I have made the little round, puffy scrubbies from this yarn and they are great. When I made the dishcloth, I combined two strands, one of cotton dishcloth yarn and one of the scrubby yarn. That works great for a regular dishcloth. I liked mine so much that I made several sets in different colors as small stocking stuffers and everyone seems to love them.
Incorporating the cotton yarn with the scrubby yarn makes it so much easier to see the stitches. I like to start with a new set of crocheted dishcloths, scrubbies, and quilted potholders each year. I purchased a mixed six pack of a brightly colored scrubby yarn from Temu and it saved me quite a bit of money.
My darling husband bought me the red heart scrubby book and some yarn. I was a bit scared of it at first but my confidence grew and I made a rubber ducky shape and it turned out so cute and he has great scrubby power.
I find it helpful to occasionally hold it up to a light to see if the stitches are looking even, as it's so easy to miss a stitch. I LOVE the feel of these, love how easily they dry, and that I can easily toss these in my dishwasher. Thank you for your clear teaching, Jayda!
Thank you so much for this! It gave me 'permission' to go easy on myself as I was ready to toss this across the room! I'm not a new crocheter and I was trying one of the flower scrubbies from your website and well, forget it. This tutorial I could manage with this yarn. Not relaxing to work with by any means but I love washing my dishes with them so square they are going to be!
Hi Debbie! I found using the larger hook was absolutely necessary with this "yarn" LOL. It makes a fantastic scrubber, but it is a little tricky to work with!
agree devon....i have polyester and cotton scrubby's ...love, love the cotton ones...the cloth jayda made today was a little on the large side, but it will do a good job. these can also be used to exfoliate your skin in the shower, like a loofah. i made a long one to use as a back scrubby.
I bought the scrubby yarn that was cotton and not polyester, and made myself a scrubby cloth for bathing. It came out perfect so I'll make a few more. So I went shopping a 2nd time and got the polyester version and soon I'll make a couple dishcloths. I am a novice at crocheting, but this was very easy and quick. Thank you for the easy to understand tutorials.
I've been searching for this!! I purchased 2 of these scrubbies at a craft fair. The lady was advertising them as dish scrubbies but mentioned using them in the shower. That's what sold me. I bought 2 and have one away with bath items.
I have used this yarn for dishcloths. I like it. You are right about it being challenging! I’ll will continue to use it. Thanks for your review and pattern.
I am making the first one now & it looks so nice. I'm going to gift it our son. Plan on giving him 3-4 of them in a couple of colors. I think he'll like & use them.
Thank you for the tutorial. I just made a scrubby this morning using a Red Heart peach color that I found at the Dolllar Tree of all places. I bought two skeins. Based on your comments, I used a 6.5 mm hook, and it was perfect. I plan to make the round scrubbies as well. I have plenty of time to knit, crochet, cross-stitch, etc. during the Illinois "stay-in-place" order by our Governor.
I am a beginner at crochet projects . but I do want to make my own scrubbies. This seems like a great starting project. I will practice first before I try with the scrubbie yarn. Thanks so much. (so relieved that mistakes are okay!)
Hi Jayda and Mr. InStitches. Tried this and upsized to 6.5. Interesting texture and pretty heavy dishcloth. Not easy to work with but with your video as guidance, came out fine. Gorgeous bright yellow color. Thanks. 😊
I had trouble with this yarn so I used a strand of cotton yarn with it and it was much easier to see the stitches. It also gave the scrubby a softness.
I LOVE the scrubby yarn, I combine it with 100% cotton, I do 3 rounds for the eye make-up remover, 4 rounds for the face scrubby and 5 rounds for the bath scrubby, I make them double, one side has both yarns and one side only the cotton, then with wrong sides together(one of each) I crochet them together with and sc or a reverse sc. When I use the heavy #6 cotton then I make them single. I have crochet up over 100 balls already, these make lovely gifts, I get many compliments, they are also great for craft sales, easy to sell. I love making the sets
I made a dishcloth from a pattern that makes it a cotton dishcloth on one side and a scrubby cloth on the other. You crochet alternating rows in front or back loops so all the open loops are all on the same side then you sc the scrubby yarn in each of the open loops along the rows going back and forth like you did the original cloth. It makes an amazing cloth that's perfect for scrubbing dishes and cleaning countertops where you need a little extra for the odd drop that someone left to dry on. And it won't scratch surfaces.
