interesting comments about the control rod - must admit i wondered why it was not in this amazing kit if you sit in the actual cockpit you can see it between your legs!
I have watched another build of this kit and after your post showing that the wing spar had to be centered I noticed the builder follow the instructions and realized it appeared he might not be centered. Really good pickup Nigel on the build sequence/instructions
This looks like a Great kit Nigel , Takes me back to Christmas early 1970s when I was a kid I had the Airfix 1/24 spitfire ,and my younger brother had the ME 109 ,he was far too young and wasn't at all interested in kits tho,so my Dad built it for him , I don't usually build 1/24 aircraft because of lack of space to display them ,but this one could tempt me ,just for that trip down memory lane .
Very nicely done Nigel. I like the close up of you working it gives us I think a very ditailed picture of what you are talking about and showing us so thank you. Looking forward to seeing part 6.
Great to see an Airfix kit going together so well. I think Airfix have really moved up a notch in terms of quality and can now hold their own against some of the more well know opposition. This is also a build series that so many more of us can relate to as the kit is so much more accessible in terms of cost and availability. Thanks for keeping it OOB as well!
So many tips that are invaluable Nige - like not putting too much glue lower down on the cockpit tub so that you maintain the ability to flex the wing roots later to help with fit. Thanks again
Another few rungs up the stairway to heaven, Nige. My love for this kit keeps on growing with every instalment so there is no chance now of me not getting one, probably in the new year. I like the zoomed in look. I'd always assumed it couldn't be done without interfering with your access to the model.
Haven’t been commenting of late but have been managing to watch when I have a free minute as our son is visiting from New York, so have been busy with family stuff and Christmas preparations. Cockpit tub is really nice. Looks like Santa is bringing me one of these kits, looking forward to the rest of this build. Cheers and woof to Jess, and take care of that cold.
Great video my friend the spitfire is looking fantastic really like your approach to your builds keep test fitting is great advice the end result is well worth it when it all fits together nicely and now it’s all glued together you still can see plenty in the cockpit really enjoying following your progress and plenty of tips along the way thanks for sharing 👍👍
Hi Nigel, my kit arrived today all safe and sound.. I have to say the surface detail is absolutely amazing.. If their kits are like this in the future then they will be right up there with the best.
Nigel+ you are right people rushing to get there kits done first you know as well as I do you never rush building these models that's how you can screw things up and make more work for yourself always take it slow 🦥 and in the end you end up with a nicely built model especially with a kit like this I've always like airfix kits even the older one in 1/24 scale inspit of there issues keep up the great work looking forward to the next installment of this build I downloaded your videos of the hellcat build to as I will use them for reference on any issues that I might come across while I work on that kit god it's a great kit but I've got 5 builds I have to finish first god bless happy holidays and a marry Christmas to you and all of your love ones
Thoroughly enjoyed this latest update. A very pleasant way to pass the time, thanks. The cockpit tub has turned out beautifully and it's a joy to hear your enthusiasm and pleasure as you make your way through this kit. Good job, keep it up. 👍
Hi Nige, I came across this book. Spitfire Mk.IX & Mk.XVI Engineered by Paul Monforton. Quite extensive, 432 pages. 900 photos. I downloaded the pdf format for $27.50 Canadian. Thought you would enjoy this.
Another fab video. Lots of wooden ship modellers revers pegs. Mantua Models Clamping Pegs apply a lot more force and there wide shape can be helpful I love them, when I remember I have them!
Must say, that kit looks looks pretty nice. Only about 100x what I was expecting. Going to have to add that one to the kit stash. Parts of the build remind me of the Tamiya kit. I am interested in seeing how airfix handles the engine covers and fitting engine to fuselage. Good work Nigel. You have been knocking it out of the park of late!
MERRY CHRISTMAS Nigel! From one of your biggest fans, I simply love your videos and the fact that you take the time to show people the right way. Judy from Nova Scotia, Canada
Am I having a deja vie moment, did I see the engine build in the last video? Loving the progress and I don’t think you’ve been this enthusiastic since the Stuka build. A couple of noteworthy points, firstly on the iPad and other devices you can zoom in on the you tube app either to fill the frame or right into any part of the screen. 2nd thing is that Airfix have the starboard magneto connected to both the inlet and SB exhaust plugs. The port magneto does exhaust plugs and the starboard mag the inlet plugs.
The big black box is definitely the radio Nige. I believe the battery was low down in the fuselage quite far back, nearer the tailwheel that the cockpit.
Would have been good to have the armoured cover as a single separate piece which would have eliminated the seam and given us a nice round filler hole too.
Nigel, regarding the "zoom in", I have (at least) two problems with it: 1) When you refer to the instruction manual, you often just partially pull it in from the left side. With the reduced field of view, we can't see what you're referring to in the manual. 2) The kit is do darn big, that with the reduced field of view, pieces of the model which you're working on are sometimes out of shot either to the left or right (particularly when dealing with the wing in this video). The other problem I see (not related to zooming in) is what appears to be the ever-increasing length of the videos being posted. This one, at1 hour, 24 minutes is so long as to require viewing the whole thing in multiple sessions. I started this one before I had to leave for work, getting about half way through it, and then had to watch the rest after i got home from work. I would encourage you to consider the idea of releasing videos on the order of (roughly) 45 - 50 minutes in length. Also, releasing multiple, lengthy videos within a brief period of time makes it really difficult to keep up with all of them - there's just not enough time in the day! Having said that, I really love the work you're dong on all of the kits you have going simultaneously - the Spitfire, the Lancaster, and the K2 ambulance, and I'm learning useful information about your approach to dealing with kit issues from each one.
have you looked at the panels over the cannons yet seems theres an issue there of not being able to close them if you build the full cannon seems they built it with no option but to have both open or closed but not one open one closed
Not sure what you mean Steve, "one open, one closed"? The "motor" that feed the ammo is to be fitted when the cover is off, not fitted when the cover is on?
if you build cannon as per instructions the cover will not close so you have to ever leave parts off the cannon or slightly whittle inside of cover to close wing
Hello Nigel! So my dad loves your video's, and his birthday is coming up. Is there any chance for you to make a birthday video (Not public) for him? Pls reply if yes!
The. closer view is great. It’s allowing us to see more detail on what you are doing.👍
Ok thanks!
I do prefer the close-up setting - great video by the way
Thumbs up for the "zoomed-in" aspect Nige.
interesting comments about the control rod - must admit i wondered why it was not in this amazing kit if you sit in the actual cockpit you can see it between your legs!
LOVE the closer vantage point, allows the viewer to really see what you're doing. Well done!
Glad you liked it!

