I don't know the original show the bike armor is from, but Harmony Gold had incorporated the series into the American adaptation of Macross which was called Robotech. I didn't know about Macross as a kid but loved Robotech. Later discovered Macross and now a fan of both. The Cyclone bikes were one of my favorite mechs. 👍😎👍
The show this is from (along with the Alpha fighter plane) is _Mospeada_ . And as you mentioned about _SDF Macross_ , _Mospeada_ was a separate anime that Harmony Gold combined with _Super Dimension Cavalry _*_Southern Cross_* and _Super Dimension Fortress _*_Macross_* to make the "localized" cartoon Robotech (in reverse order of series chronology)
A marvel of engineering but definitely not a kid's toy, I can see a kid breaking this the first 5 minutes of transforming it. As a kid I was so disappointed with Matchbox's smaller 3 3/4" Scott Bernard that couldn't even combine with the Cyclone bike.

Only in size and included "accessories" from what I see... I mean what does it matter if the "rider" figure has so much articulation and so many metal parts, if all you really need it to do is ride the bike and hold the armor up?

I can’t say I hate it, but I don’t like it. Previous older cyclones became the wrap around armor not pieces you pick off and attach with the bulk of the bike becoming a giant backpack plug in.
