- at 3:52 Ritchie switches to bass. Does a pretty good job at it, too.

We just listened to a 50 year old song, and that's half a century...and it still sounds great!
This version doesn't ! I can do without the endless crowd chanting, Mr. karaoke lead singer and Ritchie's bass solo... The whole song meanders on aimlessly, yes it's live and Ritchie can jam and do what he wants but..... Nope ! Ian Gillan is the only vocalist who could do this song justice, and Ritchie should've stuck a bit closer to the actual guitar solo. I love Ritchie, Deep Purple and Rainbow but his "cover band" doesn't cut it for me. I await the hate !
50 years - that's half a century. The logic is blinding.
@@DokktorDeth Ikr, who would have thought 50 years could be half a century? Astounding!
@@CB-xr1eg it is if you aren't aware of that immutable fact.
Oh no it doesn't!!
I’ve seen Rainbow multiple times in the late 70’s, and 80’s and in all those years I had NEVER seen Ritchie Blackmore EVER play the Bass Guitar. I was watching this video and OMG I was shocked but very impressed. Perhaps the BEST Video I’ve ever seen. Ritchie Blackmore really impressed Me. Hell I’m waiting to see if He plays the drums as well. What an AWESOMELY AMAZING Video. Thank You for sharing this video.
Thank you very much.
I bet not many can say that they have played guitar live with Ritchie Blackmore on bass, ha ha great stuff !!
Now I know of two and the other even played SOTW.
Blackmore is just having a great time. He doesn't need to prove anything
He never has.
@@DokktorDeth true

Perfectly said. I saw Ritchie twice in the seventies with Rainbow and he was absolutely a beast and he performed like he can when wanted too. It was amazing. People just can't appreciate the Nostalgia of the current Rainbow. How many of the greats still are touring at all. The man is in his mid seventies and acoustically he is still brilliant. I wished it was 1970 to 77 but those days are gone unfortunately.
@@kurtsherrick2066 My earliest memory of Blackers was in 1970 with DP. (Yes, i still remember lol) The Rheinehalle, Dusseldorf. I has no ticket, so I bribed the ordner (security guard) with 10 Deutschmarks. (before the Euro) What a gig, it blew me away, I'd never seen anything like it. The man is still a treasure, and he still has a mind of his own.
I was enjoying Ritchie soloing on the bass guitar. It sounded _really_ good. 😊
I saw Ritchie and Roger switch guitars while playing Smoke on the Water in Wichita Kansas during the Perfect Strangers tour in 1984/1985 ...
Thanks for supporting my music 🎶 I’m so grateful 🥰 and I hope you never stop being a fan, I would like to honor you by giving you my personal information if that’s ok by you.❤️🕊
@@ritchieblackmore4900 sure !!!
Ritchie: this is how you play bass in my band.
Can you just imagine Ritchie lending you his guitar to play it on stage with him?
First time ever i seen this 🤣..if im the bassist, im not dare to play
He switched with Roger Glover, I think 1987 Malmö, Sweden
can you imagine lending your guitar to him and play it?
I’ll take his guitar anytime but i won’t borrow him mine.....
@@kasperkjrsgaard1447 🤣
Blackmore is just enjoying himself... people expect him to sound like the albums live 🤔🤔 good luck .... great concert and ritchie is ritchie ....
I realized that Mr. Blackmore wouldn't sound just like the albums a long time ago - at least a long time ago for me. I saw Deep Purple live in Mannheim Germany, June 29, 1985 during their Perfect Strangers tour. I have read numerous times that RB prefers to improvise solos in the studio and live.
No, people just expect some good music. His band is complete shit. The drummer is always out of tune, sounds like crap and is completely misplaced in this band. The bass guitarist has all the enthusiasm of a 60 year old music teacher who hates his job for the past 30 years and plays boring as hell. Johanson is kinda ok, the singer is great and Blackmore simply can't play anymore. I saw them at Sweden Rock Festival and people were disappointed, pissed, lots of them left early. They play way too slow. They played Smoke on the Water on half speed, it was beyond atrocious. He really needs to retire.
@@melaniel.4269 No, you just like to complain because your life sucks and we can all see why. If you had decent parents then they would have taught you that if you have nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all. We don't like Ritchie because you do not, we like him because we do like him so your negativity is meaningless to us. So now go away and watch your Boy George videos.

I did not believe it before I saw ist. The white goddess handed over to another musician to let Ritchie enjoy some bass playing. I'd never clean my bass guitar afterwards!
No kidding, this is just everything what music is about.
Playing. Having fun. Ritchie obviously does have fun.
Thanks ro Ritchie for sharing your guitar play with us, in what combination with other musicians ever.
Epico e stratosferico 🎸🎼🎵🎼 yeah 💉💊🚬😱 !! Ritchie Blackmore uno dei più significativi chitarristi !! Panta stin kardia mou 🎸💟

O melhor de todos os tempos, indiscutivelmente!

The great Man in Black... Wow! This is not the first time he played bass guitar live on stage (Roger Glover knows something) and he played bass on some tracks on "Long live rock an' roll" Rainbow studio album dated 1978!
You speak in mysteries and riddles. What was that story with Roger?
It's not a mystery but only some 34 years away: ruclips.net/video/CBNGBdDO9WU/видео.html
Vitaly, there's a video you can search for "Deep Purple - Live 1985, Ritchie on bass" in which Blackmore asked Roger Glover his bass guitar for playing last minutes of "Smoke on the water". Really funny!
@@TheAngel138 Thanks a lot!

