This episode and "Even Stevens" are the only ones to have Gumby without yellow lips, but he still has a mouth. Also, both episodes lasted exactly 6 minutes and 1 second.
Yep, it was a little strange seeing Gumby with a mouth like Professor Kapp's. Also worth of note, in these two shorts Art Clokey voices Pokey, while Dallas McKennon voices him in the other 1962-1966 shorts (generally during that period, all voices were by Dallas McKennon and Ginny Tyler.)
1RichardHunt IU think so, event o 1957 as one of the last of the "band mouth/round eye" Gumbys. That old medicine man didn';t know what ELSE happens with water and the watermelonds now, did he?
This is an interesting episode. There is one thing that confuses me. Why is Gumby taking anything with ice cream in it? He was supposed to freeze when he took the root beer float. I wonder what happened to his Gumbometer. Anyway, this episode is out of the ordinary, which is good.
The gag with Gumby freezing and “dying” due to being made of Clay was only used in the original 1950s episodes and one classic 1960 episode like “Moon Trip” and “Lost Little Pony” plus “Flying Goo” in later episodes Gumby was able to handle cold temperatures and eat ice cream like space and the Arctic and Antarctic in modern 1960s and 1980s episodes like “Tiny Planets” Gumby: The Movie, “Northernland Follies” and “Arctic Antics” “And Galaxy Witch” but that joke was still used in Gumby: The Movie (1995) with the frozen ClayBoys. Are the earliest 1950s Gumby episodes (With a creepy stop-motion claymation style.) the creepiest and scariest. I think so. The later 1950s, 1960s and 1980s episodes and the 1995 movie are less creepy and are more modern and higher in quality. (With a more advanced modern entertaining stop-motion claymation style related to Aardman’s.)
The robot "waiter"'s sound effect is the same as on Felix the Cat and Underdog! (Yet neither series's stock cues turn up in Gumby, which usually uses its own and Hanna-Barbera's.)
Wow; this episode had it all! A lipless Gumby; watermelons "morphing" into wheeled slug-like creatures (which go "ZOOP!"); the omnipresent Lionel train; a robotics ice cream parlor...Hmmm...May have added one shot too many to tonight's hot toddy...Wonder what the pharmacist would've given him to fill those watermelons..."All the psychotropics you can eat, kid!"
No lip gumby was creepy! And i hope Gumby's idea was to have Pokey go to the drug store, buy vodka and fill the watermelons to be sold to college kids! i liked the "Cafe Zen is".
Whoa! Wasn't that zookeeper being a little too hard on Gumby? It's not like Gumby deliberately tried to rip him off. He didn't know the Zoops turn back into watermelons after you get 'em wet. The wizard who sold him the potion should've told him that. It definitely taught Gumby his lesson, though. No more get-rich-quick money-making schemes for you, Gumby!
So, our hero enslaves a group of animals. Sells them to a guy, who turns them into watermelons with a Fire hose!? Probably not racist. Zoops are easy to keep. All they need are some collard greens and a bowl of Malt Liquor and they live longer than goldfish.
He reminds me of Homer Price (famed author Bob McClosdky's teen character), he's about 13 here, and of Archie and Henry Aldrich. Art Clokey still plaYS Pokey and Ginny Tyler(?) as Gumby (elsewherew Joe Clokey dispelled the notiuon of Dal McKennon, whom he said DID come on the scene in the ealy 1960s, as Gumby, Pokey, or anyone for Clokey..rhymes.)
+Steve Carras That's possible, but I am betting this may be from 1961 or 1962, going by the models of other characters; plus, Art Clokey voiced Pokey in 1962's "The Glob" (the first short with Gumby's "normal" mouth) before Dallas McKennon took over with the role.
Yep; it was also the last time Art Clokey voiced Pokey, until some of the late 60s shorts (Dal McKennon still voiced Pokey as well, and I think I recall Norma MacMillan occasionally voiced him as well, in addition to Gumby and Goo.)
+wileyk209zback Art Clokey voiced Pokey in all of the 50's and in the first 3/4 of the 60's and in all of the 80's and 90's. Dal Voiced Gumby for the second half of the 50's and the first half of the 60's and all of the 80's and 90's. They were a great team. :)
I had a dream that I was in a cult that worshiped Gumby.

I wonder if there was a reason they choose to experiment going lipless with Gumby.
Dank Meme
Love gumby😊
I know you do but there’s something different about him where is his yellow lips in this video
The $25 Gumby got for the "zoops" is about $200 in today's money. Just in case you were wondering.
1960 Version: Art Clokey
1994 Version: George Carlin
You’re telling me he spent 100 bucks in that diner
About 5 selections from Reel L-93, was heard in this episode, including “the ever popular” Keystone Cops, a circus/polka type tune.

+Manny J. Montanez You're right. Assume they just changed it for season 2. lol
I've Been Tricked Csupo (2019) (I'll Demand my money back)
...maybe Gumby chugged a gallon of Prestone...

You can tell this is season 2 just because of how different Gumby’s design is.
The robot "waiter"'s sound effect is the same as on Felix the Cat and Underdog! (Yet neither series's stock cues turn up in Gumby, which usually uses its own and Hanna-Barbera's.)

Seeing Gumby with this design in the first two episodes seems off.
When Pokey said "Uh-oh!" after the zookeeper angrily called Gumby over, even he knew that their goose was cooked.
Yeah, but he learned his lesson.
No lip gumby was creepy! And i hope Gumby's idea was to have Pokey go to the drug store, buy vodka and fill the watermelons to be sold to college kids! i liked the "Cafe Zen is".
What was Gumby gonna put in the watermelons from the drugstore???
This is where we see Gumby with a set of new eyes with the addition of eye brows and a new mouth.
3.40 OMG sooo funny the zoo keeper bigger than the train!!!😅

I'd like if there was at least one place that had mechanical service like that one did in Zoops.
First Gumby episode from the 1960s.
(5:36) What was his idea of filling the watermelons up with!?!?!?!
+Kiyonami MC
something you're too young to know about
"Mother's Little Helper" (Valium), maybe...Then Gumby could ask his Mom for anything!
Pokey was much slicker than Gumby! Pokey went for the vice cream, but when Gumby got his punishment, Pokey abandoned him.
what was the (expensive!) synth(s) on the moon episode and this zoops episode?
(3:41) There's that Lionel train again...
wileyk209zback like those scenes?

Ginny Tyler or Dick Beals didn’t voice Gumby.
Hey, Kabillion! how are you?
Glad they decided to change Gumby's mouth after this. That kind of mouth really doesn't suit Gumby.
I see this was aired in 1959.
This is from 1962, not 1959.
This may sound stupid, but what happened to Gumby's mouth?
+Colt Winchester gaming It's an early "3-d mouth" tryout..(added on this page on May 7,2016) Looks more like 1957..
+Steve Carras That's possible, but I am betting this may be from 1961 or 1962, going by the models of other characters; plus, Art Clokey voiced Pokey in 1962's "The Glob" (the first short with Gumby's "normal" mouth) before Dallas McKennon took over with the role.

That is the scariest mouth I’ve ever seen 0:40
Gumby for vp
$25! Wow!
Forest TekkenVideos it was a lot of money back in 1958
Why does gumby have a werid looking mouth?
RAPID RECESS
what was the (expensive!) synth(s) on the moon episode and this zoops episode?
