    I love this game and what we love about this game is that we have a blast with it with new gamers, non-gamers, and experienced gamers. I still love it and it is always a good time.

      one of those few games that is competitive with new people and experienced people, love the 1910 big cities expansion

      Yes. Forgot about the mini expansions. They do improve the game quite a bit.

      @@theshogunstein6475 My favorite add-on for this game is stock shares for the Pennsylvania map. It adds a connected layer to the game without adding a level of difficulty to the core "ticket to ride" building railways rules

    9:38 Guess I'm the exception because I exclusively choose ONE long route and then choose a short route that is either part of it or very easily connected to it...and I usually win. That lack of tension is why I'm bored with TTR. Once you've figured out an unbeatable strategy, it completely kills the game.

    Wow, haven't played Ticket to Ride in absolute ages. Nice work giving some life to an old game. Thanks for sharing!

    Nice review. However, I have to disagree about not taking the long routes - they’re the best to go for, and in my experience people finish them 9 times out of 10. I know what you mean about finishing your initial tickets and the rest of the game falling flat as you just put trains down to wind down the game. I used to play the same way until I started playing online and noticed how many players take a gamble on taking late tickets, and often it’s worth the gamble. If you’ve already got plenty of trains down you’ll find you often only have to add a small handful of trains to finish the new tickets. Once I started playing that way my scores started rocketing and it introduces late-game tension as people push their luck late on. Well done if you read all that waffle! 🙂

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  4 года назад +2

      Hmmm...I’m not sure how late tickets pays off. You could draw a route that’s already complete by another player. I guess the games light enough not to get in a tiswas about it though. I guess I’ve been playing with people who treat it like a war game.
      Btw...I read all that waffle 👍🏻

      You have to judge when it’s worth the risk or not. I guess it depends on how your own trains are laid out - if you’ve got a good spread across the map the likelihood is you’ll be able to finish extra routes. Even if someone has blocked a direct route you can take a longer way round. Anyway, once you get used to playing that way it makes it tense to the end.

    Great review as always, like playing this with wife and kids, we’ve started going for the longer routes to keep it interesting. Recently got them playing Splendor and Sushi Go too, love it

      Splendor is a forgotten favourite. Love it.

      Splendor has a nice mechanic but it s a bit too abstract for my taste.. SUshi go, every day!!! i love this very very simple draft game. Playing it on a regularly basis with my wife make the things een more interesting since we know how the other tends to favour for a strategy, and then changing it.. I know yo uknow i usually go for the sashimi and keeping the cookings under control.. but i ll change with a massive draft of dumplings instead

      Sushi Go remind us of the drafting in 7 Wonders. What you think?

    • @yannber
      @yannber 4 года назад

      @@BoardGameBollocks in a way, but.. sushi go is a pure drafting card game. nothing more. and imo this simplicity makes it better than 7Wonders which has a core mechanics based on draft, but also relies on a bit of deck building (keeping resources to build further cards for exemple..) Sometimes, great games combines different basic elements (like 'it's a wonderful world.. a bit of draft, a bit of ressources management. ) and sometimes, even better game are simple to the exrteme (like sushi go, hana bi , and go game! ...) How a simple game becomes a gem,and another one.. just repetitve and boring.. thats a well kept secret... For 7 wonders, 7 woders duel is better because it focuses on "deck building" and of course, there s no drafting phase anymore, So it prooves that the strong point of this game is not the draft part, after all

    Agree with the all the criticism, but it's still one of the best games to get new people in the hobby, so I don't see myself getting rid of it. Sleeving the cards makes shuffling a lot easier; that;s one thing I will suggest.

      obviously flawed games that we keep on playing and enjoying a lot : is a definition of a classic Playig TtR is like an old friend with few annoying drawbacks, but who you can't imagine not meetng for a beer on a regular basis

    Hi. I think that some of your comments are biased by your own strategy. I agree , the stations are not that of a great idea, but still they can worth easily more than 4 points if you use it to check a ticket, especially a long 20 points one. So I agree if you focus on medium size 8 points tickets, you will probably never use any station.. But if it makes poossible to connect a ticket from Copenhagen, it worths it. About the bunch of cards thing.. i agree in 4 players gmaes, in 3 players games, a bit less, but usually, you can swap to a stragety diminuishing your wagon stock with 1 or 2 long sections, in order to force the end of game. IMO ticket to ride, is a gateway game, but also can be very nasty cutt throat type for experienced gamers.. Once you know the different tickets, you can guess what your opponents are trying to achieve.. and preventing them to do so...

    • @BoardGameBollocks
      @BoardGameBollocks  4 года назад

      That’s my point. Once you figured out the puzzle it just boils down to how fast can you preempt and block you opponents. But as we both say, it’s a starter game so maybe I’ve played it too much.

      @@BoardGameBollocks yeah, well i m usually against the commercial extensions politics, nor adding rules and rules that finish to destroy the balance of the original game, but.. some TtR extensions can bring some new life.. at least for awhile.. India/Switzerland pack is really interesting, But on the other hands, having all the tricks in the book for a game, is like turning the last page of a great book... you put it on the shelf.. and start reading an entirely new one. thanks TtR for these great hours of secret masterplan to bind together Champaign, IL tioHonolulu, HI (+50 pts)
