I agree with Kristine Harder. I am Brunette and trying to grow out to natural grey color. I don't seem to have any colorists in my area that have a clue how to help me transition. Love what you did with your mom. Blessed mom, blessed daughter!
Because brunette and gray stand out so much you probably wouldn’t be able to blend but you would have to go to a lighter color overall with highlights. That’s what I did to my client she is now a level 6 with ginger highlights and a money piece that is gold in the front because most of her hair grows in grey in the front. It goes with the golden times in her skin.
@@purplegirl8036 You could add darker lowlights and be more heavy on the lowlights then the highlights, like doing 2 lowlights to a highlight or alternating one to one while doing small, babylight-like pieces for the highlights. You could also tone the highlights to be a darker tone of grey.
I did a couple backwards today, I may try it more it worked well. I have been doing hair 35 years and work by myself so I love watching the way other people do things to try something new, thank u for sharing your ideas.
I did this on my mom today and it worked out so well. She loved it. She used to just do an 8N root touch up all over and then when her hair would grow out she would get the line of demarcation. I told her this way when it grows out the gray won’t be so obvious. Thank you!
I love to watch you do your mom's hair. You are so patient. I let my hair grow out about four years ago. It came in a pretty PLATINUM blonde color. It came in naturally wavy too. Thank you Jamie! I've been doing hair for 36 years, and you are my tutorial "go to," when i need inspiration. I love the tips on the baby lights around the face. I turn my clients around and foil from face to crown like you did. Most of my clients have a significant amount of grey, and this is a good alternative to coloring the entire head and highlighting over it. thanks again!
I’m not a stylist, but I get highlights done to my hair, so it was so instructional to see and hear you explain the method. You did a very good job and your mom’s already lovely hair turned out beautifully.
Beautiful work! My mom and several friends had something similar to this done when they were growing out their gray. It's genius! It really made their grow out process/transition to gray a lot easier.

So easy and to the point, everything you say do makes so much sense. Looking forward to applying new ways to my craft. Wish you were around 20 years ago!!! Cheers from Canada.
It’s GORGEOUS. You are SMART! I know your mom is so proud of you. I now have a new appreciation for what my hairstylist does! She’s 23, she’s amazing like you. She doesn’t foil, but gives amazing cuts. I’m a coffee brunette going naturally grey and mine is blending out great so far. It’s the way she’s cutting my hair that’s making all the difference on me at this point. It’s long and thick and she “texturizes” it- and gives me a few layers. At-a-girl!🎯 Enjoyed!!!♥️💇🏻♀️

I'm going to try this on my mother! We color her hair every 4 weeks and no kidding she literally has an inch of grow out each time. We normally do a level 6 on the root and a highlight throughout. But as much as I love my mother I hate doing her hair every 4 weeks. Her hair grows in pure white but I'm sure that we can manage with just highlights and lowlights. Worth a shot. I guess if it really needs a root color we can always put that on afterwards.
Britney Reynolds girl same! My mom is every 3 weeks!!! I do a root retouch and balayage every 3rd time...love her, she’s my most regular & high maintenance client😂
Whaaa….surely you are joking. Every “gray blending color” is for dark hair, it looks freaking fantastic…salt-n- pepper. This is literally the 1st time I have found “gray blending blonde”-ever.
You would think it would be easy however I can tell you as a blonde who went grey there are many hairdressers who absolutely positively cannot properly do this technique on blonde hair
Its very pretty. I have a in-home salon. I went to cosmetology school from 87-91 and we never learned foils then. You are a great teacher for this old dog 🐕 ❤ Thanks hon!
Wow! That's so beautiful! I wish I knew this before I colored my hair. I will definitely show this to my stylist so I can have this done next time. Thank you so much for your video.❤😊
My stylist is doing this on my hair, and I love it. Gets lots of compliments, too, which is always nice. You can add more blonde or lowlight as desired. And... No more scalp breakouts in reaction to the dark brown root color that was being used when another stylist was doing a balayage on me.
I just adore her sweetness, charm, talant, and her uniqueness! I need her in MY life! Why are all the best stylists never near your hometown?! Lol.. I'm in Maryland,if anyone happens to know of anyone please do let me know.. Ty!!
I have had so many poor outcomes both in result and service from stylists who say they know what they are doing, then overcharge to do a bad job. What ever happened to humility and customer service? So glad you addressed this. I wish all stylists could hear your message. It's really frustrating to have to try hit or miss, spending way more money than it's worth (especially after covid, everyone is scared and greedy) to get poor results. It's made me just grow out my silver, which I actually love, but I'm thinking of getting blonde highlights again. Back on the hunt for quality AFFORDABLE service.
I always foil backward, and if I think I’m getting too close to the scalp I will add a strip of cotton . The cotton that you would normally use for a perm he just take a piece and tear down the middle. The cotton is a little more time-consuming but you can get real close to the scalp without bleeding. Great video!

Really thinking of stopping the dye process after 32 years. I’m 100% white under the medium brown permanent dye . What do you suggest I ask my stylist to do?
