a wax museum in London; it has smaller museums in a number of other major cities. It was founded by wax sculptor Marie Tussaud. It used to be spelled as "Madame Tussaud's"; the apostrophe is no longer used.[2][3] Madame Tussauds is a major tourist attraction in London, displaying the waxworks of famous and historical figures, as well as popular film and television characters from famous actors.
Background
Marie Tussaud was born as Marie Grosholtz in 1761 in Strasbourg, France. Her mother worked for Philippe Curtius in Bern, Switzerland, who was a physician skilled in wax modeling. Curtius taught Tussaud the art of wax modelling beginning when she was a child. He moved to Paris and took his young apprentice, then only 6 years old, with him.[4]
Grosholtz created her first wax sculpture in 1777 of Voltaire.[5][6] At the age of 17, she became the art tutor to Madame Elizabeth, the sister of King Louis XVI of France, at the Palace of Versailles. During the French Revolution, she was imprisoned for three months and awaiting execution, but was released after the intervention of an influential friend.[4] Other famous people whom she modelled included Jean-Jacques Rousseau and Benjamin Franklin. During the Revolution, she made models of many prominent victims.[7]
Grosholtz inherited Curtius's vast collection of wax models following his death in 1794. For the next 33 years she travelled around Europe with a touring show from the collection. She married Francois Tussaud in 1795 and took his surname. She renamed her show as Madame Tussaud's. In 1802, she accepted an invitation from Paul Philidor, a lantern and phantasmagoria pioneer, to exhibit her work alongside his show at the Lyceum Theatre, London. She did not fare particularly well financially, with Philidor taking half of her profits.
She was unable to return to France because of the Napoleonic Wars, so she traveled throughout Great Britain and Ireland exhibiting her collection. From 1831, she took a series of short leases on the upper floor of "Baker Street Bazaar" (on the west side of Baker Street, Dorset Street, and King Street).[8] This site was later featured in the Druce-Portland case sequence of trials of 1898-1907. This became Tussaud's first permanent home in 1836.
Madame Tussaud's wax museum became a major tourist attraction in London. Until 2010 it incorporated the London Planetarium in its west wing. A large animated dark ride, The Spirit of London, opened in 1993. Today's wax figures at Tussauds include historical and royal figures, film stars, sports stars, and famous murderers. It has been known since 2007 as "Madame Tussauds" museums (no apostrophe).
In July 2008, Madame Tussauds' Berlin branch became embroiled in controversy when a 41-year-old German man brushed past two guards and decapitated a wax figure depicting Adolf Hitler. This was believed to be an act of protest against showing the ruthless dictator alongside sports heroes, movie stars, and other historical figures. The statue has since been repaired, and the perpetrator has admitted that he attacked the statue to win a bet.[20] The original model of Hitler was unveiled in Madame Tussauds London in April 1933; it was frequently vandalised and a 1936 replacement had to be carefully guarded.[21][22][23] In January 2016, the statue of Adolf Hitler was removed from the London museum in response to an open letter sent by a staff writer of The Jewish Journal of Greater Los Angeles, followed by significant support for its removal from social media.[24]
The first Madame Tussauds in India opened in New Delhi on 1 December 2017. Its operator, Merlin Entertainments, planned an investment of 50 million pounds over the next 10 years.[25][26][27] It features over 50 wax models, including political and entertainment figures such as Amitabh Bachchan, Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Sachin Tendulkar, Kim Kardashian, Tom Cruise, Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Angelina Jolie, Asha Bhosle, Kapil Dev, and Mary Kom."
I loved it. I was there with my daughter( 6 years old )and I asked one gentleman to take a pic of us toghether with one statue and he stayed with us in almost whole tour and helped me took our pics. Thanks to him😊
Beautiful princess Diana
I visited Madame Tussauds many years ago, the year that Diana had the accident, and I think that I wasn't allowed to touch anything or my mom was really strict! I don't remember so many people in this place.
