- This is a clip from the movie The Great Outdoors starring John Candy and Dan Akroyd. John Candy's character, Chet, tells a story of a giant bear living near the campgrounds they are vacationing at.
John Candy's bear story was a real classic!
I've copied and told the story so many times, that I've grown tired of telling it.
@@dreamguardian8320do you know what I just realized remember him being family in movie part in class starts with using universal studios hollywood new movie sounds great and good I love it so much
Chet's bear story still giving me chills since 1988...I'm 44 and I still have a hard time going to sleep....thank you Chet..thank you.
@JON M Romans story to his girls didn’t help either lol
🤣🤣
Wimp

John Candy is an absolute legend! Nobody could do clean humor better than he did, such a shame he was taken from us so young.

"I'm 25 pounds overweight, I don't need a blast to the ticker like that! I felt my plaque start flowing again!"
😂 😂
Ackroyd, you're more than 25 pounds over weight. WAY more...
@@timdaugherty4014 Lmao, too right he is! I thought the same thing.
best line 😂
@@timdaugherty4014But his character in this, Roman, was a rather vain man who would NEVER admit to how overweight he actually was.

A tip: you can watch series at kaldrostream. Me and my gf have been using them for watching loads of movies during the lockdown.
@Alan Lennon yup, have been watching on kaldrostream for months myself :)
Should've said "So I made up the earthquake roar" instead.
i love john candy RIP
Amen.
Apparently the 6 dislikes have no idea what a great film this was!
Gotta love that they added that fireball.😂
The whole things hilarious genuinely lol
That is a John Hughes touch all day long. He was a genius.
LOL, yeah!
Seriously one of the funniest scenes ever. Thanks for uploading.
Jeffrey Garceau
And scary too.
He was the BEST!!❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
John was a truly amazing actor. So soulful. I miss him
don't we all.
The chimney turning into flame thrower makes me laugh.
Dude that fireball out of the chimney is probably the funniest part plus dude bitching about his ticker
RIP John Candy😢
He was definitely one of the greats
@@jesseswarbrick7895 Agreed.
Amen.
I love Benny's reactions. John Candy could probably tell a story like this even if it wasn't in a movie. Gone way too soon. Thanks for the great movie memories, John.
4:47 - “So when you go to bed tonight, if you hear a noise, whatever you do, don’t look out the window. (Splashes a loaded drink on fire.) 5:00 - BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE A BEAR!”
Must have been moon shine

