    The top of the mountain could be missing. I mean, think of the Two Dragons creation story. The top of the mountain might lead to Jazirian's vision of the world, but as long as Ahriman's around, she can't actualise it, so it's in a state of "Coming Soon, to a Mountain Near You". Souls that reach it might act as a vote/pressure towards Benevolent Order; and becoming part of the plane might be literal. As in, you form another miniscule step that the plane takes towards that vision with your essence.
    Or, from a more Grimdark perspective, the place might be a trap of a being whose idea of a perfect meal is a very discipined, wise, nice person. So the 6 heavens are the seasoning, and the 7th is the plate:P

      Well, Ahriman/Asmodeus promotes atheism only to consume the souls of the atheists in the trap door under the 9th layer of hell, so I really wouldn't be surprised it's something similar. But then again, considering how difficult it is to get to the peak and how few reach it, it seems extremely inefficient and doomed to failure in light of Ahriman's equivalent approach.

    AJ Pickett has an interesting theory on what's at the top of the 7th layer of Celestia, which would be a gateway out of this reality. Much like the Obyrith came into D&D's universe from their own dying universe, this would be the last bastion to save the remnants of this reality when it is eventually and inevitably destroyed by the spreading destructive entropy of Demons and/or Negative Energy. The emergency escape route, so to speak, which would explain why it is so well guarded and secretive. You really wouldn't want that type of knowledge to fall in the wrong hands, which could doom a whole other universe (i.e. mind flayers, to name just one example). In this regard, Zaphkiel might be the guardian of this final solution and maybe the only one to know the key to its destruction to make sure only the worthy leave this reality in its ultimate moments.

It's a shame that's kind of been lost, and isn't specified in 5e, even a brief description and what pantheons live on which layer. Perhaps they could even leave the last layer blank for the DM to describe and write, making each journey up the mountain unique. No disrespect to Descent into Avernus, but I think it's cooler to have a layer-scaling journey across a plane than having an entire campaign set on just one layer of Hell.

    I get the impression that Celestia is the most dimensionally complex of the Outer Planes. Bahamut's Palace is a perfect example: somehow it is simultaneously in multiple different mountains, while also being a physical place that wanders the Plane. The way the Dwarven pantheon melds with Celestia is also very unique. So yeah, while far from a lore expert, Celestia seems very complex on a dimensional level. Fascinating.

  • @MrKoutsuko
    @MrKoutsuko 2 года назад +31

    One really interesting concept that may apply to Bahamut's pallace is the 4rth dimension projection.
    I'm sure that if they knew more about this when the whole Mount Celetia was created, that would be the case for the whole thing.
    You see, the montais climbing is an elightment path, not a psysical one, only ocne you have enough enlightment you are able to see, walk and have a projection in the higher levels, wich would mean that they all inhabit the same space, the only thing you are doing is opening new sensorial doors that would allow you to see beyond a veil in a new dimension, and once you are worthy to open this new door in yourself, you are also worthy to walk in that ground.
    its like 2d to 3d, every 3d object may have a 2d projection that doesn't make sense, but you can't peek the 3rd dimension, you can only understand it's projection in your's dimention
    Yeah, sounds like those DMT elves stuff, but its something to think about. Bahamut might appear in every level because his sole existence is engraved in the concept of each reality/dimention/level. There's a lot of ground to explore in this point of view, you could also apply this to the feywild and shadowfell if you wanted, or even to every healm of existence, and exploring how each aspect of each plane projects in the other planes, exploring it more in a comprehension sense than doing it in a material mundane way.

    I like to imagine that once you reach the seventh heaven you find yourself once again on the first mountain. All of the effort, turmoil, and sacrifice you have gone through replaying in your mind as you stare up at the glowing peak you had worked so hard to reach.
    That’s when enlightenment comes. Self purification is a task that will never reach completion. True enlightenment is the understanding that perfection cannot be earned or achieved. And so with this revelation you turn towards the glowing peak and ready yourself to ascend the mountains in search of enlightenment.
    This is why the gods cannot enter the seventh heaven. Such a mortal revelation is foreign to them in so much that they are incapable of crossing such a boundary.
    There is no seventh heaven only the beginning of your journey to the seventh heaven and the enlightenment it brings.

