I am interested in this career but worried about the coronavirus and being in contact with potentially infected patients. It is likely an irrational fear but curious as to hear what someone who is in the field has to say. Thanks again for the good video!
Depends on the area you work in. I work in Microbiology and deal with covid literally everyday but i also deal with much worse than covid everyday as well. If you work in a place like chemistry you wouldn't be exposed to covid, but you would deal with blood/serum of patients that could have HIV or things like that. Thank you for making this video! It's a year old so I don't know if you'll ever respond as people on RUclips don't really seem to. I am curious what level of education you have that provided adequate employment? I don't mean to pry, my reason for inquiring is due to my search on Indeed for jobs in medical laboratory technician and I started feeling disgruntled by the majority seemingly requiring a bachelor's degree in biology or related nature, and certification in technologist. I was frustrated to find only one job posting stating associates and up, and one post stating will accept new grads, but I was concerned at the lack of job postings for technicians specifically associate level. I thought there was more out there and employer's would have use for such as it doesn't require the higher salary. When I hear you speak of a one year program I'm very saddened as that is not an option here. I think in the past, the Red Cross offered that and my reason for knowing is a step cousin of mine completed it and I think it was through them and it was more efficient, cost effective/quality but rigorous. However if she could do it then I definitely could, I was top in my class in math and science at an elite private school and to be #1 as a female makes me very proud to this day. This is an alternative I'm exploring aside from LPN, due to the physical demands of nursing. There really does need to be more shorter, condensed programs that are employable and affordable for the masses now more than ever and I'm troubled to continuously see higher degree's being required as I'm middle age. That is just not realistic yet I'm bright & passionate when it comes to biology and took genetics courses at Cal tech, my dad's alma mater, not sure what you call it in Canada. Maybe things are a bit different where you live but if you could let me know if an associate is adequate in your dealings in the field to employ people but apparently if you have a one year certification, maybe Canada is more reasonable in requirements. I appreciate your straight video giving the facts & sharing helpful details! Thank you! ❤️👩🏼🔬❤️
Technicians have an associate degree only. They do not possess a bachelor’s. When you have a bachelor’s you are now called an MLS or Medical technologist. As far as your job search goes I think you had these terms mixed up, they are confusing. There are tons of jobs for medical laboratory technicians. Reading about your background makes me wonder why you are not applying for medical laboratory science. Look into it. You’re never too old! Yes depending on your degree. If you have a B.S. in a science such as Microbiology you can challenge the BOR. Also depending on what state you're in you will need an additional license from the state health department before you can work in that state. And that's for anything clinical from a Generalist to a Specialist.
I never taken chemistry, when i was in highschool i somehow avoid hard classes and still got an average ranking in hs ( i rank at the middle ), was it hard for those that absolutely had zero knowledge on organic chem and chemistry, im also bad at math, again the highest math i took was college algebra, no arithmetic or calculus all algebra.

Mam I want to got admission in medical Laboratory technician in Canada but when I check online there was no response for these . please solve my doubts
This might be a silly question but does anyone know if I'll have to be clean shaven for this career? I'm switching from a career where I've had to be clean shaven constantly and honestly being able to grow a beard would be a massive bonus for just for my mental. I realize it might be dependent on the employer. Anyone have some insight?
Did you seriously just compare lab techs to doctors and surgeons? What about surgery techs, x-ray techs, pharmacy techs, CNAs? Literally any of those jobs will be less stressful and more rewarding than a career in the lab. To be fair a CNA is in the trenches, but you never see one of them or anyone in any of those other jobs alone on a shift for 12 hours. I just got to the point where you said you live in Canada. You really ought to have led with that. It's a totally different career working for the government vs working for a corporate hospital. In my experience, labs are a part of a corporation that only cares about keeping profits high and expenses as low as they can be. That means that the lab is as slimly manned and low paid as they can get away with. If the facility has an emergency room, they will either put people on 12-hour shifts keep manning needs low or they will put those people on call. Occasionally the workload will be more than they can handle. When that happens it's like the world is on fire. You have an amount of work that you can't keep up with when suddenly you have two more ER patients to go draw, and now you have to stop working for 20 minutes to knock those out. When it rains, it pours in this job. A few years back, I had a job at a critical access hospital that had an ER but the lab was not 24 hours since, in theory, the overnight ER did not need a dedicated lab tech on site at all times. Whoever worked weekends came in to do the daily tasks and run any tests needed for the Saturday clinic and the inpatients, and then went home and was on call. I had many evenings where I just slept the night away and didn't get called at all. However, there were a few nights that had me seriously reconsidering the job. I had some nights where I was called as many as 6 times to come in for ER patients in a single shift. One of those times I was most of the way home from a previous call when my phone rang again, and that is frustrating at 4 in the morning when you need to be at work in 2 hours. This wasn't even close to the worst lab job I ever worked.

Also depending on what state you're in you will need an additional license from the state health department before you can work in that state. And that's for anything clinical from a Generalist to a Specialist.
Thank you!

Can someone that have bow leg go into this career
I never taken chemistry, when i was in highschool i somehow avoid hard classes and still got an average ranking in hs ( i rank at the middle ), was it hard for those that absolutely had zero knowledge on organic chem and chemistry, im also bad at math, again the highest math i took was college algebra, no arithmetic or calculus all algebra.
And even that I cheated. :(
About to start my first day now
I'm medical lab technology 3rd year student
Hey i am interested in this filed can you please tell me is this field hard or no do we need to study a lot of math and chemistry? And what type of chemistry do you guys learn ?

I want to be a medical lab technician? But I have a subject combination of Biology, chemistry and computer is this suitable for the field?
