First of all, I really liked this unboxing precisely because it was you rambling in the background rather than telling us verbally what we were seeing visually anyway. Second, it was appropriately unnerving that you were a disembodied voice in this, rather than your usual straight-to-camera style. And last, you should definitely claim that the spooky 'horror-coming-into-focus' effect when you held a mini up to the camera was entirely deliberate.
Lol I'm happy to say it was on purpose :)
Hi Alex! Always fun to see your unboxing 😊👍 Love the art on Etherfields, AR games have a good resale value, automatic buy.
Yes, exactly :)
Thorn knight is a must have! I tried him and he's a combat orientated character and you get to mash 5 cards from any deck into his and you can play the rest of the game as him.
Nice! I do enjoy combat :)
I was thinking I would cut the board, but after playing with it solo with the horizontal layout I found it fine. I could reach everything and read everything without standing up or stretching my neck.
I plan on trying it first but will cut it if needed.
@@BoardGameCo Cutting will ruin your resell prospects...
@@michaelb8111 to a much smaller extent if it's the go to move.
@@BoardGameCo i bet a lot of people will add a playmat to their wave 2 shipping. suckers!
Never been this early! The game components look gorgeous!
And now I'm late :)
I have been watching a playthrough of this on a channel you sponsor. This game visually looks great albeit a little on the dark side. Game play is fun to watch as well and makes me wish I was opening a copy of my own.
Nice :) I should watch him play :)
@@BoardGameCo Could you direct me to the playthrough? Thanks!
Missed the KS campaign so had to go with wave 2 shipping 😢
Couldn't be more on board the hype train if AR made a Bioshock game though! One of the best game worlds I've ever experienced!
I want one so badly!
I thought I was starting to hear tears at 12:56. Such a sap for quality miniatures! We all have our weaknesses... lol EDIT: True, Awaken Realms could do something *amazing* with Bioshock but--why would Awaken Realms, generally regarded as making some of the best games to be had, pay a license when they can just keep creating new games for oodles of money without losing that profit margin (or have to make their expensive games even more expensive). Counterpoint: given that plenty of people are shelling out for their expensive (as heck) games, adding on $xx to cover the license may not be such a big deal. So...hmm. Better call that guy you interviewed and plant the seed. :-D
Oh I assume it's a long shot... Just a random thought I had while looking at a Bioshock looking mini :)
Alex' wisdom of the day: "There's a lot of publishers. There's more than 10!" :D
Also, please finally get Lords of Hellas to the table for crying out loud! I've been on the fence whether to get this or not so I'm as ready as I'll ever be to be pushed one way or the other. :)
I really need to :( Really really :(
Nice unboxing, just recorded my first one today! Sending it to you shortly lol
Lol solid job :)
Yeah completely sleeved all my cards lol. Takes up 2 complete boxes. Also went all-In. During the campaign the community had to vote on some of the transformations for the characters, and some of the enemies. Some of which I wasn't happy with, so I even got the alternative minis for both. Game will probably get more the one play through, thing is right now no one wants to play until after chrismas lol.
I'm so excited to eventually get this.
I also did 1 wave shipping for Tainted Grail, but most of my regret stems from pandemic delays rather than the hype of everyone getting it first. So we'll see if I do 2 wave for ISS or not. If I were a content creator though I'd definitely do 2 wave.
Yep, the content creator aspect sadly makes it an easy decision these days
@@BoardGameCo sadly?
@@cmchristensen fair :) just feels like I'm caving to "need it now"
@@BoardGameCo you are. And that's just fine :)
Very nice
:)
I am playing Etherfields with my wife and occasionally with a third player and I found the board as delivered unusable. Cut it into three pieces and it becomes both easy to use and easy to configure for any player count. Easy to do and looks great.
Nice, that sadly seems to be the general consensus.
Wondering if I should change my late pledge and drop the playmat. I imagine it’s more useless than the board since it can’t be cut?
Personally I would. I've seen too much negative feedback on the subject.
One of my favorite games in the 80s was Deluxe Illuminati, I know you don't normally cover board game to computer game KS campaigns but it does appear that they are moving the collector card version of this game New World Order to digital with enough backers. The artwork on the NWO was fantastic. Anyway in case you want to bring it up just a heads up. Oh and I'm waiting for my painted minis to arrive for this game; I'm still gradually building up my own painting studio - about 35% there.
I sadly never got into that one :(
Are you referring to the Steve Jackson game Illuminati?
@@justacynic yes
@@sidneyleejohnson Fantastic. So not only do I have Alex pushing me to back kickstarters, I now find kickstarters to back in the comments! AARRRRRRGH!!! (thanks)
Another excellent suggestion I saw was not to punch out the numbered tokens that are revealed/collected (puzzle pieces used to create a larger picture) at different points during the game. Leaving them in the cardboard sheet allows you to find the one you are looking for more easily and is a great storage solution because they take up a lot more space punched out and in a bag. For a more detailed suggestion check out Ryan Chaffee @ ruclips.net/video/eQ4Css6LVnQ/видео.html
Thanks! That sounds like a great idea
Are you planning to do a review as well before the possibility for late pledge ends? I really want it now but ISS is coming out soon as well and I have to make choices..
If I can I will, but please don't rely on it...constantly working on my backlog :)
God this game is so gorgous. I really wish i backed/late backed but its just so pricey xD
Ya :( I'm hoping it's worth it, reviews so far are stellar.
Looks gorgeous but this really does seem like it should be a tabletop RPG and not a boardgame for my own personal tastes. The line is pretty blurred these days but this just looks to have gone too far for me. I'm seriously considering purchasing a set of miniatures though for my Invisible Sun campaign and other similar RPGs.
I totally hear that...but people do seem to love it :)
@@BoardGameCo Totally! And I like how RPGs and boardgames are cross-pollinating more and more as it really makes for some interesting games, design choices, etc. Really strengthens the two hobbies as well and keeps things fresh.
Where can I find the 4 page manual you mentioned?
Thanks!
Should be on BGG in the forums :)
@@BoardGameCo Thanks!
Good... Now i need to buy this game... How can i say no to a mini of a penguin... ty Alex (😉)
Penguins!
Can anyone tell me where to find this four-page rulebook? It would come in handy when teaching the game to my friends next weekend. 😁

