This is best used with harder soaps. I haven't tried melt soaps yet. If you do please let me know. I have noticed some types of gel soaps do not do well. We are loving Maui Soap Co. right now. Do you make pour soaps?
Hi, thanks for asking. If the design was Felted on well, then no. If not trying to felt it again would make the design move. You could do a quick check to confirm it will stay put if you are uncertain. Also as the soap is used it will continue to felt more and more anyway. I hope this helps. Happy Felting 🌬️❄️🌲🤍
Thank you for this tutorial. We will be felting soap with a Youth group. Do you have to wait 24 hours for the layering felt (the fiber wrapped around the bar of soap) to dry before adding the accenting felt (the designs felted onto the surface)? Or can we do it all in one meeting?
You are welcome, and thank you! I feel like waiting was a personal preference for me. You definitely could at it on/ not wait for it to dry. I wanted to be sure it was felted well/ allowed to dry some & the wool to shrink around it. Then when I added the design it was the complete final step. I felt by having it dry, I could also know the soap was securely felted and that layer of wool wouldn’t move around while I was Felting the design on. I hope that helps. Might be more fun the make the mesh of colors over design/ depending on age group? It is easy to break a needle tip when adding the design, since soap is so firm. Make sure that is a really straight in & out Felting process! I also have another felted soap video on this channel that I made after this one. You could cruise through it. Happy Felting 🌬️❄️🌲🤍
@@SnowflakeForestFelting Thanks for your response. Yes, I think we will do the mesh overlay. We have 14 Youth and that would be alot of felting needles to buy. Wide range in ages and abilities also.
Hi! Thanks for asking, when Felting lines, start with less and if it is too thin add on to make it thicker. Also try rolling it into the thin line you want first so you have an idea how thick the wool will be before adding it on. It can depend on the size of your project in the first place. And when 3D, I always start with a small amount of wool and build up until it is the size I want. It is easier to keep adding the wool as I go then to have to remove the wool. I hope this helps and make sense. Any more questions please let me know, I will do my best to help you.🌬❄️🌲🤍
Thanks for asking. Could it be the brand they are? The key is not go in at an angle but straight in & out. Maybe not felt so fast & hard? Slow down a little? In more details? & I might be able to help more?!

obaji4me It shouldn’t matter what type of soap you use... I’m just not sure why your soap wouldn’t lather. That is what soap should do regardless of being Felted or not.?!
You really don’t want to begin felting with the lather from the bar of soap you’re wrapping - especially if it’s a luxury soap or you plan to gift it. Once you have the roving around your soap, securely wrap it in a nylon and use a small amount of dish soap to create the lather. Also, it’s best to have a sink or large bowl of extremely hot water (as hot as your hands can stand) to dunk the soap in to shrink & felt the wool, rather than wasting the precious resource by leaving the taps running for 15 minutes at a time. And NEVER cut your wool roving. As for dropping essential oil on the felted soap, I’ve never heard of anyone doing that - but then, I use quality essential oils IN my soaps and don’t need to dump them ON my wool.

She doesn’t explain it very well. These needles are required for felting, an ordinary needle won’t do. Also, NEVER cut the wool roving as this woman does in the video - it destroys the ends of the wool that otherwise quite easily mesh together to create both wet (water felted) and dry (needle felted) felts.