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
We went to our cabin and watched this movie every time we stayed up there, this story actually freaked me out about bears when I was a kid
It's just like if I'm in a treasure chamber, the last thing I wanna think is the scene in The Jungle Book 1994 when Kaa attacks Mowgli
One of the rare few that makes the world a noticeably lesser place when he's gone. John Candy, you were one in a billion.
Only wish john candy was still around one of my favorite movies as a kid RIP
The horrifying story Roman tells his kids in the following scene to try to relate to them - and their resulting sleepless night - was even better 😂
Candy is just brilliant.
wow whoever dislike this has no sense of humor.
@@mijoken84 I died watching this many years later, their problem not ours, legendary one is this!!!
Maybe it was the bear that disliked it.
2:03, "Like uh, Freddy Krueger. RAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!" I died laughing inside.
Since they all went straight to bed after the story, I'm guessing one of them was about to say "lets go upstairs and get to bed" but, Chet at the same time started the story even though Roman said that he's trying to read his magazine.
I love how the story was real in the end
I’m with Chet, that was awesome! Favorite part of the whole movie I’ve rewatch it over and over and I love the bit with the fire in the fireplace and the flame shooting out of the chimney!
The rest of them need to lighten up
I've been telling this story to family, friends, and even my own school for years, that I have grown bored and tired of telling it, and yet my mom dose not want me to tell any other story but that one.
5:00 the only thing more baffling than the chimney going up in flames is how the drink made the fire go up into the chimney
It's supposed to show how much alcohol is in Chet's drink. Dumbass.
Oh don't tell me -
Yup. She's bald on both ends too.
This movie is a classic. It did however scare the crap out of me as a kid, making me afraid of my windows at night. The music sure plays up the eerie feeling.
That must've been an excellent ghost story to explain.
Next to my dad and grandpa.... he was the coolest dad ever.
Every kid on the planet in the 80s wanted John Candy to be their uncle.
Nothing like a good scary story that will guarantee your kids will sleep in your bed until their high school graduation.
Like Freddy Krueger 🤣
R.I.P. Uncle Buck. The Best 👊
4:59 BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE THE BEAR!
I'm going to tell my kids this story when we go camping 😂
The thing that didn't make sense is that from 6:02-6:06, Chet was talking that it was just a made up story about the bear and even Roman said to his kids that there is no bear out there including the bald headed bear but at the end, there really was the bald headed bear. Especially at the end at 5:00, Chet was talking like he made up the whole story.
@Rockmaster2112 Yes, I guess I can agree with that. Perhaps the only reason Chet lied to his son that it was made up was because he (Chet) gave the whole family a huge scare at the end saying "if you hear a noise outside at night, don't look out the window" while screaming "it could be the bear." Plus even Connie said to Buck that it's a true story. I guess at the end when the bear broke into their cabin, Chet had proof that there really is the bald headed bear. Not only that, Roman did say to his daughters "there's no bear out there" but when the bear broke into their cabin, that proved him wrong to his daughters.
@Rockmaster2112 Yes, Connie's look towards Chet at 5:26 was like she was saying "you didn't have to put a scare on everyone with that scream" especially Kate told him how inappropriate it was to give a scare like that. I guess they were all appreciative of him telling the story that the bear was in that same area but the scare at the end wasn't necessary. Maybe at the end when the bear broke into their cabin and ran away after getting shot again, Chet must have told them that, that was the bald headed bear he was talking about but, nobody probably noticed it's bald head since everyone was panicking since Connie and Buck were curling up in fear, Kate, Ben, Mara, and Cara ran upstairs, and Roman was trying to fight off the bear. Also perhaps Chet also said to everyone "listen up, whatever I said about the story about the bald headed bear not being true, it really is true since that was the same bear and it probably recognized me and chased me back here for revenge." (One way to show that the bear recognized him was when Chet pulled it out of the hole, the bear said "you" to him where I guess for the movie, the bears animal trainer trained it to say "you.")
Then Roman freaks out his kids with an even worse story trying to comfort them. "Army kept them in metal boxes..."
Well done
The look on her face at 4:17 is priceless!!!
I saw this movie around the time when it first came out & I was 8 years old at the time & the look on that lady's face scared the heck out of me back then.
4:54 what ever you do don't look out the window. BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE A BALD HEADED KILLER BEAR! 4:58 (throws beer in the fireplace) LOL
4:53 & 4:59
When Chet fired the rifle at 4:00, does that mean that he shot through the glass window where he made a bullet hole through the window and then the bear got shot? I'm sure the window wasn't open which would give the bear an easy way to get inside.
If that bear wanted in, a pane of glass is not going to make it harder for it to get in genius.
@@maryburdette3431 You don't have to be very rude about it.

This scene always gave me the heebie jeebies.

