Scotch It! You scotch gods.
Wife brought home a bottle of this Costco Blended Scotch for grins and giggles ($18.95 in Ft. Collins, CO). To tell you the truth, I was a bit surprised. Better than any well Scotch I've had in a bar. I'm not a Scotch snob...single malts and blended are always appreciated by me. I, too, got that moment of sour at the end, but it was quickly replaced by a long peppery finish. I'd use this as a "table" Scotch at a large gathering. Scotch and soda mix, OK. I'd even us it during a holiday party for Rusty Nails. However, for close friends in small gatherings, I'd pull out something better. Nevertheless, not too bad...I've had much worse!
Very nice and Bart grew up in Evergreen CO. Just a side note
My favorite thing to do with this bottle is to make an old fashioned and instead of a simple syrup, I use maple syrup from Costco. I make a very simple old 2 oz. Of the scotch and a quarter ounce of maple syrup and then an orange peel and ice and bitters. Also, Missouri sells this if you're in Kansas it might not be too far of a drive.
Too far to drive. Barts already got bottles on the floor.
I was excited to try this, and the 12 year. The flavor is good, woody and cherry hints. The nose was Hog Wild cheese catfish bait with an oak undertone.
Hahaha what an intro! You just know the video is going to be good.
Boom
I also use it to make vanilla extract. Just chuck a couple of vanilla beans in a bottle. Top it off with this. Let it sit for a while and then you can make cookies or whatever.
👍
What an impressive collection you have going on behind you!
thanks Baron!
Yikes! This Costco expression was pretty rough! I was able to try a dram while visiting a friend in California. I'm not even sure I'd make a cocktail with it but maybe! Bart's idea of a couple of ice cubes and a few splashes of this Costco Blended Scotch Whisky is a cool idea. Now I like a fine single malt that can give a good punch and a bit of a rough ride sometimes, with high quality and amazing tasting notes, but this one would be a big pass if I ever saw it while visiting a U.S. Costco featuring Kirkland blended scotch. Vancouver's Costco stores don't carry alcohol which is a disappointment. I'd love to be able to find some delicious Lagavulin expressions with a discount! Who wouldn't right?!! Kirkland Islay expression is actually damn good! Terrific video Bart and Scott! Vert enjoyable! Cheers!
Thank you. Our Kansas Costco can’t carry alcohol either. A fan sends these along for a good “Test It!!!
@@ScotchTestDummies I love that! Cheers guys!! 🙂
Stash is coming along nicely 😀
Looks a little unkept to me! Scott
We don’t have a Costco near us but I have seen Walmart’s brand. I can’t seem to pull the trigger and buy one. I have tried house brands at our ABC liquor store and Total Wine store. They are decent and cheap. I don’t know if you guys have a Total Wine in your area but at least they have house brands with high ABV (45% and up). The Kirkland you are trying certainly sounds unappealing. Nothing wrong with a 40% ABV blend (Buchanan’s 12, JW Double Black, Old Parr, Dimple Pinch come to mind). I commend you for taking a hit trying this stuff on behalf of your viewers.
this really has been the least impressive release from Kirkland that we've tried. All the others have really been a good value.
Bought it a few years ago and got two glasses in and haven’t touched it since
mixer!
This bottle is the one Kirkland that I can't figure out what target buyer they are aiming this at. I assumed it was trying to be Johnnie Walker Red, but its not even close. It's missing that vanilla sweetness that red has. The blended 12 year is much better, it tastes like 50% Johnnie Walker Black and 50% Chivas 12 and is a solid neat pour for the money.
Great tasting tip Wesley. Thanks
Took one for the team..
Go Broncos!
Snidely Whiplash eat your heart out...what a stache!
🥸
These are 1999 in Costco in California
I use it for ginger ale highball with lime
Nice
it's not terrible.
especially for the price (which now is $26 where I'm at)
very nice, thanks Dobber!
ha ha, Erik the red fits since that's who my parents named me after. even funnier is my brother is named Leif. anyway i am glad you enjoy my gifts but i hope you have others to share that big badboy with. others say they get some char and a wisp of peat but i don't believe them. i use this one to blend with other things, just add a hint of wee beastie and it turns great. yah its like 28$ at my costco.
excellent! thanks Erik the Red!
If I send you my 12yr blended 1.75 will you do a head to head comparison?
This thing is clogging up my cupboard.
we've already got that one too!
My go to NAS Scotch Blend is Dewar's White label. Sounds like this won't be replacing that (not that I drink a lot of Dewar's anyway). I wonder if this was at 46% or 50% how it would fair
been awhile since i had dewar's white label, but i think it would fair better than this as well.
Gentlemen, name the 40%, NAS, chillfiltered & colored Blended Scotch which doesn't disappoint? I can't think of any.
A side by side with this bottle and something like Johnnie Walker Red, Dewar's White, Grant's, J&B, Chivas Regal, Black & White, Clan McGregor, might've been very telling (Did somebody say "16 Bottle Bottom Shelf Blind Shootout" ?)
I appreciate these Kirkland reviews, and with prices going nuts these days, every effort should be made to acquaint our brethren with high-value Mystery Whiskies from Costco, Trader Joe's, Total Wine and More, etc..
There are plenty of them out there, some shockingly good regardless of price, but this bottle was never going to be one of them. At best it's a plastic cup loaded with ice backyard party bottle ✌️
True
i agree and would love to see a budget shootout with this thrown in.
@@erikevenson4303 Yeah, I've suggested it before; I'd like to see it divided into something like "Best Blended Scotch under $20" and "Best Single or Blended Malt under $30". It can be done 👍
A whisky perfect for Fred Flintstone 😄
👍
That stash!
please don't encourage him!
I can't say I have ever seen a handle of something with a cork instead of a twist top
interesting, didn't even think about that.
hows it taste?
It’s alright at that price
$17.99 for a 1.75 Liter at Costco in Indianapolis for a cheap scotch blend is OK
We agree
great price. $26 here
B.O.B. And Eric D. Mann
as always thanks Jay!
I heard "Drambuie" being mentioned and followed my nose over hear. Oh man you can tell just by looking at it, it's trouble. Cheap lookin' lable, oversized bottle.
Yes yes yes
Definitely need a Jack Daniels Honey Cinnamon with some Apple flavor. 😀😄😆😂🤣
Boom
