- When I watch viral lifehacks on RUclips, Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok I see a lot of things that would not work in reality, some of this lifehacks could even ruin your doll - so let's take a closer look at some of them and expose some lies!

Moral of the story: Five Minute Crafts is trying to make money off of the recent popularity of doll customization without doing any research. I have been watching doll customization videos for four years, and you cannot cut corners. It is a very time consuming and precise art.
I noticed on the dye purple hair also when she rinsed the water was clear. Anyone that dyes know water is not clear when rinsed.
It takes an hour to rinse clear😆 then everything shower after your still seeing dye
Oh gosh yes, the first time I dyed my hair I thought the dye was falling out lol but it did stain the bath 😂😂
Also the lips are with different colors in both dolls xD
I keep almost staining my shower when I dye my hair
I color my hair about every two weeks (I wash my hair a lot so it fades faster) and I use demi permanent so it stains the shower so bad lol
Purple hair doll magically got new lipstick color, too. Was red, then turned peach. 😂
And the purple dye on her face magically vanished 😂

The worst part about the soldering tool “trick” is that they’re using their bare hands to wrap it. If it can melt doll hair it can sure as hell burn your fingers.
yes! it's clearly not hot. Now I'm thinking, maybe they used hot air to curl the strands off camera, like I've done with the bbq stick.

You can dye synthetic hair with some fabric dyes or alcohol based inks. I'm a cosplayer there's tricks to getting hair the shade you need it

My stepdaughter has all of a sudden got obsessed with her monster high dolls and wanted to repaint them like I do with my dolls. I showed her your channel and she she thinks you are the most amazing person ever! She absolutely loves everything you do, and we spent all yesterday re-doing dolls before she went home to her mum.

Also, Moonlight Jewel and Hextian are amazing artists as well but Poppen is probably the best role model for your bonus daughter. Heaven forbid she go home to her birth mama and risk getting you into trouble for showing her mom some videos of people who might not be received well. I think that Hextian and Moonlight Jewel are both wonderful people and I do NOT think that thier personalities or, in Hextian's case his sexuality, make them "bad role models" but some people might be put off by that and Moonlight Jewels tattoo's. However, if you haven't seen their channel's and you are not bothered by them or it wont get you into trouble then I highly recommend them. I love all of the artists I've seen here on RUclips but Poppen is definitely a wonderful role model and she is an absolute amazing artist, no doubt.

The repaint artist in me gets soooo mad when I see those videos. I have so many barbies that got ruined from doing the things in those videos (I was very young when I did them and those were the days before 5 minute crafts).
Comic sans was made to be dyslexic friendly! That’s why it always appears on school worksheets. Other than that, totally true.
@@DollGrrlTrixie good news, someone made an completely improved version of Comic sans. Unfortunately that also removed the reason why dyslexics had any benefit from it too...

I lost it at the hair dye on the doll, yeah the hair is coloured but the entire vinyl of the doll is that color too. 🤦♀️🙄

They got purple whatever on the doll's face, and somehow the 'after' doll did not have any staining on the face. It's a mystery!
lol there's also no dye that washes out when they're rinsing it...
That last lie was so dangerous! When I learnt to solder I was careless and distracted and I burnt myself. It took weeks for the burn to heal and I have a tiny scar where it burnt. Soldering irons get dangerously hot. I can't believe they would suggest this. Imagine the kids that watch that video and then go borrow they're parents soldering iron thinking its safe to touch. Thank you for helping expose this.

Yes! I used to work with professional grade irons which can be adjusted to run cool (better for delicate soldering). I've touched those tips by accident and it even made my calloused fingers tender for a week.
Right? My mom wanted to do stained glass. The first time she tried, she grabbed the soldering iron by the wrong end. She had to go to ER. They were not wrapping that hair around a hot iron.
I picked one up at school whilst I was talking to someone and misjudged where it was, three of my fingers were safe but my index and thumb touched the metal (not even the tip) and got quite burnt!
If a kid hurts themself touching a soldering iron, I don't think it's the RUclips video's fault, but entirely their parents, because of those questions:
1. Why was the iron in the children's reach?
2. Why didn't the parents give them a clear demonstration of why that tool is really dangerous and why they should not touch it? If they are older kids, why didn't they get a demonstration on the proper way to handle that tool?
3. If the kid is under 13 years old, why was that kid on RUclips alone when clearly RUclips is not meant for children and never was (they have RUclips kids made for them)?
4. Why didn't the kid go to their parents to ask for permission? It is one of the parents' responsability to teach their kids to ask for permission.
At the end of the day, adults are responsible for their own actions and parents/teachers/nannies/supervisors for children's actions. People have common sense, it is not hard to understand that any hack involving toxic products, heat, and sharp tools can be dangerous and should be done with care or not done at all, and children just need to learn to ask permission. The only situation in which people are not responsible for their actions or their kids' actions is when they are physically threatened or severely mentally manipulated, but in no way does a RUclips video forces anyone to recreate hacks.
It's really sad that they're showing dangerous and destructive "hacks" when real ones exist, like Maryna's barbecue stick curls or using liquid fabric softener to fix matted hair.