    • @SapSapirot
      @SapSapirot 2 года назад

      Its a good idea, and indeed what those who have lived contemplative lives (Im mostly familiar with Buddhist and hindus) report is close to what you say, but with a tiny but very important distinction. Perfection cannot be earned - but that is because everything is completely perfect already, always was and always will be. I like to think of Celestia as a mix of monotheistic and polytheistic thinking. The gods of the multiverse, indeed most all things are reflections or creations of a true "oneness" as MrRhexx describes. Philosophically speaking, if you rejoin the source from which all things sprang, then technically, there is no "returning" to do, as you are already identified with ALL of reality. This is why the individual gods cannot (or I think more plausibly, will not) climb to the final layer. Because they are ultimately reflections on the water of the true immaculate conception. The eternal oneness at the very peak of existence from which all things are shadows cast on the water, and to which everything returns.

      The vast majority of the inhabitants of Mount Celestia are the archons, they probably make up like 80% of the plane. Archons strive to climb the mountain, and make it their life's goal to do that. Not every archon gets to climb, some give up, others simply require a lot of time. Even if 80% of those are archons with a goal in mind, that still leaves millions of creature that decide to relax in those towns. Also consider that you only become an archon if you either don't venerate a specific god but are lawful good, or if you specifically venerate a human god. There are many other creatures that come here but don't get to become archons, like halflings and dwarves, and presumably many other races from a multitude of other planets in the multiverse. Heck, the only plane I wouldn't choose over Mount Celestia are Mechanus and the Lower Planes. The concept of Mount Celestia does not sound particularly "good" to me. Like, I get it's idea, and some of the paths actually make sense, (like the one where you must do good deeds and not flex to anyone about them, it really embodies the concept of Lawful Goodness and kind of Neutral Goodness as well), but some of them are just straight up cruel. Like, what was it, the path of silence, where the entire process was supposed to suck for you? Who on Earth would willingly take that path, and how is that supposed to be "Good" in any way or form??? Like, that just sounds like Batoor, lmao: They also make you suffer if you want to advance. And again, I get the idea that you must be able to sacrifice something important to you in order to advance, but purposefully making someone's journey to enlightment to be as agonizing as possible does not sound "Good" to me. It just dosen't. The whole plane just sounds hypocritical, if I'm being honest. But maybe that's just because in real life, I'm more of a Chaotic Neutral with Chaotic Good tendencies, (or Lawful Evil tendencies, if I'm interacting with someone I hate), and just cannot grasb the concept of how Law and Good can logically combine together. So yeah, my goal in D&D would be to abandon my Chaotic Neutral attitude and fully convert to Chaotic Good so I can reach Arborea, and I would hyperofcus to NOT be Lawful Good in *any* way or form, just so I don't even accidentally end up in Mount Celestia XD
      Sorry that I'm 4 months late to this comment, btw, but I *really* wanted to say this. I *love* talking about the Planes of D&D, their lore is just so well thought out of and they're all super interesting and unique. This series was fascinating to watch, and really helped me design Planes for my own campaings. I certainly am going to remove some things from Celestia's offical lore, though, to make it seem more like an actual "good" plane instead of just a purgatory disguised as a paradise, lol.