*OMG* , for so many years I had the wish to visit Madame Tussauds - I am CURED!!! Thanks for posting this! The noise is unbearable, the people are annoying like hell, they have to touch everything with their dirty hands, UGH. 🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
This place is amazing and awesome. But very noisy and crowned. Freddie Merurey is my fave figure HERE. I am a Queen fan. I feel that there could be alot more figures LIKE Barry Manilow, Rami Malekl, Tom Petty, Just to name a few. Always room for improvement.
11:51 Wow! the GREATEST artist of all time, the KING of music 👑👑👑💖💖💖
Sma fa
MJ the best !👑👑👑💖💖💖
I was expecting one of the waxworks to suddenly come alive, They look so real. Amazing art work.
I guess it is supposed to be more interactive but it seems like chaos.
A member of staff in the chamber of horrors said to me " Keep your mother in law moving please sir, we're stocktaking".
@@andyelliott8027 the old ones are the best
@@beatlebrian4404 They certainly are. I remember the time she fell head first down a wishing well, although to be fair I didn't realise they worked.
My favorite Madame Tussard’s - loved it when I was there.
I ❤️ that wax fixture of the Beatles and Michael Jackson
The noise is unbearable! I have a headache!
Camille Ciampa i put the volume down but still it is noisy.
Me too
Headache to migraine.....sorry....
They put relax music for the customer.
Beautiful! The figures are animated. The other museums look like the way cadavers are prepared here in Puerto Rico. They are stand in the scene of their lives. One was a boxer in the ring, another driving his ambulance, the most impressive riding his motorcycle, an old woman in his rocking chair. But, where are One Direction? They have the most beautiful statues of wax in the world. So real sitting in park benches. I wantes to fell over them, pull their hair and violate them . So delicious to be wax dolls!
We visited 30th August 1997. Me and my brother took lots of photos with the princess Diana waxwork just before the place closed at the end of the day. The next morning we heard she had died, it was eerie getting the photos back after being developed as she was by then dead.
It was amazingly lifelike, better than the old wax museums I've visited in the past. Have always wanted to go to Madam Tussaud's. Thanks for the wonderful video.
Ty for sharing your videos and time with us ALL. I appreciate the beauty in the wax figures. So awesome. Ty again for sharing your videos. HUGS and blessings for ALL from NY State
Beautiful video! I was there in 1979 and now it's really different but more interesting! I like it now!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
I was seriously just waiting for them to move at any second, because they seriously look soooo real! I would just LOVE to visit it one day!
Thank you for posting this video ❤️🙏
Thank you so much for the video. You did such a nice job. I really enjoyed that.
Thank you for putting up this brilliant video
i miss london a lot, one of the best destination.
I was half expecting one of the wax models to say boo. They look so real
I have passed the place quite often on my trip's to London and never been. After watching this i never will. It was mayhem in there and resembled carnage. The noise and clammer around every waxwork for selfies etc drove me mad just watching their antics. What a sad society we have become when all we think about is our social media and next selfie to post for likes.
I went a a child in the early 60's it was great then.
I went to London, with my Aunt! I was only, 13! Love Madam Tausards! Thought it was Brilliant! 🇬🇧
I really thought that Russel Brand was standing there pretending to be a wax dummy and was wait ing for him to scare the punters :D
i sure wondered about that too...his was the best of the show!
True!
Me too!
Yeah...that was so realistic. Definitely one of the best ones there.
yh that was a great art job
Really nice video. Last time i visited was 1977, so it has been completely refurbished inside and out. Thanks for posting. Still well worth a visit, by the looks. What amazes me, watching this in 2021, is the amount of visiters there. During Covid I have really come to appreciate smaller amounts of visitors and social distancing.
It is full and it is loud. I am happy to see the clip here at RUclips. Now I know what I don´t visit if I travel to London....
Thank you so much for posting this video. I feel like I was there and I'm exhausted from walking around visually. Brilliant place. Cheers from New York City.
David Savian cheers! Glad you enjoy it.
I still miss the Chamber of Horrors
I did watch a video, looks cool.
