That shows you do not understand the extent / reach and power of the Roman Empire . This quite factual that the Romans did in fact import exotic animals into the Colleseum for battle entertainment value. I do think the feminization of the Roman Empire was not historically accurate. That was something the Romans ridiculed the Greeks for.

Didn't understand why Lucius sought revenge for his dead wife in this movie. His wife was a soldier and fought along side him in battles. Getting killed in battles is a possibility that comes with the territory of being a soldier. If he truly loved her, then he wouldn't let her fight.
I think you were right on, I just saw the second one today and I saw the first one yesterday for the second time and they are just very similar. It’s like gladiator two is a mini me of gladiator one and after seeing gladiator one there wasn’t anything surprising except for the rhino but that was neat but not real surprising so I agree with you it was good, probably people would love it, especially if they weren’t old enough to see gladiator when it came out we’ll see what the Box office says but I did like your explanation and your reading.
1st Gladiator really hit home with me..Russel Crowe's emotions (All of the Love,Hate,Revenge,Compassion) really came out in that movie..And Joaquin was a great villain.. I haven't seen the sequel but it will be hard to beat the original.. Great analysis and editing of gladiator clips! You did a great job showing Maximus emotional motivation though out the movie.
Yeah when I read the plot synopsis for Gladiator 2 I was like this sounds exactly like the plot for the first movie TF ?! 😂, but after watching Gladiator 2 it's pretty damn good yeah definitely not better than Gladiator 1 but still awesome and in my opinion I would be down to see a Gladiator 3 but Ridley Scott desperately needs to do something radically different than man's wife and or kid gets killed , he gets sold to become a slave , he becomes a Gladiator and goes on a whole vengeance quest to avenge his family like at this point it's becoming boring and repetitive like c'mon Ridley let's spice things up for the third movie.

Great video of your thoughts! I believe and feel Gladiator is a beautiful movie that didn’t warrant a sequel. For me it was so well done and holds up so amazingly! When I walked out of seeing Gladiator II, I just didn’t feel I gained anything nor walked away with something special, I understood to have flashbacks and use Gladiator footage to give context what happened but for me that was the weakness of II. The pacing was too fast as well, it just keep cutting from scene to scene, I couldn’t get emotionally invested in anyone that deep, it relied heavily too much on I, I mean of course it’s too good but this is an example when there is sequels, either they stand alone amazingly without having to ride the waves of the first so much or they just don’t have the same “never seen before” experience. I enjoyed it for what it tried to do, but I wouldn’t rewatch it to be honest, it just makes me want to watch the original more. I give it like ⭐️⭐️ and a half. Thank you all! 👍🙏😄
So many criticize G2 and not holding up to the "great" G1. Might it be more that you are now older and more jaded because I was 40 when G1 came out. Entertaining but on Citizen Kane. Let the kids of today have this one as their childhood epic. Lighten up, neither movie is a documentary.

Glad 2 these 2 guys show up as joint emporers with near zero context or any real relevance. Second major difference far higher quality acting in Glad1, Crowe, Reed, Harris, Phoenix. Glad 2 Denzel Washington is good but rest of cast is ok only

No, I disagree with you. I LOVED the first movie, so did the world! Gladiator 2 was a poor shadow of the first one. Characters were half developed, plot is meh, Lucious “commanding” the legions- that’s just funny. No prior ties to Rome (in battle), no real connections to shaken, ugh! Just lazy writing. A sequel was unneeded. But we got one and it was great. The director knew he couldn't make Gladiator ever again and decided to just make a great movie in tribute to the first. The original is one of the greatest films ever ever ever........so the intention was never to make Gladiator 2 on par with the Original and yet by itself and as a fond tribute and afternote to the plot of Maximus.........muah 😘
Also F to the U for anyone that hates on G2, criticize it all day long, but seriously man, show some love for the finer points and how it served as tribute and a follow-up note to the original, and just a really good film on its own. All hail Maximus

I enjoyed both. I think I enjoyed Gladiator 2 even more. Paul’s performance is more physical, and he portrays both strong and vulnerable beautifully. Russell is all strong, no light and dark, just strong.
G2 was entertaining but not the equal of G1. G2 needed better writers. In all of Hollywood they couldn’t have found someone closer in looks to be Maximus son? I’m sure Denzel must have enjoyed playing villain but they didn’t flesh out his story. The 16 year interval needed more explanation because Maximus gave his life for a better Rome. What happened? WHO dropped the ball? I like Pasquale but I didn’t like him in this role.

Oddly, the character that Maximus is (very) loosely based on is Marcus Macrinus, who was a Senator and friend of Marcus Aurelius .