      @cobblegen1204 Год назад

      @@terraristit3752 Planescape fascinated me when I first started watching D&D lore videos. While most of the planes that receive attentions are planes of evil (likely for campaign conflict reasons), I still think the upper planes have a lot of potential to them. When I imagine which plane I would most like to visit, I first tend to consider which planes I would be least likely to die in first. After that, I just look at the vibes of the plane. If we're talking about just living on the plane, then I would probably exclude both Arcadia and Yssguard, since the former would have me arrested for stepping on the wrong blade of grass, and the latter would violate my no brutal death clause. I generally prefer planes more as they get closer to Elysium, so I would weight Celestia and Arboria about the same. Celestia, while it has the darker side of an occasionally cruel self-improvement process, has a lot of beautiful scenery and in many cases, just a relaxing atmosphere. In this way, travelers might actually be better off as lawful good visitors than a petitioners. Arboria just sounds fun, with lots of natural fruit just growing in random places, and nature itself is just bigger and grander. Since I love walking through forests and taking in the greenery, it just sounds lovely. The only problem I see are the torrential storms that rack the plane at completely unpredictable intervals, but I guess if Celestia gets the pushy self-perfection crowd, Arboria needed some drawback to balance. Bytopia, sounds like a perfect place to settle down, with its abundant natural resources and high artisan population. It is a place where labor is always rewarded, so you know your hard work will not go to waste. The Beastlands is hardly a plane meant for humans, but settlement there isn't impossible. There, everything feels more alive, and it has even denser greenery than even Arboria, so I would probably love it, even if just for a visit. Finally, we get to Elysium. Elysium is pretty much perfect to me. Just being there is comforting, and for good aligned beings, not just neutral good, pleasant sensory experiences are heightened. Healing accelerates, past traumas are soothed, and the plane-as it serves as a meeting ground between lawful and chaotic planes-is host to a diverse array of unique planar beings and cultures you could spend lifetimes exploring. While I don't like calling myself neutral good, I like to imagine indiscriminate compassion as an ideal moral goal, so I like the virtues that sustain Elysium. Evil isn't tolerated, yet none of the social factors that compel people to hurt each other are really present here. Since planes are infinite, you could explore the vivid forests, and never grow tired of the same places. If you feel like endless peace is boring, they even have an entire layer dedicated to harsh weather and rapid winds just for such people. The only downside I can see is that it becomes emotionally impossible for a good creature to leave if they stay for too long, so I would not visit this place until I was ready to stay, perhaps even after asking a few friends to come with me.
      And that was my unnecessarily long rant about the upper planes.

      Demons would probably have an impossible time climbing up the mountain, they might not be able to do it. They wouldn't have to do. The fight between Law & Chaos makes it so that if one side is dominating the other, then the universe's rules start shifting to that of the winning side. So if the demons are owning that much, the mountain would start becoming more and more chaotic. Presumably up to the point where they could climb it. But the demons would have to be dominating really hard on most parts of the multiverse for this to happen and even still, the mountain might not be destroyed completely.

But of course flying humanoids would not do it that way so I was originally thinking that the cavern would be for subterranean humanoids but think of the challenge you would be for aerial humanoids

    At each stage of enlightenment people give up a greater part of their identity for a principle. AKA: "Enlighten" themselves by shedding that which holds them back.
    At the top, they simply give up their identities to _be_ joy. That's why even gods can't tread up there and return, because they give up "being" a god to "be" joy.

    It's probably the Coatle god's real body, at the peak, like their counterpart, cringing and recovering from butt-hurt at being rejected by the other in their own right.
    Get back together and quit shunning Earth-realm for sixth edition you snakey bastards! XD

    Lord AO rules Celestia's 7th layer. He is ruled over by a divine and all powerful creature called the DM. It is said that the DM thinks reality into existence.

    My guess? When you reach the peak of the final mountain, you're greeted by a simple message: "Congratulations! You've been promoted to player!" You then wake up in our world.

    You mentione only one person made it to the seventh layer (top) how do we know they are male (used the he pronoun) was that explicitly stated.
    Perhaps my Christianity speaking but when I think of God I think of neither male nor female, yes we use the male pronoun but that's most because of its archaic background as a universal male, and patriarchy. Just curious.

    Halfway through this video. This world is almost a direct ripoff of Middle Earth. I know it is the fantasy root world... But this all looks and is explained like Middle Earth. Lol.

    "you can find some of the best craftsmanship at surprisingly low prices"
    "cloth is very rare, selling 5x its original price"
    Sounds like it's speculation time

    The top of the mountain leads to the bottom layer of the abyss. No one has come back because they’re annihilated by what lies at the bottom. That which must otherwise climb through infinity to escape. Everything we have been told about the seventh Heaven is a falsehood.

    In 2nd edition there was a solar who made it to the 7th heaven and was sent back. He gives you a quest. Once complete he returns to the 7th Heaven.

    The more I listen, the more this is obviously a 1 to 1 rip off of the second part of The Divine Comedy, Purgatorio, but not even a mention of blatant source material? Ok.