Really enjoyed that. What a grand place.
Just mind blowing!
New friend here. Ty for taking us on this journey. I appreciate you immensely. HUGS from NY State ❤🤗
Fantastic experience, I didn’t know you could get so close. Defiantly a future trip Thanks.
Looks really good.
Never knew there was
so much to it!
Visited in the 70s and enjoyed it, the wax models were roped off and it had a very different atmosphere. Now it just looks like a cattle market, get in as many people as possible and charge as much as you can. Really can't see how anyone can fully enjoy this anymore.
Thank you for sharing this video it was very interesting
Cheers!
Thank you sooo much for the tour... It was great to see how well behave folks were... here in the states everybody who be unruly...
Thank you!
I really love your vedio, I always want to visit the place. Thank you for sharing it.
I'm so glad that you posted this!! I've never been, but just watching the tour you took, I feel like I have! Thank you so much!
Thanks! I should go again with another camera that i have, the stabilization is better on this other camera.
@@Travel_addict_81 That would be awesome! I really enjoyed this video, altho it was a bit shaky, but nevertheless, it gave me the opportunity to see it! Thank you.
Awesomeness
I would like to see it in reality, but its not possible because...?? 😷🙄😣
...but thx for the first impressions 🙇♀️🤦♀️🙋🏻♀️
Thanks for that. Last time I went was about 1978. It's changed a lot.
Georgia Raynes glad you enjoy it.
It is amazing how alive most of these figures look! I literally was scared that one of them would reach out and touch the person standing next to them! Creepy!
Felicidades espectacular lugar . Increíbles imágenes parecían reales
Thank you for posting
Too crowded!!!!!
As someone who has never heard of Tussaud's until a few months ago, I would love to go pay a visit someday when I get the chance to go to London. I know what people say with the crowds and what not, but I genuinely never knew such a place existed and I am not going to let a little claustrophobia get in my way. 100% going to visit it someday. Bucket list destination.
Joshua Moolman book online and go at 10 am when they open
I bet that place is spooky as heck at night when everyone has gone home.
Lois Austin agree
All come alive !!
It is I felt negative entity in there that’s why I couldn’t go in didn’t want it attaching to us those dummy’s are scary as hell
@free_spirit_hooping dunno how to revoke them whatever that means, that’s why we got out my health deteryated so much last yr friends thought I was gonna die after catching COVID fracturing my left leg to nana a few I’m still bed ridden but since moving I’m eating100% normal drinking and taking my meds istughled with last yr dr had to give me liquid meds. Let’s just say I had a blood transfusion that scared hell out of me my lovely social worker found this house and got us moved within a week now I’m almost 100% with health. The cats act strange though
@free_spirit_hooping I could feel the heaviness in my room even Carers didn’t like the bedroom and I felt like the ambulance crew felt uneasy too,and other guests who stayed over refused to sleep in my room they felt the bed move someone shaking them and I woke one morning and the duvet was so neatly folded between my now ex and myself then argument started it was horrible negative whoever the soldier was don’t know
As expensive as these celebrity wax dolls are, I simply cannot get over the fact that the public is allowed to touch, stand close, and put their arms around them! That place was a mad house and loud too boot! I know one has to pay to get in, however it's not worth paying if you have to deal with hordes of people every time you turn around!
that was good. thanks for sharing
Thank you for this tour. I'd love to visit it
wahiba tira It is a very busy place, it was 10 in morning. The price was more than 30 pounds( 40 dollars).
That's one of the ones I'd love to visit. So far, I've only been to New York and Las Vegas. My sister had the pleasure of visiting London because her best friend's husband was stationed there at the time.
I think this must the busiest, i have been in Amsterdam and is not busy at all.
@@Travel_addict_81 I can imagine. Isn't it the first one created? If so, it makes sense how busy and big it is. 🙂
PrincessofPower84 i think is the first one, i looked on google, in the 19th century
I’ve been at Madame Tussaud’s at NY city few months ago and there’s no how compares with this one! Planning a trip to London soon!