Thank you, I have the scrubby sparkle yarn and it is hard on the fingers. I hope to give them out as gifts and some as stocking stuffers in December. You are a wonderful teacher.
I’ve made these in a poof pattern and I love them. I really like that sparkle scrubbie yarn, it is great scrubbing my dishes with, and it doesn’t absorb water.
Hi Jayda! Great tutorial and review! I bought a bunch of this yarn quite a while ago for this very purpose but as of yet haven’t done anything with it. This is great! I’ll have to give it a try with this nice basic pattern. I love making dishcloths! I agree that the crochet ones are more dense than the knitted ones. Thanks for sharing!
HI Thea! I like the one my mother in law made us, but I definitely prefer the thickness of the crochet version over the knit, I feel like it might scrub harder LOL
I think you are probably right Jayda. I was going to make one today but the yarn is buried in one of my containers so there wasn’t time to find it, lol.
I used the scrubby yarn to make some rose-shaped shower loofas. They turned out so cute and they work really well, so I used some as stocking stuffers for the girls in my family.
Hey Jayda. Nice cloth!! I’ve made some using cotton yarns with the scrubbie yarn. Turn out real nice. Include dish towels, pot holders, scrubbies, and towel holder as gift sets. Big hits!! I have tons of towels I bought at dollar stores n lots of cotton yarn n scrubbie yarns to match up w/the cottons Great video, as usual. I prefer using larger hook’s with this stuff!! Lol
I crocheted a dishcloth with the scrubby yarn a couple years ago and ended up using it in the shower as a hand made loofah......I wash it in the washing machine in hot water with my white clothes. It is holding up better than any store bought shower cloth.
I made 15 loofah poofs with this yarn for Christmas gifts, they turned out nice. I’ve made Holiday themed dishcloths with it for bridal shower gifts too, everyone seems to like them. Thanks for the tutorial 😀
Hello from Montreal! Love your channel and thank you so much for your tutorials! By coincidence I made one of these last week. , but did it in single crochet , it turned Out well but it was almost like crocheting blind ! Lol 😉 Next cloth will be done in half Double crochet! I made mine in white with a blue border and hook , they work really well . Keep warm and thanks again 👍
Hi Jayda I will give it a try and see how it works I never made I dish cloth before or I never tried that scrubby yarn but I'm willing to give it a good try
Hi Kathy! I found it easier to work with when using a larger hook (so I could more easily see the stitches) but I enjoyed working with the texture and it scrubs well!
Funny project. Need to find that yarn here. We have some Red Heart yarn here in Finland but not all. And nice how colour of your shirt matches the yarn you used 😊.
Thank you! For the review 👍 I'm always cleaning the kitchen. 🍴 Will be trying out the yarn. Love the video 💜👏👏 so beautiful seeing the yarn fall from the basket .
I was curious about the Scrubby yarn and got some before Christmas. I made a scrubby using a pattern I found online; it was a circle, about 4” in diameter, double thickness. (Similar construction to Jayda’s retro potholder.) The recipient loved it but I haven’t made one since.
Hi Jayda 'n Mr.Institches! *waving frantically* - 😊 Jayda kudos, whoop, whoop! You are the woman! Award (insert sing song voice) 🏆🏆 I've seen the yarn at the store, and... kept on walking, lol You make it look easy, you could not pay me enough! I would be throwing the skein at the wall first, then the trash! LOL 🤣🤣 I know my limitations, this challenge? Nope, not happening, lol
Hi Afroditi! Mr. InStitches doesn't like the sound of this yarn LOL, but he has to admit that it makes a pretty decent dishcloth :) It's definitely a bit challenging to work with though!!
I've found working with this yarn that doing a circle was easier for me to make then a square. My mom absolutely loves when I make her a scrubbie. She always let's me know when hers is getting yucky so I can make her another. lol
I really do not care fot this yarn, but have made a few dishcloths with it and I love to use them, therefore, like it or not, I am making dishcloths with it.😅 I just made one a few minutes ago using a K hook. Larger hook really helped.
Hi Edlisia! It's pretty unique stuff. I wasn't so sure of it at first, but I got around to enjoying working with it...but I think my favourite thing about it is the sound it makes when it taps against the table!