Love your video! You are very talented! I’m not a stylist but I’m in my 50’s & have been trying to figure out my gray hair & blonde without destroying it all. I have much more gray/white than your mother & have curly hair. Im not ready to go completely gray. Would love to see a video on how to blend if your gray is even lighter on top of your head.
You're amazing, i keep watching and re-watching your videos they're so satisfying especially the ones with your mom, and that colour correction on that really long hair, keep up the amazing work Jaime!
I really like watching your videos. I get alot of ideas for my own hair. I'll tell my granddaughter to watch too because she just started cosmetology school in Las Vegas. I think she would learn alot from you. Thank you
Jamie you are the first educator that I’ve actually understood and thought “I can do that too”!... so thankful for you and your videos. Any chance you’ll be attending Premiere Orlando on stage??❤️
I love the final color..having hair that is mostly silvery I have it highlighted. (One bleach foil, one color foil (pale blonde) . My dark hair if pretty dark and so just putting on color it comes out very brassy ....but I think I need some depth as it's mostly an overall pale blonde and I love the lowlights you used....love to show my hairdresser this video. Your technique is great (having worked for Clairol many years ago and having my hair done by them)..I know color. I used to highlight my own hair for many years...Where are you located????.
Wow. I may have to sell the house and move to where your salon is. You didn’t waste a second with cutesy filler talk! I learned So much and I’ve been looking on You Tube for days now. Thank you. Okay! I’m heading for the shampoo bowl now! (Yes! I’ve subscribed!)
I get so much from your simply put & clearly descriptive tutorials. I watched this one in particular three times. I have been cutting, coloring, highlighting & lowlighting my hair hair at all lengths. I experimented with colors of the outdoors w the colors of changing leaves. Always reminding myself that less is more... mostly learning from my mis-takes - as you all know this too well! I have been adding Highlights over the past ten years so I did not know my actual color. During covid I let it grow out to a short bob w long front. Very pretty shades. now I started using charcoals steel lilac tones. The colors did not compliment my age and so I began using lowlights -so pretty- w true highlights. The outcome is one that has more compliments than I have in years. I love, too, your bob cut. With new scissors in hand after coloring I dove into your fun way of cutting. I stopped doing others hair as in NYC it was a blast to 'do' others hair - different lengths, colors, styles & technique's. Here in the Mid West the older ladies are crazy picky-more that I do not charge what their styles are worth-now the younger gals are thrilled to have their styles & colors after births & beginning college. So- thank you for new insight on how to do my own hair as I mature on my journey-still sassy, n
Older ladies are not more picky. You may not have the skills etc to blend hair like she does. Lilac hair is not flattering on younger college students & adding rainbow colors to their hair is not flattering and requires little skill set if being totally honest. We are not trees and should not change colors with the seasons...instead compliment our skin tones and coloring of our skin ✨️
Love this!!! I started embracing my gray and went from a brown to highlighting my entire head to get use to the lighter color. My problem is, is that my hair is perfect when I get it done, then goes yellow/gold which I don’t like at all! I want it to stay more platinum. My gray is incredibly white no peppering at all. I love how your moms hair turned out!!!
Many years I suffered from gray hair. From many of my experiments I found a natural recipe, its basic component. Henna grass gave me color. Blond. I want to market it.
I love it wow you are good. Im not a hair stylist and I do have my grays that I don’t care much for it. Maybe when I’m in my 80’s but for now I rather have my brown and highlights. Next time I go to the salon I’ll be watching techniques.
Jamie I tried backwards and I am just too slow...so I have gone back to regular foiling...maybe someday I will give it another go of it!!!God Bless you so much for all the functional hair techniques!!!
Amazing Color Job, cant believe you didn't need to tone. It looks so flawless, sometimes I think my client is perfect without a toner, but then I still tone and I end up making it more complicated.... :/ GOOD TIP!!
Mark, may I suggest trying Matrix? It allows you to do great things with color. while coloring up or down you can get amazing results without jumping through all kinds of hoops! You've probably already tried SoColor from Matrix, if not as one professional to another give it a go!
Thank-you for this video! I have high/low lights done but my hair grows out pure white. My low lights are too dark. What are two good colors to blend with pure white hair so I can get a more natural look and let some of the grey come through. Thanks your tutorials are great!
I am mostly a silver gray on the top half of my head when I allow my roots to pop out. I have decided that I'm tired of coloring every 2 weeks...can't even go a month between touch-ups! I'm a retired hair stylist so I've been watching your videos for ideas on how to achieve the silver toning techniques in order to break up the line of demarcation of silver roots and chocolate colored hair color. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Love your videos.
Teresa, just a suggestion! as time goes by, generally hair becomes lighter on top first in the back it stays a little darker as a general rule of thumb! My Professional advice esp. to women that are going gray is to start thinking of adding alternately their natural color and adding a bit of highlights. Don't use a dark or darker color trying to hide your graying, after awhile it may become oxidized? Dull and lifeless! Keep things soft, feminine, but at the same time alluring, fresh. Every woman want's to be attractive, radiant and noticed! No Bleaching!
