  • This is a story of how God can change an orphaned immigrant into a queen.
    This video is designed to be used as a basis of a small group study. When you have gathered your group begin with prayer.
    Icebreaker: Tell about a surprising promotion.
    Watch the video, try to retell the story from what you heard, then read the text Esther 1:1-2:18. If time is short read 2:1-18. Then use the questions below to spark some conversation.

    5. What favor does Esther gain in the beauty preparations?

    3. The women for the queenship beauty pageant were probably conscripted or forced to participate. What might Esther have experienced as she was taken to the king's palace?
    4. How do you see Mordecai worrying about Esther's situation? What does this tell you about the relationship between Mordecai and Esther?
    5. Esther was an orphaned immigrant, what do you think it would have been like to live with other women desiring to be queen? What do you think the atmosphere there would have been as the women competed to be queen?
    6. Why do you think Mordecai told her to hide the fact that she was Jewish? What does the fact that she obeyed tell you about her?
    7. Why do you think Esther won such favor with Hegai?
    8. What does the fact that Esther only took what Hegai recommended with her to meet the king tell you about her?
