      @@Mastervading4306 Thanos was not right, Thrawn is only yet to be wrong.
      Thanos could've done any number of other things to save the world, killing half of it was far from a long term solution. Repopulation wouldn't just cease. He's a traumatized god with an ego complex, not even extraordinarily intelligent like Thrawn.
      Thrawn is admittedly brilliant, but he's been wrong on the small scale many times and his confidence in his ability to predict people/situations will eventually cause him to be wrong on the large scale. There is no such thing as the "greater good", only individual perception of it. Pursuing it is ultimately selfish.
      He simply cannot be so certain that they'd suffer a worse fate with no other solution in the mean time and that he is the best solution that could come. Mainly due to the fact that there are forces he literally cannot control, ala the Force, which can do things unimaginable to Thrawn, and many beings that are above him dimensionally. His understanding of these things will never be complete because the beings that could reveal the knowledge to him never will, and they aren't things you intuitively understand. He will never be as absolutely intelligent as he would need to be to make such calls, he is not omnipotent.

      @@Nezxmi Ummm where the hell did Thanos come into this? Thrawn doesnt have a handfull of magic rocks that can remake the Universe. Their is such a thing as doing something you may not like hell even despise it but a person may still do it anyway as not doing it would lead to an even worse outcome. And if anyone truly believes otherwise is an idiot that truly has been blessed with an easy life that they are spoiled to such a degree that they could even think such a way that everything is sunshine and rainbows when things are not so easy.
      If Thrawn is not yet proven wrong.... Doesn't that means that he is right because certian idiots can not find any logical proof without relying on emotion that he is wrong

    • @Nezxmi
      @Nezxmi 3 года назад +8

      @@TheMajesticJackOff Did you read the whole thread or even my whole comment? I was replying to someone who mentioned both Thanos and Thrawn, then quoted Thanos. And I credited Thrawn with actually being an extraordinary individual while Thanos wasn't, so I'm aware they're quite different.
      Doing the right thing is simply doing the right thing. Of course the distinction between right and wrong is only ever a matter of degree. Sometimes a large degree, sometimes a miniscule degree. That is not what the "greater good" Thrawn is referring to is. His "greater good" is an uncertain variable and he's aware of that. He says "if the New Republic in unable", fully acknowledging they that MAY be able to defend themselves when the time comes.
      Thrawn is only yet to be proven wrong in large scale battle because he works with nearly inexhaustible resources and an incredible invasive Imperial network. He has the intelligence and all of the resources he needs to succeed, so of course he usually will against opponents that are incapable of extraordinary feats. That is why it takes a main character for Thrawn's plans to start going awry.
      Also your condemnation of emotion in favor of "logic" tells me that you don't understand Thrawn or what makes him so dangerous. It is his willingness and want to understand you, even to an emotional level, that is terrifying, not his ability to calculate and think logically. He understands why people act because he understands what they care about and what drives them, not because they're just stupid or unintelligent.

      @tba113 3 года назад +17

      Agreed. You get the sense that his apparent political mis-steps in _Thrawn_ were more of a "just as planned" manipulation than anything else. He convinced Vader of his loyalty in the sequel, and left everyone pretty happy with him in the third novel - despite having to compete with two Imperial rivals and finesse the interference of a Chiss task force all the while. The only time when he was really blindsided was when Pryce decided a bit of mass murder would cover her tracks nicely, and vaporized several thousand civilians Thrawn was trying to not butcher. Everything else pretty much ended up working out in his favor.

    Many generals observe the enemy's battles and tactics and try to strategize around what they have seen in the past under the assumption they will do the same thing or something similar in the future. Thrawn sought to truly know and understand his opponents in order to understand how they think and react to things versus trying to plan around prior tactics being applied in the future. This why he was always a step ahead of everyone because he knew exactly how they would react to the given situation. Thrawn is definitely my favorite character in all of Star Wars and I am really hoping to see him in live-action at some point in the near future.

    I see a lot of nuances and similarities between Thrawn and General George S. Patton. I don’t know if Timothy Zahn intended that when he created Thrawn, but they are there nevertheless. Patton was a student of history, geography, and military going all the way back to the conquests of the Roman Legions. His intimate knowledge of this, and having read written materials by Field Marshall Erwin Rommel that were published in the 1930’s contributed greatly to Payton’s military successes as he led his armored divisions in North Africa, Sicily, and Europe. Patton was very much a student of his opponent’s tactics.

    I never really understood Thrawn, his appeal, or his place in the Galaxy. He never really appeared in the movies, or games I played but he was always this supervillian lurking in the shadows. Granted I haven't read anything about his back story either, but I liked this video. It unravels some of the mystery for me.

    Thrawn knows a number of time honored rules of tactics. For example: "Know your enemy and know yourself, in a hundred battles, you will never be defeated" --Sun Tzu. Also this one: "No battle plan survives first contact with the enemy." --Helmuth van Moltke. While it is true that those who "fail to plan, plan to fail" (Benjamin Franklin), a preplanned battle strategy should include contingency plans in case of unanticipated complications. If all else fails, a tactician must learn to 'roll with the punches' and use intuition as well as experience. Thrawn clearly understands these things which, along with his leadership skills, makes him an exceptional military commander.

    It's really annoying that many fans criticize Thrawn, arguing that he is just a copy of Tarkin. Although both characters have some similarities, they are really different. Thrawn is analytical while Tarkin is obstinated. In fact, the destruction of Alderaan can serve as an example. While Tarkin didn't wink at the time of giving the order (causing a massive joinment to the Rebel Alliance), Thrawn would have never did that knowing the consecuences.

      Would Thrawn have disobeyed Vader's orders? Or did Tarkin need Vader's permission to blow up Alderaan? It seems the Empire was fixing to use the Death Star anyways.

    The only person who thinks like Thrawn is *Agent Tierny, the best and only competent member of the First Order.* She did actually something that Emo Ren fails to do, convincing good person like Tam to join the First Order/the Dark Side. Tierny, the villain shows better Leaderships than so call hero, Holdo. Tierny deserves much more.
