More please. I think Meredith Wilson would be thrilled. As theatre progresses to uncharted territory, The Music Man will always continue to be wholesome and delightful. The score is impeccable and this revival is spectacular. I wish I had seen it but I can tell just from this. Thank you for this fabulous video. I’m having the best time.
Great video of the final curtain, including the last number! I've seen several videos of last night, and every single time I cried when Sutton talks. So emotional, such great artists and lovely human beings. I had the luck of being able to go to New York to see the show. I'm from Buenos Aires, and a big fan of musicals, since I was a child, and a big fan of Hugh Jackman, since I saw him in "Oklahoma!" on tv, around 2001, and it was a dream come true. And I had the chance of talking to him briefly at the stage door, and it's absolutely true what Sutton says : he always choses to be kind.
I was skeptical going to this show but ended up absolutely loving it. You could tell the cast was having fun. Hugh and Sutton cracked each other up, trying to throw one another off, but it didn’t take away from the story, it just added an element of fun. A great production!
Thank you, a thousand times thank you for this video! I made a 24-hour there and back (from MN) to see this production on 12/13, and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The absolute joy of the cast was tangible and the connection they all had was perfect. And I second Sutton's sentiments, Hugh could be doing a thousand different things but he chose Music Man. Broadway. Through all the delays and the incessant schedule that is required of Broadway headliners-- he poured out his guts for eight shows a week. He's a one in a million class act (as is Sutton cause she keeps up without appearing to break a sweat) and it's a memory I'll always cherish. :)
I live 7 blocks from the theater and didn't care to go and you drove all the way from MN? I like Jackman, I guess living here for 30 years, I've seen so many shows, I used to go three times a week with a group as you can get group rates, we were usually front close in the orchestra section or first row in the mezzanine. I guess living here I'm spoiled and over time, actually have gotten tired of going, seriously. Wonderful of you to drive all that way to support live broadway. I'm so over it all I wouldn't walk the 7 blocks to the theater. I have stored boxes of all the actor signed theater Playbills I have from all the shows I've seen, which will all end up in the trash one of these days. Last shows I went to were Bradley Cooper in The Elephant Man, Sienna Miller in Cabaret and Al Pacino in something, can't even remember the name of it. I was at the front and actually talked to him after the show, he's full of energy, he was great, was talking to everyone. Oh, My Fair Lady at Lincoln Center was the last time I went to live theater here, it was a wonderful production.
I hope it comes to Melbourne, Australia. I love musicals and remember seeing the movie of The Music Man when I was young. I grew up watching Hollywood musicals with my mum and can watch them again and again. Thank you for sharing this. 💕🇦🇺
We went in November-front row. Ate at Gallaghers and found our way wandering back in front of the theatre. “I wonder if they still have tickets to the 8 PM show?” They did. In the 10th row. The BEST production I’ve EVER seen! Thank you!
Someone on FB asked what her husband and daughter (HJ fan) should see when spending the weekend in NY to see The Music Man. I replied: See Music Man twice! 🤩
I love the music man! grew up on the movies (along with sound of music). I saw the show the week before they closed and it was amazing! I loved the atmosphere that these types of shows create. hugh jackman and sutton foster are some of the best and they always are entertaining in anything they do. When I went they kept throwing each other off and it was hilarious. at one point hugh seemed to forget his lines but just went with it lol
This musical ( everything connected to the '57 Broadway production , the ' 62 movie, etc.) is SO good it is in the Archives of the USA and the Library Of Congress as a treasure of the USA.
Never saw Musicman on Broadway, didn't like the rumours about an affair with Hugh and Suttom Foster. The movie Musicman was my favourite of all time. Was disgusted and felt sorry for Debborah Lee. I've been a Hugh fan for 25 years, no more.
Every final show I’ve seen on Broadway they didn’t drop the curtain, and the actors just walked off. It’s a Broadway tradition, was surprised they didn’t do it.
Mr. Jackman, the quote he mentions here in this video: "Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened"...was NOT a Dr. Seuss quote. Seuss used it, but it was not his own original quote. People as they do, have changed the wording over the years, but the original quote is from: German poet Ludwig Jacobowski, his work titled “Leuchtende Tage”, published in the August 1899 issue of a literary journal, “Das Magazin für Litteratur”. The title could be rendered as “Bright Days” or “Radiant Days”. One verse rhapsodized about the bright days of the past, and the next verse began with these two lines: Nicht weinen, weil sie vorüber! Lächeln, weil sie gewesen! English translation: "Do not cry because they are past! Smile, because they once were!" So, German poet Ludwig Jacobowski, is the original author of this quote, not Dr. Seuss, he lifted it for his own use.
Thanks for closing this fast after you kicked out an incredible and amazing show for, well, a show for old boomers, there is also a cash grap. So now let's go back to the future. 😎 (thsts what's next at the wintergarden)
Yes a cash grab, but also a great revival. Because honestly, they don't make them like that anymore. Some people just want to have fun and be entertained. Period.
Oh stop. Beetlejuice had a nice run and a new life at the Marquis. AND a tour! This argument is old and just worn out. Music Man was always meant to be a limited run. They didn't "close fast". Move on.
I’m far from a boomer and I adore Golden Age Musical Comedy. And I’m not alone. At least Meridith Wilson knew how to fashion a proper rhyme scheme (which I can’t say for Beetlejuice or Back to the Future). And you think musicals based on movies aren’t an IP cash grab?
@Rocco Cupido the music man is not that great. It's good. But it's a solid 5 compared to west side story, king and I, sound of music, marry Poppins, my fair lady, amongst others.
Did you get to see it? I don't think you did because almost everyone that did see it loved it! You may want to start building that bridge to get the hell over yourself

One of those feel good musicals!

It classic, dated no
It became Hugh and Sutton The Music Man not the Meredith Willson musical
Trust me, Hugh is exceptional as Harold Hill BUT the one and only BEST Music Man still remains Robert Preston.
Didn’t anyone tell them you’re not supposed to drop the curtain on the final show.
Nitpicking in the face of this clip is really unpleasant
Every final show I’ve seen on Broadway they didn’t drop the curtain, and the actors just walked off. It’s a Broadway tradition, was surprised they didn’t do it.
@@clairesmith4699 There is nothing I could find that says that is a rule or anything. It must be up to the people producing the play or musical!
To Nona's point, the set also needs to be struck, way from the audience's view, so as many people as possible have to leave as quickly as possible.
OMG I'm going to miss this show so much!!! (not)

I agree
Am I the only person whoever thinks this is just a little dated. This is such a product of a different time in musical history.
The world did not begin the day you were born..great art doesn't date