Not sure offhand, have you tried joining the etherfields FB page?
www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/2538979/learn-play-walkthrough There is a link to the google docs in this bgg thread for the 4 page guide plus printer friendly versions of it.
@@aaront4876 Awesome! Thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻
Why you gotta call me out on the split shipping Alex. I forgot with this game! :'(
Though I did end up adding to my pledge for wave 2. So double fail? Or single win?
It's ok, I've been making that mistake for way too long myself :)
Where is the link to gamefound and $5 off for signing up? (you said it would be in the description at 15:30

I think you get the discount just by registering on GameFound.

Yeah cut my board in half. Playing it 2 player. No regrets!
Nice :)
When I look at the Etherfields minis (on the KS page since I don't have a copy) I think the minis are wonderfully detailed but 2/3 of them are darkly grotesque. Why does "dream world" translate into "nightmares" instead of "fantastical"? I don't buy the thought that you need it to add tension to the game. I'd love to have the box robot, butterfly frog, and business penguin, but many of the others are a huge turn-off for me.
Lol Alex, still you didnt play LoH??
Not yet :(
The board is non-functionalfor game play, the dividers need labels, and the rulebook is difficult to understand.
The artwork is fantastic. I hope the story will be too.
I've been hearing tons of amazing things.
MvM has a play through. I'm going to be a late backer and there was so much content in the play through, I don't have to worry about remembering it and spoiling anything. It definitely showed me that the game is great and the quality is crazy. Also, the play through is Jeremy and Kira's.....7th scenario? So even less likelihood it spoils anything soon, particularly since the scenarios you play depend on choices you make. Just me saying it's worth a watch.
@@justacynic Thanks, I think the issue for me is that the intro mission and the regular game play are different so it's very confusing to get started especially with all the unfamiliar nomenclature.
