  • Today we look at the TC 3rd Dimension, a clone of the famous and rare BOSS Dimension C, a gorgeous modulation pedal from the 80s known for adding depth and a 3d quality to your tone.
For more about the technology, Sean Costello talks about how it works in his blog post about his plugin UberMod as well as in the modes section (one of the modes emulates the Dimension D/C style)

Thank you for playing with overdrive, I can never get drive to play nicely with choruses but this is definitely different. Even bought the neunaber inspire and although it’s great still doesn’t like drive much

Definately different choruses react differently with drive, I prefer subtler choruses with less lfo movement usually with multiple voices like the dimension has for gain unless I am going for a particular sound such as Nirvana or Pink Floyd solos.

I've got this pedal, using it with the Line 6 DL4, some D style od's I think it sounds great through my Ceriatone SSS. It gas some depth to it, when you find the right combos for your sound

Glad you are enjoying it. I I think if they made it stereo (the circuit is but it's a mono pedal for some reason) it would be better

Hi is this chorus sound similar to the chorus of the Gallien Krueger 250 ML amp and the Rockman X 100 ? Thanks a lot.

The Dim-C uses two *counterswept* delay lines. As one sweeps towards a shorter delay, the other sweeps towards a longer one. The result is that as one goes a little sharp, the other always goes a little flat. There are several results from this. One is that, with two delay chips, you actually have something that more closely approximates a "chorus", because you now have *three* "voices" (one dry and two wet). The other is that we don't perceive the two delay voices as entirely flat OR sharp. So the "pitch wobble" that some dislike chorus for, is almost imperceptible.
I can't speak to the 3rd Dimension, but the earlier Behringer CC300 chorus (also a Dim-C clone) used a switch assembly that was not like the "radio" buttons on the actual Boss pedal. Pushing any button on the Dim-C disengaged all other buttons. On the CC300, you could engage as many or as few buttons as you wanted. My personal favorite setting was *no* buttons engaged, which produces a lovely slow Leslie-like tone. Ironic that the cheaper build quality yielded more sonic variety.

The Tc is the behringer rehoused and mono so the switches are the same. No buttons or 2 and 4 together are my favourites. And yes the two delay lines are inverse of each other so to our ears like you said the pitch wobble is cancelled out

@@JimijaymesProductions Well, not "cancelled out" electronically, but rather made MUCH less perceptible. Sadly, where the Behringer CC300 has two output jacks and is capable of stereo, the 3rd Dimension has but the one jack, and is (I assume) mono...not unless that solitary output jack is TRS.

do you know if this is a 100mA draw or 25mA? the pedal says 100mA on the chassis but the spec sheet says 25mA

Not sure generally the overstate on the pedal so you use it with a power supply capable of 100mA just to stay on the safe side, being modulation i'd try and use an isolated power supply and most are at least 100mA just because sometimes when you daisy chain with distortion pedals lfo clock noise can bleed through (I've had this issue with a few chorus pedals in the past)

I have the BOSS waza craft and as pricey as it is I was upset trying to hook it up to my tube amp and it still sounded very standard and not all that special if anything the T.C. Helicon’s 3rd Dimension sounds amazing for introductions but other than that BOSS dimension - c is a total rip off it is way over priced and sounds just like any other dimension pedal there isn’t any real difference ✨

The build quality of the waza craft stuff is great though especially if touring and it is stereo and had multimodes but if you don't need that this pedal will do the job. If I was touring and had the cash to spare I'd definately grab the waza but these days those sounds can generally be had for a lot less money.

this is a very underwhelming pedal! definitely worth paying more for something like the Waza

I agree that the WAZA is much much better it is also 3 times the price. I don't think it unusable but the WAZA Boss stuff is amazing! I think the CE-2W is better than 99% of boutique choruses based on the ce-2/ce-1.