They sound basic as fuck.
razor sharp..!!!...like Freddy Krueger..!!!..loll
Our eyes locked😂😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Is it me or does the background music sound eerily similar to the music used during Quint's U.S.S. Indianapolis speech in Jaws?
Lionel Hutz it does..
Is that Miguel Sanchez
Now listen you spilled the popcorn I'm not finished with this story
Yeah it was Uncle George's cabin😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
This movie was funny but this scene was scary in a way
Oh now you're going to give me the look
AKA The Story of #Sharkeisha.
Because it might be the bear 🐻 ahhhhh Jesus Christ
Than the other dad tells his daughters an even messed story 😂😂
So what he went overboard with the fangs?
I remember my dad telling us scary stories and we'd flip out...mom would get on to his ass for scaring us 😂
So he made the fangs grow bigger…geezee…
You think Uncle Romans story was the inspiration for Night of the Living Dead???
Best part about this scene is the Grateful Dead’s Blues for Allah T-shirt John Candy is wearing while shooting the bear!!!!!! Weir Everywhere!!!
It was man bear pig
First creepypasta
Can anyone tell me what the background music is when he is telling the story??
Probably something the man who scored the movie made up.
What a bunch of sissies. Candy's story was great.
Can anyone tell me the creepy music in the background as he tells the story its a good one would like to know the artist and the name of it if anyone could tell me that would be greatly appreciatied?
It’s the Indianapolis background from jaws
LMAO!!!!!!!!!
What people get paid for.....
😂😂😂😂😂😂
God-awful roar 3:39
Poop poop
It's funny, my y family has a cabin just like this one, We had similar raccoons like they did . Every nite the damn raccoons would get into the garbage cans. It made me laugh cause I always thought about this movie. Classic film. I still love going to my cabin , it's the best time ever. My family keeps making memories
5:00
John Candy was a LEGEND. Same for Dan Akroyd.
Don't look out the window......... CAUSE IT MIGHT BE THE BEAR. That makes me laugh all the time love this movie RIP John
That and when he says the shotgun shaved the hair off the bears head.
Not one person alive today can even come close to John Candy!!! ❤❤❤❤❤❤
Joe Rogan
"Whatever you do, don't look out the window. BECAUSE IT MIGHT BE THE BEAR!!!"
I love that part when he makes the goodness gracious Great Balls of Fire
Had me in tears... 🤣🤣🤣
That was actually a cozy scene sitting around the table in that cabin with the board game. Then he turns the lights out and tells the story. I would have loved being there.
John Candy was a comedy legend. In this film and one my favourite film's planes, trains and automobiles.
This story scared me to death when I was 6 years old. I used to think there was a bear in my room I was too scared to roll over I thought it was right beside me 😂 😂
same here especially watching this scene at night especially having to go about 50ft to go dump your trash outside from your house
LMAO 🤣
This was John Candy's best ever. Still is after all these years.
This and Uncle Buck!
Chet: And the walls started shimmering and "the floorboards started lifting."
Me: How strong is that bald-headed bear?
John candy’s face when he says “Suddenly, it let out this god awful roar” 😆 Priceless.
My bro go Google: 180 movie by living waters.. thank me later
I think Dan Akroyd genuinely was drunk in this scene. either that or he's a really good actor.
5:24 just reminds me of my brother who passed. He would rarely tell stories but when he did we'd get on his case. I'd love to hear one of those stories now.
5:00 LOL hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
Like ahhh....freddy Kruger. AHHHHHHHH!!!!
Lol reminds me of Quints indianapolis speech but a funnier version
Exactly, the music even sounds the same
Constance Plas can you upload the Lamp Shotgun scenes from the 1988 Movie The Great Outdoors please?
My favorite part 😂🔥 4:59
Like when a mountain lion appeared. I couldn't hear anything as it was raining and *bam* cougar on the trail. I probably scared it more than it scared me.
It probably knew you were there long before you saw it.
They don’t make movies like this anymore!
5:00 how the fire comes out of the chimney
Was hoping you'd throw in the raccoons in the trash bit at the end lol😂
“I felt my plaque start flowing again.”
It’s hilarious that they somehow thought giving him glasses would make him look 16 years younger!
Every time I watch this movie and this scene gives me bad dreams and every night I can't go back to sleep
This scene was on repeat over and over again until the VHS Tape was killed
Wow he is incredible my word
I remember watching this movie as a kid and being so scared of the bear in the window. Maybe that is the reason I hate windows during the night and I always need to close the curtains so I don't see what is outside.