I have been hesitant to buy this yarn because i just didn't know how it would work up. Now I'm excited to go get some and give it a try. I wonder how it would turn out if I work it together with a cotton yarn.
@@kellydrummer3285 Thanks! I thought I had seen some somewhere. I wonder tho how it would turn out if you held the scrubbie yarn together with a cotton. So it would have more srubbieness than a regular wash cloth but not quite as much as the scrubbie by itself. I'm thinking maybe good exfoliating for my winter dry skin.
I don't know if I got the answer yet but I would love to know where you got your scissors also I love all your videos I'm a beginner crochet and I learn by watching I'm not good at reading pattern so thank you very much
Hi Kelli! My mother in law got me those, I think she found them at Fabricland, but other folks have found those Fairy Embroidery Scissors on Amazon too :)
Jayda, thank you for your expert tutorial. I think I'll make a smaller version, this yarn irritates my skin too much to make a larger version as you have done
Hi Jayda We are following you from Egypt both me and my daughter and we like your tutorials very much We would like you to make more videos about crochet toys
Hi Mona, Thank you for watching and for the suggestion :) If you want to check out some of the toy videos we've already done (and we have a LOT!) you can see our entire playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLU-tvdaf-Fne5QbcqVLybiDO2Te3dh7l0
Thank you for sharing this terrific pattern! It was neat since I recieved some of the yarn today for my birthday! Now I can enjoy it this weekend! Happy Friday! ❤xo💜xo💙xo💛xo💖xo💚
Hey Jayda, I love cotton & even though I deal sensitive skin , hands I love scrubby! I have to mention I've not used the cotton scrubby, I love the shine & workability in the kitchen & elsewhere of the reg scrubby. I have a design that gets into things , I dunno, I think it works harder because it's not on dimensional.. if that makes sense!LOL I actually popped in to say once you practiced with the looser st's you can do reg ones and you'll recognize where the ST's are as well as you'll feel them. ( I don't need that light touch with it..again even with sensitive issues beyond the norm! asin hooks cause pain against skin ya, I'm an odd duck lol. I feel personally it's a new texture & it takes getting used to it. Less of a grasp in your yarn holding , non working hand and then it glides quick n easy. LOL just how it works / I work with it. Try patterning it with reg cotton J, It looks great and you get the W. Horse at the same time. Ahh , Like everything else there are endless Ideas n uses. This lil yella scrubby might be like one of your lil crochet characters and begin dancing about in your dreams bringing you a whole new series of tutes, vids while you explore those dreams ..a bouncy fun explosion of scrubbiessss .. HAVE FUN! lol (u prob already are he hee)
HI Kathleen! It definitely took a little getting use too, I found I was zipping along quite quickly after a few rows :) I like the weight of the cloth!
@@JaydaInStitches so happy your enjoying that texture and well, I cal it the YUM FACTOR 😊 WHEN A IT FEELS GOOD. WORKS EVEN BETTER IT'S YUMMY. LOLOL OOPs caps, ther more you use it. Three more ideas you'll have for new and fun things. Can't wait God Bless ❣
Thank you, Jayda, for showing me how 'easy' it is to crochet one of these. I've been making a lot of dish cloths...started out knitting them then switched to crochet, which I've been doing ever since because it's so much easier and faster to complete one (although it does take twice the amount of yarn :-\). I've also knitted several of the scrubbies because I found it too difficult to crochet them with all of the 'hairiness' of that yarn. However, after watching you crochet one, I will try again because I'm way behind on them. I'm paring two cotton dish rags and one scrubby to give as gifts and, hopefully, to start selling. Gotta somehow pay for all this yarn!!! :-O :-D Thanks again. Blessings...
I love the Scrubby made this way. I originally learned to make it knitted but I prefer this crochet version. I also tried the Scrubby cotton and didn't like it because it absorption much water. Some people make these smaller too make face Scrubby.
Jayda- Have you ever tried the sugar n cream cotton yarn? I’ve only heard you talk about crafter cotton, some red heart thing. . . Bernat? The sugar n cream is the only cotton I’ve ever used, and if you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it! After all, you don’t have any cotton. 😉
I was wondering if you've ever crochet a scrubby out of tulle? I've seen videos on it but I'm very skeptical as to how well it would work as a dish scrubby. And also how well it would hold up.
