Lucy the native British speaks like the different one which we couldn't understand in first interaction I must say... its difficult to get and talk to them
Thank you so much for uploading this video! I've been learning in English for 5 years in American accent, but now I would like to learn to speak in British English. I'm in love with this pronounciation and thank you for making these videos😍
I´m Brazilian and for me it´s very good to know the commom mistakes from spanish students. It´s often similar to our pronunciation mistakes. Helps me a lot. Thank you! #gameofTHRONYS that´s how many brazilians use to pronounce it.
"Don't forget to connect with me on (mostly inaudible) all of my social media..." Don't : /dəʊnt/ /əʊ/ Very good example (although unmentioned). Now, I think I sound very British. Thank you very much.
Thank you very much for making this video. I was struggling to find how 'o' is pronounced in British English for a very long time. Your video has really helped me understand it.
I'm high school student and I am learning english .I watched your videos and I can say ,you are very good and funnnnny.🙆 p.s You are the most beautiful young english teacher I've ever seen
very helpful video.i was very confused about the sound "o"..but now i think i got what I want...really... you are a great teacher...thank you for sharing such an amazing video.
No dought you are the one of best teacher on utube, I've watched many more vdo on utube of you, I believe that I pick up very sooner learning in very short time.
When she talked about her hispanic students, i clearly feel them lmao. Like, i'm from latin america and when I started learning english I used to say the words like that. Now I'm so embarassed, but finaly could make the british accent that I wanted soo long ago
ohhhh my... god...! I've been watching tons of videos about British pronunciation and this is the most amazing one I've ever seen! I'm practising very hard on pronouncing this one, was one of the most difficult diphthong to me, now I'll sound more British than ever!! thank you I love you Lucy!! greetings from Mexico /Mexic eu/
Hello, Lucy! I am a student of a pedagogical university in Russia, and I study English and Chinese. And several months ago I was asked to choose the accent which I needed to speak with - the British or the American. I already had somewhat like the American accent, so I chose to learn to talk with the British accent. If I have such an opportunity, I'm not allowed to miss it! But since that time I've been getting lots of questions, especially about pronunciation. And I'm still not sure how exactly I need to pronounce this diphthong. Unfortunately, I've never been able to listen to a British in real life, and that's what is very important to me as I can "reflect" accents (yes, life has shown this ability of mine). So I watched some videos made by British people and came to a conclusion that the first sound is closer to [ ɔ ] than to [ e ] and the second sound slightly reminds me of [ i ] because it doesn't sound like an open sound [ u ]. But my teacher disagrees with me. She said that I could use your pronunciation as an example. Well, I listened to you. Your pronunciation still makes me think the way I do. I don't think you will ever read this comment, but if you do, tell me please who of us is closer to the truth - me thinking that this diphthong sounds slightly like [ ɔi ] (just a little bit) or my teacher who tells us the rules correctly but pronounces it herself closer to [ eu ] ? Thank you for your videos! :З
Hi Lucy, The way you are teaching English is very good. I am very interested to see your videos because of that. example the time 2.1 to 2.7. I can easily remember the mistakes that I am making. I am currently working for a UK based company. I rarely talk to them because I am not able to understand whatever they are saying especially over the phone with background noise. I am working as a network engineer and want to make youtube videos to help people who what to know the technologies, but my English is very bad. That holds me back. Thank you very much for your help! Wish you all the best!
Really don't know how I can thank you, you made my British pronunciation better, you're definitely better than my teachers, they pronounce English too much worse than your Spanish students 😷 and they really make me angry because of their pronunciation, it sucks, but you saved me from the bad pronunciation👍
People don't mispronounce words just because they don't want to pronounce them correctly. You don't learn to pronounce overnight. It takes time, and some effort to get your mouth used to sounds you've never produced before. And the older you are, the harder it is. So telling people off, or making fun of their pronunciation doesn't help. You've learnt foreign languages too, and either you're incredibly talented at learning the phonemes of foreign sounds (and you should know you'd be an exception, not the rule) or you've had a hard time learning the sounds, and I am sure you wouldn't have liked it if someone had laughed at your pronunciation.
I love the Lucy's lessons, it's funny because we actually pronoun that diphthong wrong, I found it funny those examples of our mistakes. Greeting from Colombia ♥
I am not sure if anyone has told you that, but weibo is pronounced similar to /way/ball/ . ei is the IPA symbol ei, which is the A sound in English, while o is pronounced similar to the 'odd' sound in English but with silent dd. I don't think your Chinese students will care, but I have learnt IPA symbols before and so as you, I thought you would like to know.
Lucy I like your efforts in making this video I do make that conscious effort to speak and get others to acquire British English It would be greater still when you take a real close close up of the intricacies of your good correct Pronunciation because At least The shape of the mouth is visible to the audience and that preceeds any sound that leaves the mouth Thank you Lucy
You're so sympathetic and I very like you and your videos. Keep up the good work 'cause I learn so much important English pronunciation facts and so on👌🏼
I love you channel Lucy! I'm Spanish and i'm trying very hard to sound more British. My boyfriend is British and he said to me than my English is good but I sound so Spanish 😂...and some english people can not understand me because of my accent
The pronunciation between the examples and her normal speech is completely different. In normal speech it's like a triple-diphthong, something like a particularly slurred and rapid, 'oiyu'. The closest I feel I can get with IPA is 'ɶiœ'.
hi Lucy, you're fine teaching us English, make your videos so funny, for me the English has become part of my life, very useful when i have to make an conversation with someone from other country, on you i wanna know, how much changed your life being youtuber? a big hug from Chile
Good video! i have no problem with this sound (/əʊ/) but it was good to make it better! (my problem is with the "TH" sound cause it doesn't exist in PT! thank you for this video Ms Lucy! can't wait to the next one to come! take care

I hope you read my comment. The sound you are speaking of is an O (of) and U (rude): OU And it's defenetivly not a closed A (bath) Actualy your cosed A can be hear on the word: public - (pablic) That's an A. The oh, no, go is OU
this pronunciation videos must continue it is very useful . I like the British accent and study your lessons .thank you so much. waiting your new pronunciation video...
replacing əʊ for ɔː or ɒ is also possible and is yet considered british english! but this one is an accent spoken in northern states of england and scotland. I am not sure if you can say ɒ intead of əʊ in every single word that has the latter sound. I reckon, though I am not sure, that you can do that only in certain words like: No, video, so etc. Just a fact, because in my opinion saying, for instance, 'vɪdiɒ' instead of 'ˈvɪdiəʊ' is totally acceptable, and I personally like to alternate between both accents in my speech. it is fun and cooler.
This lesson helped, but confused more at the same time. My cousins are British and I have tried to mimic the way they pronounce NO for years and always failed miserably.