It is a mad house. I did watch a video from NY and i have been to the one in Amsterdam but nothing compares to this one. And it was 10 am when i enter.
You should book in advance and go in the morning
That was excellent, I really enjoyed this, particularly 'The Hulk'. Thank you for sharing this.
Andrew Dexter thanks !
4:55 The King and the Queen... i love them 🥰🥰😍😍😍😍 kleo
I would love to go here.
That likeness of Mary Queen of Scots is absolutely breathtaking!
The Princess Diana statue was her worst hairdo and make up she wore. There were so many other phases of her life where Diana looked so much more beautiful.
Brenda Anne Du Faur agree, doesn’t even look like her
I thought the same exact thing.
Agree. All the TV and movie portrayals of her have never once got her hair right either.
Brenda Anne Du Faur yes Diana was so beautiful 😍 in real life
Roy G Biv yes 😔
Incredible! Princess Diana is absolutely stunning! The Beatles? Amazing!
A lot of opportunities for selfies for sure! Looks like fun.
It is amazing how they make them
Nver been thier but lks gd thanks for filming it alot to see
Lovely
Omg great place to visit good songs on there
Thank you for posting. But,now I know there's no reason to revisit.I loved it in 1984,one of the best days of my life.David Bowie, fresh fron Serious Moonlight tour! And the Jack the Ripper street was spectacular! There was a taxidermy tea party at the entrance of a zebra and others wearing clothes!! Does anyone else remember these things?I'm so fortunate to have seenthe Battle of Trafalger exhibit too!!
They got rid of that street in 1996, I've found some great pictures of it in the 80s, also of the Bowie figure. The Battle of Trafalger part looked really cool. What was the experience like? Was it long?
d@@vimes1003 Trafalgar was incredible.AS I remember they won some kind of award for the sound design. The canons had the noise of the real Victorys' being fired, smoke and flashing light explosions.Excellent experience all round!XXXX
@@starpan1976 awesome! They were experimenting at that time with using plaster figures too so all the figures looked really stylised which looks quite cool. They took it away when they added the Spirit of London which is an amazing ride. I wonder why they did though cause I don't think they took up the same space? was it at the end of the waxworks?
@@vimes1003 Yes,I think so.The plasters wereRad but I think they were still doing Waxies too. It's very nice to talk with you!
@@starpan1976 Yes, the Nelson figure was in wax but the rest in Trafalgar were plaster as it opened in around 1966 when they started trying other materials, but that didn't really last very long. I think the figures look awesome from the photos I can find. Same! Very cool to hear about your memories!
Oh and also, you mentioned it won an award for sound? Do you have any more information on this as I've never heard that before. I know for sure though that the poster for the attraction won an award.
Removing The Chambers Of Horrors was a mistake. Thanks a lot snowflakes
I didn't know about that, they where asking some more money for some other events but i didn't want to pay. It was expensive anyway.
I to mis the Chamber of Horrors, but there is always the London Dungeon ;-)
Do they show Harry Potter or Hogwarts characters... If so.. at what time do they show it
That was the best part! Who cares about stupid celebrities?
Glad that is gone sounds so creepy
Would love to see this now...can't believe how packed it,is....!!
Che bello!!
Great video. It’s changed a lot since I went in 2003, obviously! Would love to again. Looks quality 👌
Cheers!
Some of them look ready to walk around in there o. o amazing realism.
Very beautiful
When I was a child my mother took me to the first wax museum. We saw so many wonderful old stars and honey ,they looked like they would step out and touch you. We saw Frankenstein, Dracula they looked authentic. The one in Hollywood isn’t quite up to par.
great video
Érdekes volt nekem nagyon tetszett
11:52 is my favourite part❤️
is michael jackson
@@Leesin-zb3gi my to michael jackson 😍😍😍
Love this place it's so versatile and great to spend a few hours in and the taxi dark ride is ace get a fast pass or merlin annual pass though or you have to queue 4 ages x
Hello my friend. I'm watching your new vlog and enjoy your tour at London. Best regards from Indonesia. Success for you.