Hi Jessica! I'm not even sure I've seen tulle for sale, except in large bolts at the fabric store, is that what they're using? It's plastic, so it might scrub!
@@JaydaInStitches The videos I have seen they use a 6 inch X 25 - 31 yard spool. I know here I can get it at Wal-Mart, both in store and on line. But, Yes it is the same stuff as in the fabric stores just smaller amounts. :)
Thus far, I've found RH Scrubby (and Yarn Bee Scrubology, a "clone" from Hobby Lobby) much easier to crochet with if I hold it double with a strand of regular "kitchen cotton" yarn. For a scrubby yarn used by itself, I prefer Mary Maxim Scrub-It, which is a cotton tape yarn with a scrubby edge. I currently have my RH Scrubby/Yarn Bee Scrubology stash bagged up to sell on eBay -- but I'll wait until I've finished watching your review to decide if I should reconsider that decision.
Hi! I usually count on getting 2 solid dishcloths out of a single ball. Some of them are a little larger, so you might get 3, it depends on your tension :)
I like this idea, make your own instead of buying at the store. Would like to try it on my body to. Jayda, I would also like to try to create your Big Beautiful Bag, but I don't know what is 300 grams per ball of yarn in yards? Thank you for your help. Love you and your tutorials. Lori Schreiner USA
300 grams equals about 10.6 ounces. The number of yards will depend on the thickness of the yarn you use. I believe the giant bag was made with worsted weight yarn.
They make amazing pot scrubbies but my poor hands suffer when I use the stuff. I swear it's like working with a cactus! lol Where did you get that yarn needle?! I have the Susan Bates finishing needles that work ok, but that one looks awesome.
I did the same too. So much easier.
Those sound great!

I heard scrubby yarn was horrible. But your half double crochet made this a breeze. My family loves them. Thanks your tutorials are always awesome!
That's super! Thank you for watching :)

Hi! Thank you for watching 😊
love this yarn - i have made several in round, oval, and square - lasts forever and never gets smelly.
good point Joanna! It's Polyester, so there's nowhere for bacteria to hide!
I also combine the scrubby yarn with regular cotton yarn - makes it easier to crochet and gives the cloth more "body." 😘
Great idea thanks 👍
That's a great idea!
Coincidental timing ... I was looking for a dishcloth pattern and DING! there it was. Love it!
This might be a case of "great minds think alike" :)

I have used this yarn for dishcloths. I like it. You are right about it being challenging! I’ll will continue to use it. Thanks for your review and pattern.

Hi! They're super useful 😊 Thank you for watching!
Hi Edlisia! It's pretty unique stuff. I wasn't so sure of it at first, but I got around to enjoying working with it...but I think my favourite thing about it is the sound it makes when it taps against the table!
@@JaydaInStitches Lol me to plus if you rub it back and forth against it's self it remind's me of a nail emery board lol
I can see a nice oldfashioned teddy bear out of it:)
Love this pattern! Made some round ones a few years ago! Thank you so much!
Hi Dawn, simple is the plan when it comes to novelty yarn :) Makes a really great cloth!
This also makes a great exfoliating face cloth!
That’s very pretty. I will have to try this. Thanks Jayda
Hi Kathy! I really love that bright yellow!
I love this project. Definitely going to try this one if I can find the yarn.
I use one strand red heart scrubby and one strand of regular red heart cotton and I crochet them together
Jayda, thank you for your expert tutorial. I think I'll make a smaller version, this yarn irritates my skin too much to make a larger version as you have done
Hi Jayda
We are following you from Egypt both me and my daughter and we like your tutorials very much
We would like you to make more videos about crochet toys
Hi Mona, Thank you for watching and for the suggestion :) If you want to check out some of the toy videos we've already done (and we have a LOT!) you can see our entire playlist here: ruclips.net/p/PLU-tvdaf-Fne5QbcqVLybiDO2Te3dh7l0
Thank you for sharing this terrific pattern! It was neat since I recieved some of the yarn today for my birthday! Now I can enjoy it this weekend! Happy Friday! ❤xo💜xo💙xo💛xo💖xo💚
Happy Birthday Lala!
Thank you both!! ❤xo💜xo💙xo💛xo💖xo
I love every you make! Thanks for teaching me to crochet!
