the way he explains this movie is spot on. and thats what makes this movie so unbelievably good. the fact that a full movie theater could watch it over and over and everyone would see it differently. and it takes a while to understand it completely, and even once you do you still cannot explain it fully to other people. its a truly mesmerizing film.
I honestly can 100% agree with everything he said. He really described it in a way I couldn't, but have been wanting to for a long time. 10/10 nostalgia trip everytime.
I know he's not exactly the first person you'd think of as being an inspiration, but he's actually my idol! I've been to 4 different schools, and been bullied in every one, and I really had a problem with depression. I always feel better, thinking that I could be like him, some day. I'd love to meet him, just to thank him for giving me someone to look up to! He's just my hero! :)
Jake is like DiCaprio or Morgan Freeman to me, all of his movies are good really, haven't seen a shitty movie where Jake is in. Good actor, one of my favorites now.
I really love movies like Donnie Darko, they "force you to come to your own conclusion". They really make you think, and that's what we're missing with modern movies. No wonder why our society is so dumbed down now, because everyone is too lazy to think for themselves....
This movie is so fucking underrated and gives me so much nostalgia and memories even how deep the story and character development is plus how some people won’t know about this movie and videos makes me depressed asf I’m not gonna lie
I was twelve when this movie premiered, but i never saw it until recently. Also, jake and maggie - siblings portraying siblings - doesn't get any better than that, and they pull it off greatly.
Love this freakin movie. Not many can make you go WTF at the end. This ine screws with your head and feel the instant urge to watch it again. Jake is a great actor. Love his movies.
I recently saw this movie, and I was speechless!! Jake is is right, after watching the movie, I was compelled to watch it again because I've the way it ended. I needed to put the pieces of this story together. And I also concluded, just as jake said, there is no definite meaning of what this gripping story is about. It all depends on what you the viewer thinks and what you took from the story. Chances are what ever that is, is derived from your own life and experiences.
He was so so good in this film - I remember before I saw it I hadn't really seen him in anything and I thought he was kind of a 'B' grade actor, but this definitely made me realise how talented he is.
Jake's cool, and he's really intelligent in the roles he chooses, but I think even he didn't understand exactly what the movie was about himself -- which makes it all that more interesting. What a great character experience this must have been. From an actor's standpoint, this would have been the role of a lifetime.
THis movie is so amazing and i understand what he is talking about about ppl drawing their own conclusion of the movie.... great story line and it is movie you got to watch more than once
I long wondered, whether I should take DD at face value with everything about time travel, 'tangent universes' and so on or whether Donnie is simply mentally ill and halluzinates everything. Now I think, DD is more about being a fairy tale, where a 'hero' may spent some time in a place, whereas in real life he completed a whole life (or a decade long span of years). Jake's remark about DD being a journey is spot on. In the end, DD is a coming-of-age story wherein Donnie completes in 28 days things he would spent years on in real life.
I believe that what the director is trying to convey is that everything happens for a reason, if we try to stray from the path, people are "doomed" as the father says. As for Frank, The jet engine, and everything else that "happens" is really a play on a reality that isn't truly there. Donnie, the Schizophrenic boy, has hallucinations or we learn to find out that it is just a vivid dream that he has control over and finds out what would happen if he were to not die.
i just watched it earlier today for the first time. during the whole movie i was like, omg this makes no sense! then at the end im like, whoa i seriously love this movie :)
best movie ever, many can relate... jake gyllenhaal is a good fit for the role... donnie! donnie! donnie! i just watched it erlier this day, -researched about Prince of Persia and then he appeared i searched what movie he has made and i saw this.. after i saw the ending i cried because he died to save the world... :(
Donnie darko was a fantastic movie a found such great quality in this movie it in such away a un-explainable way you can relate to this film and for the spectators (young teens) who watch this film can created a relation, to most people maybe even all teens. iv had some bad experiences in my life and this movie just has a personal relation for me i love it its just to bad there are not many unique movies like this
When he did those things such as burn down the house etc. He was almost in a hypnotic state, he didn't realize what he was doing and he couldn't stop, so the story would probably replay itself.
let's face it. NOBODY understands the movie COMPLETELY. But that's the whole idea behind it. Kelly explained this numerous times. It's a great movie, and I am thankful it made it through all the barriers on its way. Kelly was stubborn, especially for a rookie filmmaker, but he did the right thing.
My opinion was that after all was said and done, at the end of the movie, Donnie got to see what would happen to his true love if he didnt die, and hence, he died for love.
@agata2604 my point of view on the dying alone quote is that Donnie in the end realised that he is anything but alone and just because no one shares death with him does not mean that he is alone
Jake is one of the most attractive people ever
IKR!!!
agreed
YEAH RIGHT?????😭
Agreed.
100%
I can't believe he was only 20 when he did this movie! He sounds so much more mature than that!
He seemed younger to me
from what I understand he was 16
@@50centgotshot9times born 1980. Movie done in 2000. 20.
the way he explains this movie is spot on. and thats what makes this movie so unbelievably good. the fact that a full movie theater could watch it over and over and everyone would see it differently. and it takes a while to understand it completely, and even once you do you still cannot explain it fully to other people. its a truly mesmerizing film.