On the one where they "curled" the hair: The doll with the messed up hair has a broken/detached neck joint. Her head is just jammed down, and you can see her shoulder right under her jaw. The other shot, with the "after," has one with an intact neck joint. Even if they had successfully hidden that with the shirt, the length of the neck is still very different.
I wasn't even that violent with my Barbies growing up, but I had SEVERAL who lost their heads and they never went back on, because the joint detached, or the body broke right on the seam.
eta: also, the "dyed" hair doll has a different face than the "before". Before has her lips slightly parted, and the after does not, and has lighter colored lipstick and darker eyes.
It is so obvious that the dolls are different that I was surprised Poppen did not mention it. The first head was a fake doll, the second was an original Barbie doll.

I absolutely love how not only are you telling us that this is a lie, but I especially love that you show how it's either jump cuts or you circle things on the screenshots and that you even have dolls on hand to demonstrate to us how the hack does not work!! Thank you so much!! There's young girls who will be mislead when they mess with their barbies!!

The channel How to Cook That has a few debunking cooking and cleaning videos on her channel it's very eye opening I'm so happy your tackling the Doll hacks. As a beginner at doll customization this is so helpful. Please make this a series!!!
How to Cook That showed one of channels had strawberries in bleach, and a way of using molten sugar that would have caused burns rather than any good result
@@DaisyGJ yeah I remember that she even showed an actual white strawberry that was grown, I think in a separate video there's a place in Japan that grew them is on the channel called "Only In Japan" so it can be done naturally without bleach.
I love How to Cook That! Those videos are how I found her channel. I only back like 3 times a year, all within like 2 months, but I watch her baking videos anyway lol

Um doll hair is basically plastic and doesn’t “lift” or lighten with human hair color 😂🙏🏻 markers maybe but even that rubs off and stains your dolls face 😩
I'm pretty sure they were trying to replicate an instagram account that uses hair dye to customize doll hair. I don't know how that account does it either, they must use real human hair on their dolls, but it looks shiny like nylon.
Edit: They DO use real human hair, they use bellarmi hair which is crazy expensive idk how they fund that. They're a viral doll account. @welovetheroyaldolls

Oddly I've found using orange fabric markers on blonde dolls make really cute strawberry blondes!
Whenever I see the phrase, 'life hack', I run in the other direction. A lot of 'life hacks' are harmful (not just to dolls) and shouldn't be on the internet! It makes me angry, too. I feel your pain, Poppen!
On a lighter note: Omg please make a Brad Mondo doll! I can just imagine what his accessories could be: hair dyes, brushes, scissors, and OF COURSE, him wearing his merch and showing off his haircare line! PLEAAAASE!
A good tip I've seen from actual doll customizers for afro curls is to weave the hair through a bobby pin in a figure eight style then use the hot/cold method. Once dry, it's a beautiful, full, fluffy afro. 😊

Also the doll with the afro is a completely different doll from the one with straight hair they started with
i actually own the doll they show in the afro tutorial and I can assure you - the doll comes with the afro already! they likely bought 2 of the doll (since they are fairly cheap) and combed out one's afro for the 'before' video and kept the other one as it was originally styled for the 'after' video. in other words: their 'after' video is just the doll straight out of the packaging with nothing done to it.
Life hack: buy a doll that looks like what you want already
If there's one thing I learned from watching Poppen Atelier angry is that 5 mins crafts is really making an enemy from every professional content creator possible...

They should be called "lie hacks" instead of "life hacks". I've seen so many videos debunking videos from that type of channels. Looks like they really do not pay attention about what they are posting.
I hope you make more of this kind of videos (not only debunking false information, but just talking about any kind of topic you find interesting), the weeks you can not post doll customs. It's like spending time with you just hanging aronud, and it's fun; Maybe you could make a video about doll hacks that actually do work!