Hi Allie! Thank you for watching :)
I've tried to use this yarn but it was too fiddly. Ill give it another try. Great video👍🏾♥️
I find using a larger than normal hook helps quite a bit 😊
It's definitely a fun yarn to work with once you get the hang of it! makes a great scrub cloth!
I love the Scrubby made this way. I originally learned to make it knitted but I prefer this crochet version. I also tried the Scrubby cotton and didn't like it because it absorption much water. Some people make these smaller too make face Scrubby.
Jayda-
Have you ever tried the sugar n cream cotton yarn? I’ve only heard you talk about crafter cotton, some red heart thing. . . Bernat?
The sugar n cream is the only cotton I’ve ever used, and if you haven’t tried it yet, I highly recommend it!
After all, you don’t have any cotton.
😉
Hi Toby! I've been eyeing the sugar n cream yarn on line since we can't find it locally!
I don’t thunk my vision...or lack thereof😊...will allow me to use this yarn... But... Thanks for the review..
I FOUND IT EASIER TO KNIT WITH THIS YARN. THAT WAY THE STITCHES ARE MORE VISABLE.
Great video !!
Can you use do a 💗 dishcloth for valentines day pleae
carla jeronimo yes please!!!
Hey that dish cloth idea is great thank you !
Hi Susan, Thank you for watching 😊
Just bought some! Thanks for the info!
Thank you for watching 😊
We're going to have to look for some cotton scrubby yarn to try!
Gracias muy linda la cuadrada .. yo tambien las hago redondas Y tambien mas pequeñas de 25 cadenetas Por 7 carreras
Bellisimas Gracias
Thank you for watching 😊
How many wash clothes were you able to make with one ball of yarn?
Hi! I usually count on getting 2 solid dishcloths out of a single ball. Some of them are a little larger, so you might get 3, it depends on your tension :)
I had a hell of a time crocheting the stuff didn't think to use a larger size tho good tip
I definitely recommend the bigger hook! The next one I make I'll use a bigger hook than I did in this tutorial :)
Hi jayda great job but I think I will give this one a miss I'm not so good with the textured yarns on my hands I have itchy problems lol 😊Amanda xx
HI Amanda! It's definitely not for everyone! :)
I like this idea, make your own instead of buying at the store. Would like to try it on my body to. Jayda, I
would also like to try to create your Big Beautiful Bag, but I don't know what is 300 grams per ball of yarn in yards? Thank you for your help. Love you and your tutorials. Lori Schreiner USA
300 grams equals about 10.6 ounces. The number of yards will depend on the thickness of the yarn you use. I believe the giant bag was made with worsted weight yarn.
Hi Lori, if you're using worsted/medium size 4 weight yarn, you'll want approximately 550 yards per colour :)
Thanks for sharing this tutorial great job. 👍😊
I’m new, I tried to make donut shapes, it felt impossible! Thank you for this video. 😁👍🏻
Hi Samantha! When it comes to the novelty yarn, I like to stick to the simple stitches and shapes, it saves a lot of cursing LOL
I was thinking about using as a scrubby for my face and body.
I have made scrubs with tule. Did you make your sweater? It is very pretty
What a neat combo! No I didn't :)
cool scrubbie, where do you get your yarn needle? I like it.
Hi Sandra, we did a video on places you can find wool needles here: ruclips.net/video/0EWXaWWffxc/видео.html Thank you for watching!
Great idea Quacktatty!
* giggle *
I realize I'm late to the party (Hahaha), however, your tutorial rocks!!! Thanks, Jayda!!!
Hi Carole! Thank you for watching :)
Half double crochet is smart!
Where can I get yarn needles like you use. Love your videos.
Hi Sharon, we did a video on all the places you can find wool needles: ruclips.net/video/0EWXaWWffxc/видео.html Thank you for watching!
They make amazing pot scrubbies but my poor hands suffer when I use the stuff. I swear it's like working with a cactus! lol Where did you get that yarn needle?! I have the Susan Bates finishing needles that work ok, but that one looks awesome.
They’re called “wool needles.”
If you have a Hobby Lobby near you they just recently started to carry them too. And I love mine.
Hi Tara, you can find wool needles in a lot of places, we have a video on it here: ruclips.net/video/0EWXaWWffxc/видео.html :)
Thanks! I have some I haven’t used yet.
another "stash" buster!