This IS rock n roll!!!
Nobody during the 70s could imagine what Blackmore did at 3:53...
I just want to mention how good the singer is, in this song! I have to admit that I don't know of him, or, maybe I've heard the name before! But.....bloody great voice for rock! 👍
Curiously, he's RONNIE Romero and his voice sounded a bit like the late Ronnie James Dio imo
Great!!! Thanks for sharing!
health to you Richie Garwold Blackmore!
Blackmore is now my favorita bassplayer
I last time I saw DP with Blackmore, he and Glover traded instruments for the encore Smoke On The Water.
Last time I saw them (Perfect Strangers tour) they didn't even do Smoke on the Water! The house lights came on and the crowd was loud and clear in their disappointment all the way into the parking lot!
@@AnAmericanGuitarist That sucks. I can't remember if I saw them on the Perfect Strangers tour (I don't think so) but I did see them on The House Of Blue Light tour which my story was about. Almost rebroke the ankle I had just gotten out of cast too and in the exact same spot.
@Bill Griffin Ritchie didn't play guitar in smoke on the water? Wow

Blackmore no baixo primeira vez que vejo!!mito
Bass for Ritchie is a piece of cake any lead guitarrist can play bass .Jimy Hendrix played bass too
Bahaha don't make me laugh
Jimi*
That lucky bassist to get to play Blackmore's strat with his amazing tone.Sorry guys, just a little of an add on,i just noticed one security personnel with a ear muff.He 's for sure a Justin bieber fan.
Ritchie actually played the bass bits on some songs of Long Live Rock and Roll album
Indeed. Bob only played on 3 tracks
Gates of Babylon, Kill the King and Sensitive to Light
I think that was down to the fact that he came into Rainbow during the recording of that Album. ?
I think that album and Rainbow Live are my 2 favourites. Through I had them all back in the day as they came out.
@@davefrance3721 Long Live Rock&Roll is the best album in my opinion too, full off classic tracks and It was the perfect ending to the era of Dio.
Bev Bevan from ELO taught Ritchie how to play cello, specifically for certain parts on ‘Long live rock & roll’.
@@darrenoconnell2891 Names confused. Hugh McDowell (RIP) did - Bev was ELO's drummer.
How in hell do rockers accept this nowadays and wouldnt give Turner a nod in Purple..it all sounds so clean and almost Clapton like ..to think our genre was once known as dangerous...grr

Well done bob great work on guitar
Очень жаль, что Ричи Блекмор ушёл из ДипПёпл, это гениальная группа и его там не хватает, а эти ребята совсем не вызывают ни каких эмоций.
Ritchie did it with Roger Glover sometimes.
He is whimsical , you know well, don’t you?😂
En manos de Blackmore, cualquier cosa que tenga cuerdas es un simple juguete... Podria sacarle una melodia hasta a una escoba atada con sogas... Envidio a esos finlandeses... SALUD AL GRAN MAESTRO!!...
ritchie mette sempre a proprio agio sul palco, suonarci insieme deve essere davvero da sclero...cmq magara ;)
Ain't pay a dollar for that show!
I would...
Все когда были никем, время все расставит на свои места, всей молодежи удачи и творческих успехов
Hell yeah.
Funny thing that they changed instruments, sometimes a good thing to do as a musician often are able to manage to handle Another instrument, thumbs up!
It is like coverband supported by Blackmore himself
Que personaje Ritchie....
There's an opportunity in there to break into a couple bars of Ricky Nelson's "Summertime", or for maximum weirdness, the Blues Magoos and "Nothin' Yet".
Next he'll be on vocals
Lol 😄🙏🏼
I also wanna hear that
If Ritchie handed me his guitar just like that, first thing I would probably do is shit my pants .. then turn around and run. Fast. Really really fast, so that by the time everyone realized what was going on I would be already somewhere in Argentine .. 😁
when Blackmore plays the bass.. it sounds a bit jazzy.. ye.. cool.. bet he could play just about anything..
The bass player kinda looks like Jeff Daniels in Dumb n Dumber 1
You cant go back. This recording is pretty bad quality but the old man still has it. Where did 1978 go?

Year is year where Rich?
Wow!
Never play lead guitar on Ritchie's guitar while he's standing there.
A smile, please...

Ritchie must really like his Blackmores Night member. I have herd he really don't like a co-guitarist.

I want Blackmore to play drums

yessssss!!!
Nowadays, RB plays the bass better than the guitar!.🎸
Evil Joe, are you really that evil?...
🔫🔪💣💰
Fantastic if it was on LP like in the 70' Try it out without watching
The bass player wasn't paying attention. R.B. showed him how to do it right. Can you imagine playing Ritchie's setup guitar on stage warm out of his hands. I'd f up in front of 1000's to get that chance.
He doing with Purple on 1987 first !
we met the group at Helsinki Airport Jans said it was so hard to play Ritchies strat compared to a normal one
Was Ritchie on the same flight?
@@Bimbomable no Ritchie and Candice weren’t on same flight
Probably because of the deeply sculpted neck.
I didn't know that Richie changed his solo to bass in 2019. It turned out great!
Richie - play on that fucking guitar!!!
He also did this Exchange with Roger Glover at Purple, I think it was SOTW. And Glover's guitarplay was better...
Übelst.
Truth: Ritchie wasn't happy with how the bass line was being laid down. This is nothing new to his fans.

He played the bass parts on Long Live RocknRoll album as at the time they did not have the bass player.

I m sorry but i stay with the classic line ups i hope Ritchie Blackmore like he says one last show with Deep Purple