Thank you for stopping by.
This reminds me of my visit to Mdm Tussauds when I was ten years old. 😓
Thanks for the video. I went there 24 years ago and there were not many tourists like this. : )
I like Hall of horror and a guy who pretended to be one of the show. Everything looks different but the exit is still the most interesting part. I went to London again last year but I didn't go there.
Kai Kai i don’t think they do that anymore. Hall of horror i don’t think is there anymore
We had a chance to move to the UK a few years ago... one of the things I was most excited to take the kids too was Madame Tussauds... I have great memories of going in 1982... it was very cool.. not every step of the way a celb filled rooms... but, lots of local history and a few celbs tossed in... didn't even know who half those "famous people" were... We ended up not moving... and I am glad to see this video tour... now I will know... to avoid the place... what a awful mess that is... enjoyed it much better back in the day..
Hermoso!!!!!😍
Video puts me off ever wanting to visit this place.
The place was dead as a Dodo when I took my kids there in the late 80's and at that time you weren't allowed to touch the exhibits. It was a brilliant day out --- from the look of this video, I won't be taking my grandkids there any time soon.
Back then, now it is mad.
It's lost its prestige. The quality of the figures is still top notch, but the whole vibe and branding about it is a real turn off
I would love to go there 💞🙏
Looks like hell on Earth with all those crowds...
Way to busy, true
Imaging, being forced to go there, knowing that these idols are all transgender puppets in real life, without exception; that would be real hell. But an ideal place to give human Anatomie Courses for school classes, until they kick you out. I think trans people should get Free entry to Madame T.´s chamber of horrors. (T for Trans), to get some new ideas. 2:47 Alien arms on Markle.
I was there about 30 years ago, not crowded at all, quiet and pleasant. everything roped off. Not full of hollywood celeb figures.
and all the noise.... horrible!
It has 2 b buzy 2 bring in the dough without crowds of people they have no money flow ......do u get it dick head 😂 😂
Molto bello fa un po impressione tra sculture di personaggi vivi e morti trallatro sono molto molto somiglianti e realistici bravi 😊👍
Been to quite a few Madame Tussauds in my time, but none of them compare to London. The one in London is by far the best
Visited here in 70s. I seem to remember everything being roped off, less busy and intriguing.
Now it looks to be completely overrun, claustrophobic, shambolic and a bit tacky/trashy.
agreed. I can't believe they allow it
Phil O'Saurus yes, it is crazy place and it was 10 am
Remember the Chamber of Horrors? Jack the Ripper, Acid Bath Haigh etc.
@@Teobi1 Indeed i do - all very sinister and creepy it was too. I also seem to remember another Chamber elsewhere - perhaps at the Tower -memories of most exhibits fail me now.
@@philwification Are you thinking of the London Dungeons?
Aw i love how they put Kleo together 🤤💗
Super
Vou visitar esse Lugar é muito interessante
Es increíble, cómo pueden hacer esas figuras tan realistas. mi sincera felicitación al artista o los artistas que hallan hecho esto...
They did a great job with almost every single one.
I had a great time in the wax musium in Niagra falls, Canada.
Nice museum
Hi Travel addict Thank you so much for showing the wax figure of Princess Diana, her son Prince William and his wife Kate!!!!
Hi Maureen! Glad you enjoy it.
Me gusto mucho!!!
Wow! The taxi cab ride vehicle promote School of Rock: The Musical. Now that's quality.
merci c est genial!!!
c'etait genial.
Weirdly (considering how much people bang on about how realistic the models are) I'm having trouble identifying who the celebs are!
some are not done very well or are old representations of them from years ago.
Me too.
I recognised Shrek
I visited the museum 30 years ago.And we did take photos.
11:50 the most awaited ❤KING OF POP❤
Michael king of pop 💋💋
I love the one direction 🧡🧡🧡
Thank you so much , was this a special event for it to be so crowded?