I honestly can 100% agree with everything he said. He really described it in a way I couldn't, but have been wanting to for a long time. 10/10 nostalgia trip everytime.

I know he's not exactly the first person you'd think of as being an inspiration, but he's actually my idol! Jake Gyllenhaal, is my only celeb crush! He is funny, good looking and a very good actor!
I really love movies like Donnie Darko, they "force you to come to your own conclusion". They really make you think, and that's what we're missing with modern movies. No wonder why our society is so dumbed down now, because everyone is too lazy to think for themselves....

I cried too.He was amazing in this movie :)
He really wow'ed me in this film! He was so unbelievably believable.
I think it's insane how young Gyleenhaal and the director were when they made Donnie Darko. It's way better than their ages should allow.
Donnie Darko still my favorite movie in 2019 😂💞
I know, right!! Did you know they're working on a sequel with the original director and James Cameron might be involved?
His so fucking beautiful.
After 20 years I watched it for the first time

Donnie darko is my all time favourite mindbending movie ever from the year I born

I was twelve when this movie premiered, but i never saw it until recently. Also, jake and maggie - siblings portraying siblings - doesn't get any better than that, and they pull it off greatly.
beautiful movie beautiful person
I would love to meet Jake and discuss this movie with him. One of my favorites of the decade.
Wow 12 years ago u made this comment i miss my childhood!
I was 10 when u wrote this now im 22 almost 23
He described it as realistic and I’m not getting over that any time soon
The "Triumph" name on Jake's shirt has the same font of the one used in Stranger Things title!
I wonder where ST got the idea.......
The Stranger Things logo is actually inspired by Stephen Kings name on some books
Triumph is a motorcycle brand and that logo font was made public before WW2 even kicked off
Love this freakin movie. Not many can make you go WTF at the end. This ine screws with your head and feel the instant urge to watch it again. Jake is a great actor. Love his movies.

I could listen to him talk all day long. His thoughts intrigue me...
It was amazing.

The real Donnie Darko question is: Do you prefer the Theatrical release or the Directors cut?
Desde que aqui se veia que el seria el mejor actor de los últimos años lo almiro mucho ❤
excellent actor!
just saw it. he's right. it's an individual experience. sooo awesome.
"no one can come to any finite or objective conclusions..."
let's face it. NOBODY understands the movie COMPLETELY. But that's the whole idea behind it. Kelly explained this numerous times. It's a great movie, and I am thankful it made it through all the barriers on its way. Kelly was stubborn, especially for a rookie filmmaker, but he did the right thing.
That movie was so damn great :P
favourite film
My opinion was that after all was said and done, at the end of the movie, Donnie got to see what would happen to his true love if he didnt die, and hence, he died for love.
WOW! I think Jake lucked out!
This movie, I think, is the most influential space cadet movies ever
Jake Gyllenhaal ♥
he wasnt the only one and i never implied that he was, the name of the dialect is shakeperian
he blows my mind. :)
simple as that, it seems.
loved this movie
@agata2604 my point of view on the dying alone quote is that Donnie in the end realised that he is anything but alone and just because no one shares death with him does not mean that he is alone
love you Donnie/Jake/FutureHusband.
He's perfect.
I read about it online after I saw.
