- Here's some updated footage of Lake Mission Viejo (LMV). For the longest time this body of water was home to trophy sized large mouth bass, humongous catfish and double-digit weight rainbow trout. Golden Algae ruined this lake. Nearly all of the fish were killed off. Today, only Tilapia have been able to thrive at LMV. So here's some footage from several years ago. Glenn of Southwest Kayak Fishing recorded this epic day of Tilapia fishing: • Lake Mission Viejo Fis...

I used to fish this lake as a kid in the 80s. Best bass lake I’ve ever fished by a mile. Deep clear water. Massive, and I mean massive, bass. Trout, cats… So many great memories there but the golden algae dashed my hopes of coming back as an adult to fish it again. I hope it can be fixed. It was a special body of water especially for fishermen.
Fished ther in the mid eighties, phenomenal fishing.
GREAT AIR SHOTS
I miss the days of getting there first thing in the morning and limiting out on trout with mini-jigs in an hour, cleaning fish and being home before 10 AM so I could go fish some place else later with the kayak, float tube or surf fish. Summer though we'd stay for hours and play with the big bass or try for big pan fish.
That's right, I forgot to mention how big the pan fish were in this lake!
@@OCOutdoorsman before the big die off they added Tilapia to the stock there.
@@brianhurley966 That's right, I've caught decent sized Tilapia there; not sure if they still stock them though. They're probably the only fish able to survive in that lake right now
I lived in Lake Forest (previously known as El Toro) for 26 years and we were just a couple of miles from the lake. You would think I would have fished there at least once, but I never did. I did go sailing there few times! It’s too bad they were never able to solve the algae issue!🎣😃
@@losthorizonfishing107 Tell me about it; I really miss that lake!
This was my hometown lake as well. Caught lots of bass 10+ lbs. So sad to see it dead.
WTF!!!??? Why haven't they got rid of the golden algae yet!!?? It's an extremely easy problem to fix!! I've never seen largemouth bass this big, anywhere else in my life.
Go fix it then champ! It’s easy, they would probably pay you millions.
@@patrickmcphee770 nah. I found out why they haven't fixed the problem. Golden algae doesn't hurt anything, other than the fish in the waters it inhabits. Humans, whether swimming, or boating, are just fine.
.......fisherman make extremely wealthy people.....that own giant homes and private docks...... very angry and/or uncomfortable.
NOPE...they don't cater to the bass angler...OR trout angler.....
Sorry.....CHAMP
Your 1 of those children that has it all figured out! I’m sure having a dead lake is beneficial to all the households that share rights 2 the lake. You have no clue what your talking about, continue your ridiculous conspiracy though BOSS!
There is only one more catfish it’s about 5 feet long
There's no fishing at all today 😕
Do you need some sort of resident permit to fish at LMV sir? Or all guests are welcomed as long as they have fishing license? I really want to fish at that lake because of the huge tilapias.
Fishing has been shut down now for a couple of years due to golden algae 😖
How much was your drone on video?
The price of the drone? There's a link in the description that will take you to it
They should really clean up the lake
This isn't hard to fix nor is it that expensive to fix. Why hasn't it been done?
wrong. miss the epic fishing at LMV
I gave up hope on this lake...it’s been way too long without a solution 😒
😊😅
People actually go swimming in that green looking water?
It's actually clearer around the swim beach and people do go swimming there in the summertime
@@OCOutdoorsman haha ok. I'm one of those that are hesitant to swim in stagnant lake waters. Algae and who knows what microorganisms are in that lake lol
@@socalbeauty1516 I grew up near a lake in Michigan with algae, reeds, microorganisms Large Mouth, Small Mouth, Blue Gill, Perch and a few others breeds. Somehow I am more comfortable swimming in a lake than a pool with chlorine (and pee).
Well that was depressing, with annoyingly loud background music to boot.