Got to admit this zoomed-in view is pretty good, Nigel,

Hi Nigel, my kit arrived today all safe and sound.. I have to say the surface detail is absolutely amazing.. If their kits are like this in the future then they will be right up there with the best.
Please have a look at your left vs right fuselage half along the spine and see what you think of the rivet detail. mine is awful on the right side.
@@NigelsModellingBench Mine looks ok, no different to the left.. maybe you have a rouge sprue..

Yes.. the engine was a bonus video.. Of course.. the set up with the mag's is correct on the WNW lanc.

Yeah 5th part here! I'm building Spitfire too, but it's 1/72 PR.XIX)

Masking fluid ? Use PVA release agent, water soluble !

My pleasure
Nigel, regarding the "zoom in", I have (at least) two problems with it: 1) When you refer to the instruction manual, you often just partially pull it in from the left side. Not sure what you mean Steve, "one open, one closed"? The "motor" that feed the ammo is to be fitted when the cover is off, not fitted when the cover is on?
looking good. Is the dummy engine made from extra parts in the kit so the complete engine can be built separately?
Unfortunately not. the same parts are used.
if you build cannon as per instructions the cover will not close so you have to ever leave parts off the cannon or slightly whittle inside of cover to close wing
Yeah Steve. it does tell you to leave parts out if the doors are to be closed.. I have a second option.... in part 7.
Nigel, have you completed this Spitfire, yet? If so, I appear to have missed the video.
DGD
Part 16 went up tonight.
Hi Nigel
Step 24 tells you to install the horizontal bulkhead. Doesn’t this aid in the location of the aft bulkhead. Why would you skip it?
I added it after I knew the bulkheads are vertically aligned looking from the rear.
👍👍
Sent you a Facebook message Nige, it's definitely a radio (VHF).
Great tutorial videos, however, did you forget the tail wheel
Yes, I have explained why I am leaving it out.
Hello Nigel! So my dad loves your video's, and his birthday is coming up. Is there any chance for you to make a birthday video (Not public) for him? Pls reply if yes!