The big red flag about the hair dying hack for me was the fact that when they washed it afterwards no color came out.

It's too bad they don't sell that one Ken doll that became infamous as the gay Ken doll because that was practically a Brad Mondo doll. I still see pictures of it occasionally and can't help but notice how much it reminds me of Brad and some of his outfit choices.

The "after" hair dye doll has lighter lips and higher eyebrows (24:00). It's like they weren't even trying to make it convincing!
They made 'cleaning' white shoes hack with different size shoe before and after cleaning and did not found it weird

I remember I cut a bob on my barbie doll (she had the stick on fairy wings, I got it when I was very little). and I wet her hair several times to get it to stick down. I also dyed her hair blue. I used very simple watercolor paint, hahaha. It became hard as a shell, but I just brushed through it and it stayed blue for a very long time. I think I still have her somewhere with blue hair.

I was actually shocked even when you used the hairdryer on the doll 😆 I managed to melt ABS with a hairdryer before and now avoid it around toys. I would suspect the soldering tool to burn the hair off, melt the doll's head, and put the kid in ER. What absolute garbage, especially when there are legitimate working doll "hacks" e.g. using pipe cleaners and hot water for curling.
I wish that these hack channels would be barred before someone really gets hurt! You could burn yak hair, human hair, horse hair off with a soldering iron. Why would anyone do that? Because the viewer is inexperienced and trusting. Thanks for doing this video. Maybe it will keep a few people out of the ER with severe burns. And keep doll hair from just gumming up on the iron. 😖😡
They are a content farm, the views gives them so much money as they are reccomended by youtube. They dont even care if they show potentially dangerous stuff. It is supposed to look easy so when you try, you question yourself not the video!

Oh no no nonononono, I'm a cosplayer and I'm used to styling wigs and I could tell, since the beginning, you NEVER cut hair like that. And the dying one? Stupid, you don't dye synthetic hair like that, the aliminium is put to heat up BUT a doll doesn't emanate heath so the foil won't ever heat up!

As you said, the most dangerous thing is that audience for these barbie/dolls videos is going to be children (for the most part)- Even if the child shows these hacks to their parent, the parent wouldn't necessarily know that they are bogus tricks either. It's sad to think how many dolls are going to be ruined just so someone could make a quick buck

I remember seeing a pretty good tutorial on how to make an afro on a doll. It seemed like a cool thing to try, honestly.
Basically, you take pipe cleaners and wrap small sections of hair around them. Then you corkscrew the pipe cleaners down; essentially making their head look like a sea urchin :'y
Then you dip in boiling water for a few minutes and voila! Sweet afro barbie ;y

I am a collector and I was dying a bit inside 😅😅😅(I never use good condition originals or rares for my customs, I add them to my collection lol) also I think while searching in her clutter for the spectra doll I though I saw her almost pull out an original Abbey Bominable I was like whyyy??😭😭😭

17:15 I saw dolls like those on Aliexpress. They got one face but different hairstyles. There’s straight hair, short hair AND big Afro. I guess they just bought 2 dolls with different hairs for this “life hack”.

I love videos that expose life hacks. It's so nice to have people who know what they are doing actually explain how to do things. I really hope that this type of videos, exposing life hacks, become a trend so that more people can how how these companies are lying. I love the ones on how to cook that and I hope more people start to make them.
5minute crafts is pretty notorious for "life hacks" that don't work and are incredibly dangerous. Most of the dangerous ones have the potential to leave you severely burned, like that soldering tool one.
My favorite thing about the hair dye "hack" was that you could see were they got the dye all over the left side of the dolls face. Somehow, magically, not only is her hair perfectly dyed a darker purple then the dye, but the dye on her face didn't stain the crap out of it. A true miracle.

as someone who dyes their hair a lot, I can tell you right now, they're using regular hair dye mixed with conditioner.
I appreciate your outrage. I’ve watched plenty of their videos...they’ve even made videos that disprove some of the hacks ! Thank you for pointing these out, I hope it saves someone’s doll.

I remember when I was twelve I cut my Teresa doll's hair just like the first video and it looked EXACTLY like a Mary J Blidge's wig in the "Family Affair" videoclip. For those not familiar with it, I meant absolutely chunky and assimetrical. Biggest mistake ever; 10 years later and I've promised myself I will reroot the poor girl.