Amazing talent. I need this in my life! I have highlights and I need a stylist to blend my grays this way! I have demarcation and gray hairline after 2 weeks!
Love love love you Jamie! My earnings have gone up since watching you and perfecting techniques xx keep the vids coming thank you so much! Lots of love from England x

Just don't do what I did and bleach your whole head... I ended up having to do a tent back (going back to brunette) and starting all over
Yes do this on dark hair. Also maybe for someone who only gets gray at the front of their part on the top of the head.
Yes, please. This is what I want to do but I have real dark brown hair.
That makes me so happy to hear. Thanks for watching!
Amazing results. A colour anyone would love to have!
Thanks so much!
Brilliant idea!! I'm currently growing out my grey. Depending what shade emerges, I will bear this in mind as a future option. Thank you.
Very Nice . Natural and blends looking youthful .
thank you for sharing your techniques with us! You have a beautiful mom! :-) I also must say what patience you have and endurance and energy!
Thank you so much!
Oh my gosh! That makes me SO happy to hear! And as of right now, I don't think I will be there, but things could change ;)
I'm definitely doing this on my client Wednesday! Her hair has been tripping me out and now I feel like I can get it done! Thanks!
Beautiful job! Want to show this to a stylist for my hair..
Thank you so much!
Mommy is lucky to have you ! You did a great job !
So glad you loved it! Thanks for watching!
This is my Fav of yours so far. Gorgeous! So amazing. Thank you
I'm so happy to hear you loved it. Thanks for watching!
This gray blend is Great!! I trying the back and forward foiling you get so much closer to the roots. Great Video!! Thank you
I love the final color..having hair that is mostly silvery I have it highlighted.
BEAUTIFUL Your mom's hair is so lovely.
Thanks Judy!
Wow. I may have to sell the house and move to where your salon is. You didn’t waste a second with cutesy filler talk! I learned
So much and I’ve been looking on You Tube for days now. Thank you. Okay! I’m heading for the shampoo bowl now! (Yes! I’ve subscribed!)
I'm thrilled to hear you loved it. Thank you so much for watching!
I get so much from your simply put & clearly descriptive tutorials. I watched this one in particular three times. I have been cutting, coloring, highlighting & lowlighting my hair hair at
all lengths.
Love the foiling back technique I'm going to try that! Thanks for your tips😉👍
Thank you so much! I hope you love it!
Love ❤️ this awesome video, thanks for the hot tips, I foil backwards feels more natural to me.
Thanks so much for watching!
i could watch you foil all day. so clean!
Thanks so much!
I'm thrilled to hear you loved it. Thanks for watching!
This is a great tutorial!!!! Never thought backwards!!!! Thank you! Im a student learning hairdressing and im so gonna try this!! Amazing results! 😍
I'm so happy to hear this video was so helpful. Thanks so much for watching!
Derrick Walton I myself keep a pattern to follow each touch up . For me I saw to-much over lay. But we are all artist and have our own style.
Not a hairstylist but was mesmerized by your video! Your Mom looks even more beautiful! Wish you were close to me
You are so awesome! I wish you could do my hair. Seriously, you are so talented and I love your personality!
Thanks so much Laurie!
Wow , you have such a young looking mom !!! Great hair ! Thanks so much for everything !
Thanks Irene!
Hi Jamie you are so gorgeous... I am always watching your videos...thank you for your generosity by sharing your techniques. Stay pretty😘
Aw that makes me so happy to hear. Thanks for watching!
Thanks so much for watching Mark!
Mark, may I suggest trying Matrix? It allows you to do great things with color. while coloring up or down you can get amazing results without jumping through all kinds of hoops! You've probably already tried SoColor from Matrix, if not as one professional to another give it a go!
@@TheAndrogenous thank you , and i have tried a few stuff from matrix and i do like their products a lot , thank you :)
@@Markofitch no problem. Did you open a Salon of your own?
Teresa Treadaway view Monique Parent RUclips videos on how she handles this- she is very good -
Teresa, just a suggestion! as time goes by, generally hair becomes lighter on top first in the back it stays a little darker as a general rule of thumb!
Looks very natural and beautiful!
Thanks Shari!
Amazing talent. I need this in my life! I have highlights and I need a stylist to blend my grays this way! I have demarcation and gray hairline after 2 weeks!
Thanks so much for watching!
love your color and the way you foil for gray hair. i hope to watch more of your shows.
Wow! Great hairline work. I use a cap on myself but go back with foils in my hairline. Im also grey in the front.
Excellent example.
Yes! Love what you did. I usually start at the bottom and work up. I like your technique and will be trying it.
Love love love you Jamie! My earnings have gone up since watching you and perfecting techniques xx keep the vids coming thank you so much! Lots of love from England x
Hey Amy Osborne I'm so happy to hear you've learned so much from my videos! Thank you so much for watching.
Another video very helpful. I like the way you explain each client ❤️
